The Magic Galactic Hexagon.
The solar system and the galaxy. The plane of the solar system is tilted at 60.0 degrees to the plane of the galaxy. The midwinter sun is shown lined up with the center of the galaxy, a alignment which occurs every 25,700 years and which peaked at the midsummer eclipse of 1999, and which the Mayans may have reckoned at December 2012.
Michiel le Blon - Crowned Jupiter amid the Elements and Planets (detail), c. 1597.
The crowned Jupiter stands in a circle on a turtle and is surrounded by animals that symbolize the five senses: monkey (taste), dog (smell), deer (hearing), turtle (touch) and eagle (sight). Outside the circle are the four Elements, the Planets, the Winds and the Zodiac Signs.
Five Gardens of the Tree of Life.
1) The first Garden is the lower face of Asiyya, which does not overlap any other world. With relationship to the Tabernacle, this represent the lower (strictly physical) earth, and the area outside of the courtyard.
2) The second Garden consists of the upper face of Asiyya, which is simultaneously the lower face of Yetzirah. This corresponds to the “upper earth” and also the “lower Eden.” It is seen as the area of the courtyard around the Tabernacle proper.
3) The third Garden is the upper face of Yetzirah, which is simultaneously the lower face of Beriah. This is associated with the “upper Eden” and “lower Heaven,” and the Sanctuary of the Tabernacle.
4) The fourth Garden is the upper face of Beriah, which is simultaneously the lower face of Azilut. Here we have the “upper Heaven” and “lower Divine,” and the Holy of Holies within the Tabernacle.
5) The fifth Garden is the upper face of Azilut, which does not overlap any other world and represents pure Divinity “beyond” the Tabernacle itself.
The Power of Chanting Om.
Om has powerful meaning and significance. The ancient mantra or vibration traditionally chanted at the at the beginning and end of a yoga, helps foster a deeper connection to the practise than can be achieved with rhythmic breathing and physical postures. Om is considered sacred and resonates a high spiritual and creative energy. Chanting Om is said to create a sense of harmony and unity of the mind, body and soul. Om is believed to represent the basic sound of the Universe: the cosmic vibration that gives birth to all other sounds.
When pronounced correctly, the sanskrit word Om it is actually A-U-M and actually consists of four syllables:
A – The stretched-out A sound begins at the back of your throat and as it is stretched out, you will begin to sense your chest and solar plexus vibrating.
U – The stretched out “oo” sound will gradually resonate along your upper palate, creating vibrations in your throat.
M – The prolonged “mmmm” sound. The last syllable is created via the transition from the “M” to the deep silence of the Infinite.
The first three states syllables equate to the conscious, sub-conscious and unconscious states of the mind. Encompassing the divine energy (Shakti), these three letters symbolise the basis of:
According to yoga, Samkya and other scriptures, the letters of Om correspond to three gunas (principals of nature):
A = tamas, signifying darkness, inertia and ignorance (waking state)
U = rajas, signifying passion, activity and dynamism (dream state)
M = sattva, signifying purity, truth and light (state of deep sleep)
The natural humming energy of Om exists all around us. Om vibrates at the frequency of 432 Hz, which is the same frequency as everything in nature. Keep in mind that everything in the entire universe is actually pulsating and vibrating. Chanting Om connects us to all that is living, from beings, to nature, to the universe. Part of the sacred scriptures of most Hindi traditions, the Om mantra is referred to as being the same as the supreme consciousness.
Scientists prove that Communication between Minds separated by Distance is Possible.
Telepathy is the purported transmission of information from one person to another without using any of our known sensory channels or physical interaction. A brain-to-brain communication study organized by Harvard Medical School has revealed that human brains can “talk” directly to one another despite being physically separated by thousands of miles. Conducted by a group of robotics engineers and neuroscientists from across the globe, the study proves that information can be transmitted between two human brains through leveraging different passageways to the mind.
