Finn’s father, a soldier, died before Finn could ever meet him. There was nothing particularly heroic or significant about his death other than the lives that he had left behind. The most important gift Finn ever got from his mother was drum set for his birthday. A present that she probably found annoying and obtrusive, but Finn loved it. He’s always felt that his mother taught him to be both a good man, and just generally a good person. The lack of a male authority figure in his life wasn’t going to stop him from doing all the things boys love to do. He still played sports and went to cub scouts, his mother filling in wherever and whenever she could, and even when she couldn’t Finn didn’t feel too terrible about receiving help from his friends’ fathers.
The biggest thing his mom ever did for herself was splurging on something called Emerald Dreams, it was a service where someone would come over and spray your grass green so the yard didn’t look so bad. They met Darren that way. He would come over and paint the lawn, even let Finn help, which he thought was pretty cool. The two of them would paint the lawn together singing along with whatever was on the radio. Darren told him he had a gift and it was the first time someone who wasn’t a parent showed him any sort of encouragement. When Darren left his mother she was angry and heart broken, but Finn felt no resentment. He had helped his mom feel something for someone else, no matter how brief, and had cemented Finn’s love of music.
Finn was taught that if you were a good person and tried hard good things would happen for you. He wasn’t sure if that was true, he knew people all throughout his life who had it better than him, nicer clothes, more toys, bigger houses, both parents, and they weren’t all good people. Being a good person might never make all those things come true, but it would make his mother proud, show him how much he loved and appreciated her, so no matter what, he tried. It got harder in high school. Finn loved sports, video games, and girls, academics would never be high on his list of priorities. Despite his economical status his social status was at an all time high. Quarterback of the football team and dating the head cheerleader, Quinn, Finn Hudson was suddenly at the top of the food chain at McKinley High. Being there made it hard for him to remember his goals, remember what it felt like to be on the outside. Too often he took part in actions that hurt and singled out people who were different. Finn had tried so hard to fit in, to be normal, that sometimes he just didn’t understand why people didn’t try as hard as him.
When his Spanish teacher Mr. Schuester came to talk to him and the rest of the football team about joining glee a hint of mild interest hit him, but was quickly squashed when he heard the reaction the other players had. Then, like the others, he laughed it off and dismissed the teacher. Things could have ended right there, he could have gone on with his life, but music was in his soul all the time and no matter how dorky it was sometimes he just couldn’t leave it inside. Sometimes, if he were the last one left in the shower after practice he liked singing to himself. The room was large and open and his voice could just radiate. It was different than just singing in the shower at home.
Unfortunately for Finn, he never thought someone would be listening to him sing in the boys locker room and never thought it would be used as ammunition against him. When Mr. Schuester heard the strength and passion in Finn’s singing he knew that he had to have Finn in glee club for both the sake of both of them. He blackmailed Finn into joining glee club using marijuana he obtained from a former colleague to frame Finn for having illegal narcotics in his locker. Finn protested that the drugs were not his and Mr. Schuester agreed to let him off the hook if he joined one more extra-curricular - glee.
At first glee seemed like a waste of time, he had some fun, but he feared that soon his teammates and other people in school would catch on to his new, very uncool, hobby. Strangely enough, it didn’t take long for him to decide he did like glee, and when forced to make the decision between glee and football he proclaimed he’d do both,.

» @sharkfinn5: Spiderman joins Marvel Cinematic Universe! Civil War is gonna be awesome!
» @sharkfinn5: Rachel made me banana bread! #omnom
» Are you in Glee club? If not, would you consider joining? Yeah, it’s super uncool, but it’s actually a lot of fun and helped me through some rough patches this year.
» If there was a world apocalypse, would you be the last person on Earth or would you die soon after the start? I like to think I’d be one of the last people, but like because I was a boy scout and I like to think I’d persevere, but if it turned into like a Mad Max situation, I don’t think I could like… kill someone to stay alive so I could be alone.
» Who’s your favorite person in the world and why? If you could meet them what would you do?
Rachel, she’s the one who got away, and she’s my best friend, and I would pretty much do anything for her. Is it lame to say my mom? She’s been everything. My mom and my dad, and her cooking is awesome and she almost never gets mad at me, and she just sort of all around rocks. I think it’s weird to have a favorite person you’ve never met. Do people actually say that?
» You’re stranded on a deserted island and you only have 4 items with you. What are those items? A TV, my XBOX with all my games, my dad’s recliner, and Rachel so she could sing and put on shows, she’d be like a one woman entertainment center.
