For years now I’ve been hearing about how recognizing (insert identity/label) is supposedly going to devastate the LGBTQ community and harm everyone in it on a large scale yet I’ve seen absolutely zero examples of that happening.
Such a large part of therapy depends on having some control over your life! Therapy isn’t just talking to someone and they make everything go away. They give you tools to master your problems! And if you can’t use them, they aren’t of any use. And it’s the same for meds! If they let you be more productive or creative but you have no outlet for that, the end result is the same. If your meds help you see the positives but there are no positives to see, you won’t notice the difference.
Sometimes you get the wrong tools. Sometimes there’s no space to use them. Sometimes the hardware store sucks. Try again with different tools, in different locations, at a new store.
THE SAME GOES FOR MEDICATION!! I tried meds as a teenager and they were powerless to help much due to my living situation being horrible. I thought that meant medication didn’t work for me. Now that I’m out of that situation and trying agajn I can really see a difference.
I don’t know if any of you had the same experience as me, but I tried therapy when I was a teenager living in an abusive household and thought it was a waste of time. Ultimately my biggest problems (dad) were beyond my control and no amount of coping would make them better. Now that I’m an adult with actual control over my life and don’t live with my dad anymore therapy is MUCH more helpful.
If any of you had bad experiences with therapy when you were younger it may be worth it to try again now.
Also if your parents are part of the problem, they likely will be the one picking your therapist. Which means that, like me, you might end up going to a bunch of Christian “counselors” who recommend prayer and reading your Bible, or other unhelpful types. So therapy not working for you as a teen does not mean it won’t ever work for you.
Honestly the funniest and most bizarre Pokemon tcg card I’ve ever seen is the one where it seemed that an aether employee is having a causal conversation w a registeel
Employee: yeah so that’s how I’ve been. How was your weekend?
Registeel: 01000011 01100001 01101110 00100111 01110100 00100000 01100011 01101111 01101101 01110000 01101100 01100001 01101001 01101110 00101110 00100000 01010100 01101111 01101111 01101011 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01101011 01101001 01100100 01110011 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01110000 01100001 01110010 01101011 00100000 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01100111 01101111 01110100 00100000 01101001 01100011 01100101 00100000 01100011 01110010 01100101 01100001 01101101 00100000 01100001 01100110 01110100 01100101 01110010
Employee: oh fun!
i expected a meme but this was so cute ;-;
Misogyny exists, but marginalized men are allowed to point out when women who have privilege over them are weaponizing feminist language against them
Weaponized incompetence exists, but disabled men pointing out that them being disabled doesn’t mean they’re trying to shirk responsibility onto their partners are not wrong
Mansplaining is a thing, but autistic men should not be accused of this when infodumping
Marginalized men aren’t misogynists for talking about these things
On Children and COVID related organ damage.
My sister had viral myocarditis at twelve. She spent most of a year in an ICU. She’s been in and out of hospitals ever since. It changed her life forever and not in a good way.
Do not underestimate heart and organ damage. Vaccinate yourself and your kids. Seriously consider not sending your child anywhere congregate if ze’s too young to vaccinate. Do Not fuck around with this sort of life altering disability if you don’t have to.The four kids from Colorado, Tennessee, Massachusetts and the United Kingdom have a few things in common: namely, they all contracted a mild case of COVID-19 weeks before the onset of their symptoms, and have all now accepted a diagnosis of “long COVID.” …“All of the kids we’ve seen have been high-achieving,” Yonts said. “Straight-A students, prospective Division I athletes, musicians, artists. They went from super high-functioning to not being able to get out of bed.”
I get auditory hallucinations when I start falling asleep (no idea why, I just do). usually it’s mundane, or sometimes very annoying noises that wake me up, most common are mumbled conversation in a Café and the sounds of power tools on a construction site.
but just now instead, as I was trying to fall asleep, I heard a like… old man voice say “I am casting my most powerful Tuna Spells” and honestly my brain might be haunted by a wizard
take 2 of trying to fall asleep, same old man voice said: “I can form conjurations beyond your wildest imaginations” and then Party Rock Anthem started playing so loud I got jump scared
the bastard who won’t let me sleep
No one is “labelled” as transgender. It literally doesn’t happen. Calm down.
Also, if being labelled as the wrong gender is terrifying, as you literally word for word admitted, then how do you think transgender people feel?
Cis People: “Why are trans people so offended by misgendering? It’s really not that big of a deal. They’re overreacting. They’re too sensitive.”
Cis People: “The hypothetical thought that I could have been misgendered is terrifying.”
There were a lot of freshwater mussels on the 2021 US extinction list. They didn’t leave us with haunting recordings of them calling out for a mate they’d never meet, there were no drawings in vivid color. They were extremely important nevertheless and their loss is frustrating too. That’s why stream ecology and mollusks have always fascinated me. They were silent, stalwart little heroes and entire species were lost to pollution.
Yeah, I am bothered by extinct animals. Even this guy. They can’t all be thylacines.
poking the hornets’ nest with this one but the current insistence that not only should teenagers/“minors” not have or read about sex, they should also be shielded from any knowledge or generational exchange about it is a) US-American as fuck b) really weird and against the nature of teenagers and the fact that puberty is a whole thing c) literally proven to be the worst approach to protecting teenagers from abuse and/or pregnancy and STIs
It’s literally the EXACT SAME rhetoric that fundamentalist churches use.