The group of participants that took part in the study was between 28 and 50 in age. Electrodes were attached to one person’s scalp on the sending end, to monitor brain currents and were then hooked up to a computer that interpreted the signal. On the receiving end subjects were tasked with interpreting the message using the computer-brain interface. When the messages were sent, the receivers experienced brain stimulation; flashes of light in their peripheral vision and they were able to decipher simple messages.
You have probably experienced telepathy before with someone you are close with. Perhaps you have thought of an individual and all of a sudden you have received a call front them. Many people have claimed to know when a loved one has passed away despite thousands of miles of physical separation. For telepathy to work, both the sender and receiver must have an open-minded attitude and belief that it will work. An environment free of distractions is ideal and your mind must be clear of thoughts. The next step is visualising the receiver sitting beside you and imagine a tube connecting the two of you. Picture your thoughts being transmitted through the tube. Paint a mental picture of whatever you thinking of and infuse your thoughts with positive emotion.
This study represents only a small step toward engineering telepathy, which might take years - or decades - to perfect. Ultimately, the goal is to remove the computer middleman from the transmission equation and allow direct brain-to-brain communication between people.
“The Self is an archetype that represents the Unification of the Unconsciousness and Consciousness of an individual. The Creation of the Self occurs through a process known as Individuation, in which the various aspects of personality are integrated. Jung often represented the Self as a Circle, Square or Mandala.” - Kendra Cherry

The Transcension Hypothesis: Sufficiently Advanced Civilizations Invariably Leave Our Universe.
The transcension hypothesis, also known as the developmental singularity hypothesis proposes that a universal process of evolutionary development guides all sufficiently advanced civilizations increasingly into inner space, the domain of very small scales of space, time, energy and matter (STEM), and eventually, to a black-hole-like destination, censored from our observation. If constrained transcension operates on all advanced civilizations as they develop, and if this process leads them, with rare exception, to enter inner space or black-hole-like domains, this would explain Enrico Fermi’s curious paradox, the question of why we have not seen signs of intelligence in our own galaxy, even though Earth has likely developed intelligent life one to three billion years later than other Earth-like environments closer to our galactic core. This impressively long period of prior evolutionary development provides plenty of time for messages, automated probes, or other signs of galactic intelligence to have arrived from any single advanced civilization that chooses an expansionist program.
If we could witness the evolutionary development of two parametrically identical universes from birth to death we would expect to see huge differences in terms of the creation of internal structure, the evolution of life, emergence of intelligence and the application of technology within such civilisations whilst at the same time observing deep commonalities in terms of historic processes, as well as biological, cultural and technological convergence. Species convergence in the sense of a non-identical, dynamic progression towards universal milestones is of critical importance to Smart’s next suggestion; rather than advanced civilisations seeding the galaxy in a process of expansion, evolutionary development guides intelligent life increasingly into inner space and what is referred to as STEM, small scales of space, time, energy and matter that eventually lead to black hole like domains. The reversal of scale from the very large stellar engineering projects predicated on the expansionist model to the very small atomic and subatomic realms offered by the transcension model would certainly explain why no evidence so far exists of galactic intelligence despite the relative lateness of humanity’s arrival on the scene, particularly as the universe seems to many cosmologists as a life friendly environment.
There are a number of reasons why black holes would seem to be an attractive environment for STEM density and general learning systems. Black holes may provide the ultimate computing environment by removing the energy cost of information transfer. This would solve the ‘memory wall’ that exists in contemporary computing and allow instantaneous communication and computation from any point to point in the event horizon. Also, bizarrely due to gravitational time dilation, the closer you approach a black hole the slower non-local time becomes to the point that near instantaneous forward time travel with respect to the rest of the universe would take place. This means that any miniaturised civilisation situated directly above the event horizon of a black hole would witness the universe speed through its processes in the literal blink of an eye. Galaxies such as the Milky Way and Andromeda would collide and merge, and if our current theories are sound, so would all black holes in their local gravity wells. In fact according to some, all the matter in our universe will one day end up inside merged black holes. Entering a black hole without losing structural information would therefore be a considerable challenge to any advanced intelligence.
