A lump forms in the blonde’s throat as Dwight is dismissed, as much as she DISLIKES the savior – she’d rather someone else around so she wasn’t alone with Negan. It feels like her heart is going to leap out of her chest as her gaze lands upon the leader, seated very still, it was very unlike him. Beth half expected him to be standing with Lucille resting on his shoulder, theatrically expressing what a TERRIBLE thing she had done. Him being still though? This was worse.
Boots shuffled toward the couch as he requestedDEMANDED her to presence closer to him. The blonde took a seat on the opposite end of the couch from him, as if putting distance between them would keep her SAFE. She avoided his gaze, cheeks red in embarrassment and shame from what she had done. ❝There’s this little boy here, Connor, he’s got asthma – his father couldn’t afford a new inhaler and I didn’t have enough points for it…❞ Beth began to say, but it wouldn’t forgive her actions – she STOLE. ❝I hear him wheezin’ every night, I jus’, I couldn’t take it anymore.❞ Blue eyes on the verge of tears as she looked down to her folded hands in her lap.
A surprised expression graces her features though she does her best to hide it. She’s relieved that Rick saw where she was coming from and didn’t just try to DISMISS her. The blonde offered him a nod as he mentioned a run with him and Daryl tomorrow, that would be the PERFECT time to prove what exactly she was capable of. She wasn’t dumb, she knew this was a test to see how she could handle herself outside of these walls. It’d be good for both of them to see how capable she was, it was Daryl afterall who had taught her so much.
❝Thank you.❞ She said, baby blue hues meeting his gaze. Beth sincerely meant that, it would have been so easy for Rick to feed her some BULLSHIT about needing her to take care of Judith. ❝You’ll see jus’ how far I’ve come.❞ She said, a small smile tugging on her lips. She yearned to make Rick proud, she didn’t know what it was but she wanted him to see the CHANGE in her.
hands come down from behind her head, shoving the ginger strands off her shoulders. it was a gesture of distance, somehow. or at least, for the cogitation of it. beth’s words made her think. the answer was torn in two, unprecise. just like agnes had always found sentiments to turn out, just inbetween the stools, torn between good and evil, the angel and the devil. on the blurred line. or over it. at first, uncertaincy of whether words were meant ❝ funny thing is, rick asked me the same thing yesterday. ❞
what followed next was unusually sentimental for her, as one would say, completely out of character. but it was simply how agnes was able to rest in beth’s presence. there was no need to fight and agnes was aware of that. ❝ i’m here because i want to be here. everywhere i was before, i was needed. and here i just exist, you know? i am not good with that. not knowing what to do. that’s why i constantly switch. ❞ gazes flicker as they search for her opposite’s in something agnes didn’t even know she searched for, reassurance. ❝ in hopes that i get my own group. but we see how that ended. and now i’m here in your peaceful garden of eden, no offense. ❞ there is a chuckle that seemingly excuses words though there is barely the need to. ❝ i don’t know how you do it. letting them control you without the itch of violence. ❞
Beth wasn’t at all surprised Rick asked Agnes the same thing, she’d be a great asset to the community. Maybe all she needed was a gentle to push to stay, even if it was for SLIGHTLY selfish reasons on Beth’s part. Beth wanted a roommate and she had gotten along quite nicely with Agnes. One of the houses wouldn’t seem so large if she had a friend living with her. It was NICE to have Agnes around. It wouldn’t be easy to convince her to stay though, she knew the brunette was a nomad through and through. Maybe having a room of her own to come back to would be enough for her. Having a sense of PEACE in this chaotic world in four walls and a roof.
Baby blue hues flicker up to meet Agnes’ gaze as she SOFTENS up slightly. Seeing a soft side to her was rare and Beth wanted to make sure not to let this moment slip away. ❝I get it, we jus’ really like havin’ you here, even JUDITH asks where Aggie is when you’re gone.❞ The blonde said, a small smile creeping on her lips. ❝They don’t control me–they’re my family, I’ve been with ‘em since the beginning, they’ve saved my life more times than I care to count.❞ She admitted with a soft sigh. ❝’s nice to know that they’ll always have my back, and no matter where you are, I’ve ALWAYS got yours.❞ Beth said, wanting Agnes to know that she had someone in her corner.