Because if you tell teenagers what’s happening with their own bodies and tell them how to explore that, if they want, in the safest way possible, then they’ll SIN! (Or, you know, they’ll be able to make informed decisions about when and if they want to have sex. And if you tell them it’s normal, it’ll be harder for people to control them by telling them how bad and dirty and shameful they are.)
why the fuck aren’t there decorative dispensers for maxi pads.
they could look like those fancy tissue box covers but function like a tea bag dispenser
I don’t use tampons but a dispenser for those could be like the ones for straws
I have to do everything myself I guess
I still have to sand and finish it but I’m pretty happy with how it came out
I added a finish! I didn’t stain it or paint it because I like how it matches my room.
Also some of yall are telling me to patent this, but why would I do that when I can just as easily post a diagram for free on the internet so anyone could make one if they wanted to :)
*gets my period* :(
*remembers I get to use my box the next few days* :)
This is GENIUS. I love the idea of having cute boxes like this with supplies for guests. Like “no need to furtively dig through my cabinets, there’s no shame here and also you get more time to snoop through my cabinets this way.”
Hmm. I don’t have woodworking tools or skills but I wonder if something could be 3D printed (once the library reopens, that is).
Look, as soon as the library reopens their tech lab I’m printing this.
This is lovely! And it’s a simple enough design that it should be possible to make out of several different materials depending on what you have available.
i don’t know if this needs to be said, but…
if you’re in the lgbtq+ community, you can hate stereotype that goes along with your label all you like, but don’t shit on people who fall under that stereotype
as long as it isn’t actually harmful, they aren’t doing anything wrong. maybe they’re new to the label and like it, maybe it makes them feel comfortable, or maybe it’s just their fucking personality
The never ending loop of silence and erasure of marginalized men goes like this:
1. manhood is talked about only within the context of white cishetero patriarchy, typically by white, cis, and/or hetero women.
2. marginalized men try to speak up and add nuance and awareness to discussions and activism
3. marginalized men are shut down because manhood has become synonymous with oppression
are we pretending that cishet men aren’t synonymous with oppression in the culture they created and perpetuate through domination? and that any other “marginalized man” is marginalized simply for being a man? the “man” part of your identity will never be the one you should cling to in a world where cishet MEN terrorize the rest of us. there’s actually no reason for it other than said man wanting a piece of the action lmfao.
Lol this is a post about how the intersection of manhood and other systems of oppression is a valid and important discussion to have, because you cannot truly liberate all people while ignoring the plights of marginalized men because they are men. Coming from the perspective of a trans man, which I would argue is an inherently marginalized gender. You are doing the exact thing this post is criticizing by synonymizing the very concept of manhood with cishetero patriarchy. They are not the same thing. To say that “cishet men terrorize the rest of us” is to ignore the systems of white supremacy, imperialism, transphobia, and ableism that are enacted by those who may not be cishet men, and only serves the purpose of further perpetuating those systems.
“ the “man” part of your identity will never be the one you should cling to in a world where cishet MEN terrorize the rest of us”
Just say you want trans men to stop identifying as men and go. This is just repackaged ‘gender traitor’ rhetoric.
The man part of my identity *is* what I cling to- because I am a trans man. What, you want me to not cling to the man part and only the trans part? It’s not possible and blatant transandrophobia. I’m a man because I’m trans, I’m trans because I’m a man. Not clinging to my man part of my identity means I can’t exist at all.
I’m also a gay man- not clinging to the man part of my identity renders my orientation impossible to articulate (for me). If I don’t cling to the man part of my ID- as a man who loves other men, then I can’t exist again.
This rhetoric is beyond disgusting and really speaks to that commenter’s desire for queer men to stop existing altogether. We aren’t going anywhere bozo, fuck the fuck off.
[ID: An infographic on Red Flags from Medical Professionals.
1. ‘Medical Professional Red Flags’ with an image of a doctor with an angry expression
The rest are all text:
2. They label you as a hypochondriac (someone who has health anxiety) when you express your fears and invalidated your concerns
3. They don’t tell you the side effects of prescribed medication/brush them off
4. They insist that their diagnosis is right when you have evidence otherwise
5. They become defensive when you ask for a second opinion
6. They rush you through the medical process and don’t spend enough time to understand your condition
7. They don’t listen to you or your suggestions
8. They spend more time berating you and your choices than actually helping you
9. They talk more about themselves than to you
10. Many, people do not trust medical professionals because of these reasons, but the fact is that there are plenty of ethical doctors and nurses out there who do want to help you that these people give a bad name to.
Please feel free to swap doctors if they display any of these red flags until you meet a good one!
Draining and paving wetlands is just about one of the worst ideas ever. When water can disperse along a winding waterway into soft soil it slows it’s movement way down. Slow water deposits sediment instead of eroding it. Plants can grow in it that clean the water and trap more sediment. That increased soil absorbs and slows extra water when there’s a larger rain than usual and buffers the effects of even torrential storms.
Fast, straight waterways remove soil, and don’t give water a chance to soak in. Often insult is added to injury by paving and armoring the banks (ostensibly to reduce erosion) removing any possibility of absorbing and slowing extra water. Any increase in precipitation upstream means a higher water level. A storm means catastrophic flooding.
Draining wetlands doesn’t make more “usable” land, it sets the stage for tragedies.