In this scenario, each universal civilization may be in the process of turning into something analogous to a seed, a developmental structure that packages its evolutionary history and experience in a way that transcends our apparently finite and potentially dying universe, just as seeds transcend finite and dying biological bodies. An equivalent biological analogy for our universe itself might be an ovarian follicle, a developmental structure that assembles many potential seeds and puts them in a competitive selective system to generate the best new seed. While evolutionary process is best characterized by divergence and speciation, the hallmark of developmental processes is convergence and unification. A planet of postbiological life forms, if subject to universal development, may increasingly look like one integrated organism, and if so, its entities will be vastly more responsible, regulated, and self-restrained than human beings. If developmental immunity exists, planetary transitions from life to intelligent life, and from intelligent life to postbiological life should be increasingly high-probability.
Altered States of Consciousness.
An altered state of consciousness is a brain state wherein one loses the sense of identity with one’s body or with one’s normal sense perceptions. A person may enter an altered state of consciousness through such things as sensory deprivation or overload, neurochemical imbalance, fever, or trauma. One may also achieve an altered state by chanting, meditating, entering a trance state, or ingesting psychedelic drugs. The testimonies of mystics and meditators who claim that their ability to enter altered states of consciousness has brought them enlightenment or transcendence are generally regarded with great skepticism among the majority of scientists in Western society. Other researchers, especially those in the field of parapsychology, maintain that Western science must recognize the value of studying altered states of consciousness and face up to the fact that what scientists consider baseline or normal consciousness is not unitary.
Sacred Geometry is the blueprint of Creation and the genesis of all form. It is an ancient science that explores and explains the energy patterns that create and unify all things and reveals the precise way that the energy of Creation organizes itself. On every scale, every natural pattern of growth or movement conforms inevitably to one or more geometric shapes. As you enter the world of Sacred Geometry you begin to see as never before the wonderfully patterned beauty of Creation. The molecules of our DNA, the cornea of our eye, snow flakes, pine cones, flower petals, diamond crystals, the branching of trees, a nautilus shell, the star we spin around, the galaxy we spiral within, the air we breathe, and all life forms as we know them emerge out of timeless geometric codes. Viewing and contemplating these codes allow us to gaze directly at the lines on the face of deep wisdom and offers up a glimpse into the inner workings of the Universal Mind and the Universe itself. The ancients believed that the experience of Sacred Geometry was essential to the education of the soul. They knew that these patterns and codes were symbolic of our own inner realm and the subtle structure of awareness. To them the Sacred Geometry had particular significance involving consciousness and the profound mystery of awareness, the ultimate sacred wonder.
Mandala of Avalokiteshvara.
Avalokiteshvara, or Chenrezig as he is known in Tibet, is the Buddhist deity who personifies the ideal of compassion. He can be portrayed in several different forms, two of the most popular being as a white deity with either four arms or 1000 arms; the extra arms symbolize his ability to help many beings simultaneously.
The Mandala can be described as being the residence of the respective deities and their retinues. The sand Mandala of Avalokiteshvara was originated from the tantric teachings of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni. Although depicted on a flat surface, the Mandala is actually three-dimensional, being a “divine mansion” at the center of which resides Avalokiteshvara, surrounded by the deities of his entourage. Every aspect of the Mandala has meaning: nothing is arbitrary or superfluous. The four outer walls of the mansion are in five transparent layers, representing faith, effort, memory, meditation, and wisdom. The four doorways, one in the center of each of the four walls, represent the Four Immeasurable Thoughts: love, compassion, joy, and equanimity and there are decorated with precious jewels. The lotus flower in the center of the Mandala represent the lotus family, one of the Buddha families that correspond to the five psychophysical components of a human being, and which purify specific impure states of mind; the Lotus family purifies passion into discriminating awareness. The white thousand arms, thousand-eyed Avalokiteshvara is standing in the center of the lotus flower, on a white moon disk. In the four directions are seated his retinue seated on white full moon disks. The deities arise from the unity of; the wisdom of emptiness and great bless of the principle deity Avalokiteshvara. Seated on the eastern petal is the purified aspect of Hatred in the form of a blue deity Akshobhya, on the southern petal is the purified aspect of Misery in the form of a deity Rathasambhava and likewise, the purified part of Ignorance & Jealousy are represented by the deity Vaivochana at the western and the deity Amogasiddhi at the northern petal respectively. The central deity Avaloketishvara represents the freedom from attachment. The lotus itself symbolizes the mind of renunciation. To protect the residence from negative conditions, it is surrounded by a Vajra fence, which also symbolizes the continuous teaching of the Vajrayana (Tantric Teaching) by lord Avalokiteshvara. In the outmost part, it is circled with burning flames radiate with intense light are not only for protection but also to burn away or to get rid of delusion and the dark nesses of the ignorance.