#( v. i made it ) #unsnare #I LOVE THIS DYNAMIC SO MUCH TOO
❝Because I’m not the same girl from back at the farm. I’ve been through hell and back, RICK!❞ She said, her voice raised due to frustration. The blonde was tired of being treated like a glorified babysitter, she was capable of doing more than just looking after Judith. Don’t get her wrong, she loved that little girl more than ANYTHING but she wanted additional responsibilities. Maggie was treated like an equal in the group, that’s what she wanted, she just wanted to be equal. She felt like she was in limbo between being a kid and being an adult and she was SICK of it.
Beth scrubbed a hand over her face as she did her best to CALM down, fingertips brushing over one of her scars reminding her how strong she really was. ❝I jus’ want you to treat me like an adult, I made it this far, that’s gotta count for somethin’ ❞
The blonde had never STOLEN anything in her life, not even a tube of mascara before the world fell apart. She was desperate though, when she first arrived at the Sanctuary she had met a little boy, couldn’t be older than nine that struggled with ASTHMA. His father was in too deep with negative points as his job wasn’t paying enough and he couldn’t afford a new inhaler. Beth being new, she barely had enough points to cover food let alone a costly medical item. She used her new job as an assistant to the doctor to swipe an inhaler, it was wrong, she KNEW that, but she couldn’t stop thinking about the little boy, Connor struggling to breathe. What she wasn’t counting on was the doctor doing inventory and telling Dwight on her.
Now she was following closely behind Dwight being lead to Negan. The hallway seemed to stretch on FOREVER before finally landing on the last door on the left, Dwight shoving it open. ❝Caught Beth here stealing from the medical supplies.❞ Dwight said before grabbing her by the arm and pushing her forward and closer to Negan. Baby blue hues wide as they landed on the leather clad man, he was a whole lot SCARIER up close. ❝’m sorry, I swear it won’t happen again–❞ The blonde began to ramble, fidgeting with her hands, a nervous habit of hers.
The blonde was unsure exactly where she fit into Alexandria, when she arrived at the safe zone everyone seemed to be settled into their homes and had their sub groups and they were happy. Beth was currently crashing at Rick and Michonne’s but she felt out of place in their home. She slept in Judith’s room but didn’t yet have a room or home of her own. The problem was she didn’t want a big ol’ house to herself, she would feel a whole lot better having someone else to live with.
Baby blue hues flickered to Agnes who sat across the table from her, Agnes seemed to be a nomad–not setting down definitive roots anywhere and maybe she could be persuaded to set roots down in Alexandria. ❝You ever get tired of goin’ back and forth from place to place?❞ Beth asked her curiously.
#verse [ I made it -- alexandria ] #i hope this is ok?? #lemme know I can give ya something different if you like :) #unsnare
All that time at Grady, all Beth could think about was getting back with her group–her family. She thought that once she found her way back to them that things would be different, that things would be better. The first few days back were great, she felt like she was home, Alexandria felt like a dream–something she had wished for since they lost the farm. Now that she was settled in she felt different, she wasn’t the same girl she was before Grady, she had blood on her hands.
Two people, she had killed two people at Grady and tried to justify it as a way of surviving. Those two people haunted her nightmares every single night, would it always be like this? Would she always see their faces every time she shut her eyes? At least right now she had a distraction, Judith babbling away in gibberish while coloring on some scratch paper. Baby blue hues flickered up to Rick who seemed focused on a map. While she didn’t want to interrupt she needed advice, she needed guidance and she trusted Rick.
❝Rick?❞ She asked, her voice soft as she looked up from the paper she was doodling on herself. ❝Does it ever get easier? Killin’ people I mean–❞ She began to say, knowing Rick had killed probably more people than he would care to remember. She needed to know, she needed to know if these two people would haunt her forever.

