one of my favorite tropes is when a character is talking in the foreground and something happens in the background that directly contradicts what they’re saying
foreground: character is talking about how they pride themselves on being a good parent
background: character’s 3 year old son starts a car and speeds off
i’m just saying, when i die in mysterious and unexplained circumstances i want you all to make sure that everybody knows it. instead of saying how i was “a friend to everyone” and that i “lit up a room” when i entered it i want people to shake their heads while muttering that i “asked too many questions for my own good” and talk about how they “warned me that i was getting in way over my head” and that i “always had a knack for finding trouble” wherever i went. if you don’t make me a local urban legend you’ve failed me.
listen. i dont give a shit about america in any shape or form but if you people let trump win again cause you will back no one unless jesus himself comes down from heaven and runs as democrat i will Fucking sue each of you for every singe “haha orange man” joke i get forced to see for another four fucking years
NOPE. fuck all of this. I’m not helping *any* racist, anti-woman man become president. sisters, do not let these clowns tell you that if you do not throw your support behind these awful men that you are to blame for trump’s america. sisters, you are not at fault for the imperialist political circus. it’s not your fault. I support you if you do not want to vote.
hes running concentration camps you stupid fucking sister vote sanders or get decked in your sister face
rather un-shockingly, given her weird-ass “sisters” shit, @thousandxarrows up there is a TERF.
In the American system, you are not voting for a candidate. You are voting for an outcome.
No matter who runs as what, there are only two possible outcomes:
- Donald Trump remains President.
- The Democratic nominee, whoever it is, becomes President.
That’s it. Those are the only possible results. It is not possible for a third party candidate to win. It is not possible to completely rebuild our electoral system before the 2020 elections. One of those two things is going to happen.
If you vote for anyone other than Trump or the Democratic nominee, or if you choose not to vote at all, you are saying you don’t care which of those outcomes happen and you will gladly let everyone else decide for you.
This is literally how he got into power. When Trump got the nomination, the more moderate Republican voters said “well, I don’t like him, but he’s still better than a Democrat” and voted for him anyway. I know this because my parents are (or were in 2016) those moderate Republicans. And the fact that so many leftists won’t do that with the Democratic candidate is why he eked out victory. (Yes, I know Clinton won the popular vote – but a bigger turnout in the right places can make up for EC bullshit.)
It’s not about the person. It should be, but it’s not. It’s about which party has a majority and the Presidency, because the party with control makes the rules. And to proclaim in 2019 that both parties are equal evils is privileged horseshit.
Also, fuck terfs.
THIS. Both the excellent lesson and fuck terfs.
Excellent commentary AND ALSO please be aware that pretending to be a leftist of some stripe and encouraging people not to vote because the Democratic nominee is insufficiently leftist or whatever IS A TECHNIQUE DELIBERATELY USED BY THE RIGHT TO DEPRESS THE VOTER TURNOUT OF THEIR OPPONENTS.
If you do not want Trump to win you have to vote for the Democratic nominee in the next presidential election. That is literally your only option given the realities in play. You don’t have to like them. In fact you should feel free to let them know how they can be better. But you DO have to VOTE THEM IN. It’s like in a board game when you put your piece in a less than optimal spot to block your opponent from just winning on the next move.
Not voting is Not. An. Option. This election cycle. Feel free to harbor whatever reservations you have about whatever candidates you want, but when the time comes to cast a ballot, suck it up! Vote conscience in the primaries, reality in the election. Lives are VERY LITERALLY at stake.
And if any of you dinguses do the whole “I didn’t vote because it didn’t matter”/“I wrote in my fave because I’m mad they didn’t win the primary”/“I voted third party because I think we shouldn’t have a two party system”/“I wrote someone in as a joke”, get ready to catch some hands.
I saw that! Sometimes even the people we’d like to believe would fight for justice end up on the wrong side of history.
I wonder how many stranger’s stories we make it into? You know, maybe someone saw you in passing and told their friends about how pretty the girl in the lavender sweater was. Or maybe they overheard you say a joke and repeated it to their friend, confessing that they heard it from some guy at the store.
I think about this all the time