In general, the Mandala shows a method of bringing peace and harmony in our world, through genuine practices of the mind of Great Compassion, the Wisdom of Emptiness, and the meditations of Mandala with their respective deities. We can generate the respective qualities as mentioned and thereby bring about a positive change in this world of ours. For a practitioner who meditate on the Tantra of Avalokiteshvara, one would familiarize oneself with every detail of the Mandala and the deities within it, engaging in repeated exercises based upon visualizing the pure beings and pure environment which symbolized one’s own being and environment in purified, sublime form. Such exercises, carried out within the basic Buddhist framework of developing wisdom and compassion, bring about a profound transformation of the psyche. Just to glimpse the Mandala, however, will create a positive impression on the mind-stream of the observer, who for a moment is in touch with the profound potential for perfect Enlightenment, which exists within the mind of all beings.
At the end of ritual ceremony, the Mandala will be systematically dismantled and the sand powder of the Mandala will be thrown into a clean river or a sea to remind the impermanence of the world. In fact, it serves to enrich the soil and the mineral resources and to eliminate the untimely death.
Andreas Cellarius - Scenographia Systematis Copernicani (detail), “Harmonia Macrocosmica”, 1660.
This map illustrates the Copernican system of the Universe, as described by Copernicus in his “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres), published in 1543. His Heliocentric model, with the Sun at the center of the Universe, demonstrated that the observed motions of Celestial objects can be explained without putting Earth at rest in the center of the Universe. His work spurred further scientific investigations, becoming a landmark in the history of Science that is often referred to as the Copernican Revolution.
Golden Ratio Fractal.
Fractals stabilize all of the energy waves flying through our Universe, and create an efficient and structured energetic highway upon which to travel. Fractals originate as an alignment of repeating energy vectors that provide for a stable interconnectedness of all energy systems in the Universe. Since these Fractals are energetic in origin, and since energy influences matter, they leave their mark in matter by creating repeating patterns seen throughout Nature. These repeating patterns are also found in the human body serving as a reminder that we all originated from the same source, and we are all connected.
Fractals display self-similarity with the ability for objects to exhibit the same type of structure in all scales, large or small. Fractals give Sacred Geometry and snowflakes their structure. You can also find Fractal patterns in the branches of a tree, fronds of a plant, crystals, ocean waves, earthquakes, and even DNA. Not surprisingly, since Fractals originate as energy vectors, they are also observed in coherence patterns of brain function and in heart rate variability analysis. Dark energy existing in dark matter, consists of energy vectors creating repeating Fractals, and is what gives our Universe energetic stability through similarity in structure. On the earth plane, the energetic influence of Fractals is represented mathematically, allowing for the actual measurements of the physical components of these Fractals.
Mathematical expressions of Fractals are seen in the Golden ratio, Penrose tiling, and the Fibonacci sequence. The Golden Ratio is a number found by dividing a line in two parts so that the longer part divided by the smaller part is equal to the whole length divided by the longer part. Roger Penrose, a professor of mathematics and physics, established that a surface could be tiled in an asymmetrical, non-repeating pattern using five-fold symmetry with two shapes based on the Golden Ratio. This pattern named Penrose tiling, and was later discovered to exist in Nature as the structure of quasicrystals. The Fibonacci Sequence is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers, and is represented in Nature by the petals of a flower and the bracts of a pine cone. All structures and processes in Nature are Fractal.
