This is the primary reason movies and TV are getting worse and worse and worse and worse and worse and worse and worse. two responses to that. one, no one complains about “responsible car drivers” at the DMV. we have drivers licenses for a reason: to keep people safe. so if you’re a good, safe driver, you have no problem taking the test. and if you’re a safe, responsible gun owner, you should have no problem jumping through a few hoops to make sure the bad guys can’t get guns as easily.

and two, fuck your rights. your right to own a gun is NOT as important as my right not to be shot by one. kids are being shot in schools. innocent people are murdered in the grocery store. so i don’t give a shit about your gun rights. your rights are killing people.

so, yeah. and if you want to explain to me why gun control won’t work in America even though it works in dozens of other countries, feel fucking free.

A gun is a tool. Outlawing better guns doesn’t take them out of the hands of criminals it takes them out of the hands of law abiding citizens which is why inner cities with gun control are hotbeds of violent crime.

That said my rights are not for sale on some contingent your assumption that I have to justify them by some ignominious definition of ‘need’. 

As you have a right to self defense, the government has NO RIGHT to infringe upon your right to self defense by way of hindering your access to the tools of self defense. 

Waving a magic wand and erasing guns from the face of the earth would erase with them the equalizing effect they had in giving the weak a fighting chance against the strong. Women most especially would become soft targets of violent crime.

Stop thinking of rights as something you either need or lose. Stop asking people to justify their natural rights to you. I promise, this isn’t a road you want to go down.

Honestly, just flip it back on them.

“Why do you need free speech?”

“Why do you need a right to privacy?”

“Why do you need to not be a slave?”

And really dig in on the idea of “need”. Nobody NEEDS to be free of slavery, after all, you’re still alive and provided for, right?
