And even the acts made from love and purehearted, such as bringing Aithusa to the world, he gave Mordred and Morgana the ultimate sword, forged in a Dragon breath, which would sealed Arthur’s fate.
So he did, in fact, gave them a hand.

#i think i mentioned something about merlin’s reason to save arthur changing over time #like first he did it because of his destiny and then because arthur was a good man #but in s3 you can see there’s something else #and in s4 he was ready to do anything to ensure arthur’s well being #that scene in 5x13 tho #arthur knows why merlin protected him (before he had magic) but with the reveal he isn’t sure if merlin is the merlin he knew #which is why he is surprised that merlin wasn’t faking being clumsy or ‘an idiot’ #and when merlin says he didn’t save arthur for credit #and just /looks/ at arthur like ‘you know why i do it clotpole’ #arthur just #there’s something gentle and vulnerable in the way he looks at merlin after he says that #idk if it was intentional but 5x13 was a declaration of love #merlin made sure to tell arthur he loved him in every convo #and when arthur wasn’t left speechless he did his best to tell merlin those feelings were mutual