His eyes fell shut and a fond smile pulled at the ends of his lips whenever Beth made the comment that instantly transported his mind back to the night they spent together, tipsy and emotional and ending it with a blaze of fire. It was a damned good night, all things considered, and even if they were drowning in worry over where the rest of their group could be, and if they were even alive, there was something about those moments from their time alone that felt so simple in comparison to the shit they were tangled in now. So much so that he almost wish they could just go back.
Daryl’s smile quickly fell, however, as she mentioned him being the strongest person that she had ever known, because that then made him think of how terrified he was locked in that cell at the sanctuary. The cowardice he had shown, the absolute vulnerability as he was slowly broken down piece by piece from them. The crying and the terrible thoughts that had run through his mind, the thoughts of how it would be easier if he could just die in that cell rather than facing whatever it was they were putting him through. He wasn’t strong. But he didn’t want to get into that. Not now. Not with the others around. Maybe when they weren’t around but…for now, he simply shook his head at the comment.
“M’just glad m’back with you. And I…. I can’t have you leavin’ my side. Not for now. Please.” He wasn’t one to beg or plead often, but he needed to regather some of his strength - and the only way he could do that was to be with her. Even if they ended up having to separate to different communities eventually that day.
Beth could tell by the look on his face that some serious stuff went down at the sanctuary. She wanted to ask more about it, it wouldn’t be good for him to keep that all inside. Right now wasn’t the right time though, they were out in the open and she knew Daryl wasn’t the type of person to bear his soul out in the open like this. Once they were alone—really alone, she’d talk to him about it.
❝’m not goin’ anywhere, I’ll be like glue—promise.❞ She said, a small smile tugging on her lips. She could hear the desperation in his voice and it only made the sinking in her stomach feel worse, she didn’t think that could be possible.
❝We’re all goin’ to the Kingdom to talk to them to see if they’ll join us in the fight, we need them.❞ She said with a quiet sigh, even with the Kingdom they still wouldn’t have the numbers they needed but it would be a step in the right direction.
❝You can ride with me.❞ She said. Beth was always eager to drive since she didn’t really get a chance to do a lot of it in the old world. The keys to an old Chevy were in her back pocket. Once the group was ready to head to the kingdom Beth walked to the car she had stashed off to the side with a couple other vehicles. Everyone got in their vehicles, Beth and Daryl the last car as they headed to the meetup spot to be escorted to the Kingdom.
They had lost so much. Ever since the fall of the prison, it felt like one loss after another. The group had been scattered between communities, it was what was best for everyone. Beth had been going back and forth from Alexandria and Hilltop, it was hard to be apart from Judith but she needed to be with her sister. Maggie was pregnant and her husband was gone.
After spending a few days back at Alexandria, Beth was back at the Hilltop with Maggie and Enid. Once Maggie was further along she knew she’d have to permanently move in to be there for her sister to help make sure she didn’t push herself too far.
The blonde set down her bag, a frown tugging on her lips as she saw Maggie sitting up at the kitchen table working on some sort of paperwork. She knew the only way she could get her to stop is if she were to say she needed her.
❝’m beat but I don’t want to sleep alone, please.❞ Beth said to her older sister who was about to protest but Beth threw her a famous puppy dog pout. A small smile tugged on her lips as Maggie began to get up and Beth made her way to the pull out couch falling onto her back, a heavy sigh escaping her lips as blue hues darted toward the ceiling.
Once Maggie joined her she wrapped her arms around her, letting herself relax. Her hand rested on her sister’s stomach. ❝Can’t wait to meet him already.❞ Beth said with a small smile as she closed her eyes.
Even once their bodies had pulled apart and they separated from one another, Daryl didn’t take a step back. He couldn’t take a step back. There was no way that he was going to be more than two feet away from Beth at all times - at least for right now in that moment. They had gotten so close, only to have the world try and pull them apart time and time again. But they kept getting back to one another, they kept coming back to each other, and right then he just needed to be close to her.
His hand moved to rest on her waist just to keep her near him, just to feel that she was actually, really, physically there with him and that this wasn’t some kind of falsified hope dream that he would wake up from alone once more.
Daryl sighed at her words, eyes closing at the feeling of her gentle lips pressing against him, and it did indeed comfort him. Being back with his own people was a relief in and of itself, of course. Being back in the safety of community walls and away from the torturous tactics of Negan and his people. But feeling Beth here with him and having her kiss him was the best blanket of comfort he had felt since returning.
