I cannot stress enough how much I love The Good Place.
The PRI’s power was only fully destroyed in the 2018 elections after a century of dominance that’s been weakened in recent decades, corruption is endemic, and freedom of press is threatened by both government and organized crime. It’s a democracy, but still a relatively weak one in terms of institutions.
More excerpts from my texts with my art school friend
A number of state governments in the US (North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Ohio, Kansas, etc.) don’t qualify as democratic governments, and frankly rank closer to the political semi-democratic systems of Western Africa or Central America. It’s not just that they aren’t as democratic as the UK or Japan, it’s that they’re less democratic than Mexico or Ukraine.
Charlotte’s Amtrak station is really badly in need of an upgrade for both the infrastructure and the facility, but it certainly has a Christian preacher playing on TV right next to one of the countless security cameras, which is a beautiful summation of the North Carolina state government
50 years ago today, Deputy Chairman of the Black Panther Party Fred Hampton was assassinated by the US government. He was 21.

“Everything in the world–whether it’s a secret airplane or secret satellite–has to intersect the visible world at some point,” says Paglen. “With photographing the invisible, it’s about identifying where those boundaries and intersections may be.” Taking photographs of covert government institutions like the NSA and military bases may be Paglen’s way of highlighting that democracy is abstract, while invisible privacy invasion and mysterious organizations are concrete. Through exhausting research and patience (taking a photograph from many miles away is no easy task), Paglen finds those boundaries and intersections and makes them… beautiful. Or, at least, he makes extremely abstract concepts more digestible. His long-distance, blurry photos of secret military bases have been compared to impressionistic paintings.

“This photograph depicts a classified “listening station”deep in the forests of West Virginia. The station is located at the center of the “National Radio Quiet Zone,” a region of approximately 34,000 square kilometres in West Virginia and parts of Maryland. Within the Quiet Zone, radio transmissions are severely restricted: omnidirectional and high-powered transmissions (such as wireless internet devices and FM radio stations) are not permitted.
The listening station, which forms part of the global ECHELON system, was designed in part to take advantage of a phenomenon called “moonbounce.” Moonbounce involves capturing communications and telemetry signals from around the world as they escape into space, hit the moon, and are reflected back towards Earth.
The photograph is a long exposure under the full moon light.”
I’m Erin, the infamous e-beggar (™), my family needs at least $10 dollars for food and $20 dollars for my sisters’ medicines which help her anxiety, paranoia, and her severe anger issues. I know this is annoying as fuck and everyone is tired of seeing these but, I am working on something that’ll lead to a positive change for us, that’ll take time though and we need badly need help now. We are out of food and money, I wish to ease my moms’ heart break that she can’t provide for all of us. Thanks to y’all we have done so much and I’m sorry to ask for this. My caseworker helped me apply for SSI which I am waiting for. I am just waiting to hear back on it and that takes some time. If you want to donate, be it 1 cent or 5 cent, no amount is too small, it would be greatly appreciated and go towards food, necessities, or bills. I will repay anyone who donates in any way. Reblogs are helpful. Nobody has to donate if they don’t want to or can’t, times are hard on everyone. No one should feel guilty. I love y’all. Please don’t send hate, I will block you. I will give more proof if you message me.
I’m going to get questioned about my friendship with Alice at a congressional hearing one day, and unlike Stephen Miller I’m actually going to get in trouble for affiliating with radicals, even though mine are the cool and good ones
My main goal, is to get verified on Twitter, and then act like I don’t know nobody [maniacal laughter]
Now that the intern period of my life is officially over I’d like to say that my experience these last few years has turned me from begrudgingly accepting of unpaid internships to a firm believer in banning them
After 18 months of searching, three internships, and over 120 applications, I’m happy to say that today I received and accepted a job offer in left-wing economic policy. We are popping the largest possible bottles tonight
Kamala Harris is dropping out
my car has broken down over and over and over again. I was sexually assaulted by manager and FORCED to wear a mini skirt. after that ordeal, I returned to a restaurant where my kind-of ex girlfriend is my manager and she holds a GRUDGE; I been fighting to get back to school (utd) for TWO FUCKING YEARS and my fingers are fucking crossed that every next email is them telling me, “come home”.
I have starved. I have taken what little money I have and given it to my daughter, Lilliana. those of you who have played Dragon Age will recognize it. here’s Lilli.
this is my angel. this is my drive, my ambition, my love.
and I receive death threats every day for her.
my fiance and I found a place (albeit temporarily) thanks to y’all’s help, but now our car has completely shit the bed and we are fucked.
basically, my daughter, my fiance and I are all asking for the help of those available to provide it. please do not give anything if you are in a needier position that I - I know I’l always find a way upward and outward.
If you are willing and able to donate, please do so at email@example.com on paypal, or feel free to cash app $eattherichh or venmo, which was neoliberalismkills. Thank you all. I would write more but I’m so exhausted and there’s so much I have to do to pull my life togther.
- Just wanted to make it first why I was leaving btw. I love this site and I have a hard time leaving it but I’m just going to delete the app for a while because seeing people threaten my daughter, who isn’t two years old yet, kills. The number of messages trying to force me to get an abortion are unbearable. I can’t deal with this stress while I build a life and I ask that you add to that foundation we’re building.
I just woke up with my account $100 in the negative, no way to get to and from work, and no way to buy food today. Please help.
Well, that’s it, folks. We no longer have a vehicle. The tire quite literally fell off in an Albertsons parking lot and we had to sell it for $165 to a junker. When it rains, it pours shit. You already know that I’m about to ask for more help, but I need it so desperately. I live so far from work that there is literally no way for me to get to my job without a vehicle. And that vehicle guarantees I have a place to sleep no matter what. Please help my family. Please help us continue to survive until it gets table. Everything is falling apart but I have hope that everything is going to be okay. Everything will be okay.
My theory is that the effect the internet has had on political education has been similar to the effect that the Protestant reformation originally had on Christian theology when it weakened the Vatican’s monopoly authority: it democratized the spread of knowledge and allowed for the exploration of new ideas to the great benefit of millions, but also eventually enabled the emergence of countless charlatans with absolutely insane ideas to present themselves as the new truth-givers and acquire power accordingly
Bold words from one of the internet charlatans in question
Implying that you are not a charlatan too

Of movies I’ve seen, I’d recommend:
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Alien, Aliens, American Psycho, Carrie, House (ハウス), Gerald’s Game, It Follows, Jennifer’s Body, Raw, Repulsion, The Slumber Party Massacre, Stoker, Under the Shadow, Under the Skin, The Untamed, and You’re Next
The Silence of the Lambs is also an entry, of course, but is distorted by its transmisogyny.
A case could be made for lots of other horror films being feminist, but I’m sticking to the more straightforward ones here.
Revenge (2018) strikes me as similar to The Love Witch (2016) in that it’s designed to be a feminist inversion of horror tropes that ultimately just utilizes those exact tropes in a slightly modified way which doesn’t ever actually subvert them or get to the core of why they’re misogynistic.