“I would die before goin’ back there. And I ain’t ready to die just yet,” he responded with, looking down at her with a small attempt of a smile, no matter how broken it still appeared.
“Thought of you. The whole time,” he admitted, tears hitting his eyes once more. “Don’t think I woulda’ made it outta there if I didn’t have you to think of. You’re what got me through, Beth.”
The blonde is already bouncing off ideas in her head about where Daryl could go where he could be safe. Of course, Alexandria was out of the question, that’d be the first place the Saviors would come looking. Right now, the only place that made sense would be The Kingdom since the Saviors didn’t go inside their walls. She hated the thought of him not at home with her but she couldn’t be selfish.
Beth leaned in to his touch, enjoying the feeling of him being close to her. She didn’t know when she would see him again after today and the thought of that made her heart ache. Maybe—maybe she could stay with him wherever he landed? She didn’t want him to be alone. She didn’t want to be alone.
❝Last one standin’, remember?❞ She asked with a sad smile as she thought back to when she had said that, drunk on moonshine—the first time she really got Daryl to open up to her.
Her lower lip quivered slightly as he said he had thought of her the whole time, that she got him through everything. She quickly wiped at her own tears threatening with the palm of her hand, letting out a shaky breath.
❝You’re the strongest person I know, that I’ve ever known.❞ She said softly, bringing up her fingertips to gently wipe at his tears. ❝’m glad I could be there for you, I thought ‘bout you every hour, every second—❞ She began to say, her voice cracking slightly.
#( v. i made it ) #damneddixon #they are so cute i can't
Trees peeled past, all blurring together. The road grated under their tires, then turned smooth. Daryl’s focus kept slipping to the road behind him. To his hands, bloody on the wheel. It was nothing new, blood on his hands, but the crack of skull crunching wouldn’t stop shuddering through him.
A warm hand on his leg killed the quaking.
Nearly there.
He nodded, slow, and then quicker, blowing out a breath lodged too long in his lungs. Dropped a hand (bloody) from the wheel and pressed it over hers, reassuring.
“Yeah, be there soon.” He was pretty sure, anyway. He didn’t know the roads around Hilltop well, but he’d always picked up landscapes fast. That old oak with the split trunk was about a mile out, if he was remembering right. A mile from safety, and it didn’t look like they were being followed. (Yet.)
He slowed the car to a crawl.
“Right. Negan’s got any kinda sense he’ll know his inventory. Know what car we took, keep an eye out for it.” If they’d been on bikes or something they’d have had half a chance of hiding them, but they couldn’t bring a whole stolen car to Hilltop. Changing plates and ditching it wouldn’t do much good either; the Saviors had been down these roads collecting tribute a hell of a lot more than Daryl had. If he could recognize a tree after one trip, they’d sure as hell notice a whole car that hadn’t been there before.
Instead, he waited ‘til he saw a wide enough opening, then peeled off slow into the forest.
The car rumbled again under their tires. The quake was back in his tired bones. He wheeled past enough trees and underbrush to hide the car from a cursory glance from the road, then pulled to a stop. Best they could manage right now.
“C’mon.” His hand was loathe to leave Beth’s but he managed, squeezing and letting go before climbing out of the car. “S’get you home.”
The hand on hers soothed her, it pushed the thoughts of getting caught aside and made her focus on the task at hand. They would need to hide Daryl in order to keep him safe, she knew how Negan was with people that escaped—they always got dragged back and usually ended up on the fence.
Her face lit up at the mention of home—a place she hadn’t had since the fall of the prison. The blonde quickly scurried out of the car, adrenaline pumping through her veins, making her forget just how exhausted she is.
The woods were quiet, a creepy kind of quiet—not even hearing biters in the distance, it caused a shiver to run down her spine. One last treck and they’d be out of the woods and she’d be with her family and it’d all be worth it. She wondered how long it would be till someone found Joey, probably the next shift change which was sunrise.
Beth followed Daryl’s lead, he knew the woods better than anyone. Blue hues scanned the trees as the two moved quickly through the woods and finally on the other side she saw tall walls—this had to be the Hilltop. One of the guards on duty recognized Daryl and quickly opened up the gates for the two of them.
She didn’t know why but she felt nervous—who had they lost along the way? Who was still here? Her hand instinctively grabbed at Daryl’s hand, finding comfort in him.
❝Sorry—jus’ nervous and excited.❞ She said softly as she walked with him inside the gate.
The feeling of having Beth toss her arms around him into the tightest hug Daryl had ever received was inexplicable. After what felt like ages of torture, both physical and psychological, having the warmth of the one person that he felt like cherished most in this hellish world holding him like this, he finally felt at ease again.
At first he just stayed still and enjoyed the feeling of her curling around him, his arms still at his side as he was engulfed in her warmth. Then, he finally lifted his arms up to place them around her waist and pull her body in impossibly closer, his head dropping down easily to her shoulder and rolling into the crook of her neck. Daryl Dixon was not a crier. He didn’t cry easily - he only allowed himself to do so when he was too overcome with emotions and he could not process it all. Which is exactly why in this moment, his eyes were matching her’s as tears glossed over his eyes and threatened to spill from the corner of his eyes.
When she pulled back, he almost pulled her right back in as he didn’t want this feeling to end, but he allowed it just so they could both get a better look of one another. “M’okay as I can be,” he answered honestly. “How are you? Are you okay?” Despite being the one to just come out of being held captive, he was still more concerned with her safety and well-being than his own. Before she could even answer, he was dropping his head down to her shoulder once more to cling onto her again. “I missed ya, Beth.”
Beth didn’t dare move, just stood in her spot holding him as close as humanly possible. Things had been chaotic ever since Negan took over, it was a whole new world. A world Beth hoped would change for the better now that the core group was back together. They couldn’t keep living like this—with death and destruction around every corner.
That’s why she needed to take advantage of moments of happiness like this one. She brought her hand up to the back of his head, fingertips gently combing through his hair for a few short moments.
Seeing him vulnerable—tears in his eyes, it made her heart sink in her chest. She was overwhelmed with emotions, she thought she didn’t cry anymore. But here she was, barely keeping it together in his arms.
Once the two had separated she instantly missed the feeling of him being close—so scared that he would just get snatched up again. Blue hues scanned over him, frown deepening at each bruise and cut she saw on visible skin.
❝’m okay—no, you’re home—’m good.❞ She answered after he said that he had missed her, and she meant that, now that he was back with them she felt like anything was possible, they could defeat Negan.
❝’m not gonna let him take you back.❞ She whispered softly as she kissed the top of his head, hoping to bring him some comfort.
#( v. i made it ) #omg dont worry #ive missed u!!! welcome back!! #damneddixon
It’s a silly thing to think about, Christmas. Walkers roamed the earth and death and destruction surrounded them but inside the walls of Alexandria—things felt normal. Beth was glad that Judith was going to have her first real Christmas and it would be good for the other kids too. Beth had spent all morning with Judith making paper decorations for Rick’s home, making sure to spread Christmas cheer everywhere.
There was a small misseltoe taped above the doorframe, Beth figured Michonne and Rick would get a kick out of it. Once she’s finished with the makeshift stockings, hanging them on the fireplace she moves to take a step back, a quiet laugh escaping her lips as she looks down at Judy realizing that both of them were covered in glitter.
❝Let’s get ya changed.❞ Beth said, reaching for the little girl’s hand and walking her to her room, Judith insisted she could do it herself so Beth waited in the hall—curious to see if the youngest Grimes would pick out something silly for herself to wear.
Blue hues raised from the floor when she heard the front door opening. A small smile tugging on her lips as she realized it was Daryl. She was about to open her mouth and ask him how his morning was but before she got a chance he was walking over to her like he was on a mission. The next thing she knows is his lips are on hers in a kiss that ended all too quickly for her liking.
Her lips parted slightly one he pulled away, cheeks burning red as a quiet giggle slipped from her lips. Maybe she’d have to get a mistletoe for her own house too…