Energy of Consciousness.
Energy is the fabric of the Universe, and all matter originates from energy. Energy is information, including thoughts, prayers, intentions, and beliefs. Regarding this, some of the highest energetic frequencies in consciousness are universal spiritual truths found in all of the sacred texts.
Consciousness is the omniscient information field that connects everyone and everything. The energy field of consciousness includes:
Subconscious and conscious thought forms of all humans
Consciousness of the Soul – Higher Self
Consciousness of all that is created by the Divine – Universe
Consciousness of the Divine
Concepts in physics relating to energy are evolving based on new findings in the cosmos, which may require a complete rethinking of Einstein’s law of relativity. Not only is the concept of energy shifting on the physical plane of mathematical laws as new discoveries are made in our universe, but a major shift is occurring in global consciousness. Researchers at the Institute of HeartMath say “Humankind is in the middle of a great paradigm shift from a mentality of competition to one of cooperation.”
As the human race goes through the Great Change of transformation in consciousness to create new systems of cooperation and unity on Earth, the energetic push comes from the frequencies encoded in your DNA. These frequencies include lower vibrational shadow frequencies associated with fear, and higher vibrational gift frequencies associated with love. As you transcend your fears and come into a state of unconditional love, you transform your consciousness to a higher frequency band that energizes your DNA creating profound healing in your body-mind. DNA is a biologic quantum field computer, and as such, connects you to the energies of the spiritual dimension and consciousness.
All energies influence each other, sometimes in subtle, but more often in highly significant and unusual ways. If energy waves come together in coherence forming a constructive interference pattern, they create an energy wave of higher amplitude, thus increasing the amount of energy carried by the wave. Increasing the energy of a wave has the potential to amplify its effect on matter, including your body-mind.
Jonathan Goldman - Scheme of Vowel-Chakra Sounds, “Healing Sounds: The Power of Harmonics”, 1992.
These diagrams express the scientific and spiritual viewpoints about how to use the transformative power of sound for healing on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. The Mystery Schools of Egypt, Greece, and Rome understood that vibration is the fundamental active force in the Universe, and they developed specific chants and tones for healing the mind, body, and spirit and achieving altered states of consciousness. Overtone chanting, also called vocal harmonics, is the ability of the human voice to create two or more notes at the same time. These diagrams explain how to perform these vocal harmonics and experience their transformative and curative powers.
Goldman has a three-part theory that runs beneath all of his written and music works:
1. That everything in the Universe is in a state of vibration. Everything is in motion and produces a sound or frequency. This includes the various parts of our body, organs, bones, tissue, etc.
2. When we are in a state of “sound” health, everything in our bodies is vibrating in resonance or harmony with itself. When something is vibrating out of harmony, we call this “disease”.
3. Sound is an energy that can entrain or change the vibrational rate of objects. Therefore, if something is vibrating out of tune or harmony, it is possible to create the correct, natural “resonant” frequency of the out of tune object, project it to that out of tune portion and cause it to vibrate back to its normal, healthy state.
This, in turn, can be summarized as: Frequency + Intent = Healing.
Cosmic Microwave Background - The Afterglow of Creation.
The ‘Afterglow of Creation’ – commonly known as the Cosmic Background Radiation – is the left-over heat from the fireball of the Big Bang in which the Universe was born 13.7 billion years ago. It provides a unique insight into our Universe’s infancy - a ‘baby photo’ described somewhat dramatically by Stephen Hawking as ‘the discovery of the century, if not of all time’ and by experimentalist and Nobel Prize winner George Smoot as ‘like seeing the face of God’.
Here are a few more little known facts about the Cosmic Background Radiation:
1. It’s the oldest fossil in Creation
It comes from a time just 380,000 years after the Universe burst into being.
2. It’s the coldest thing in the Universe
It is has been cooled by the expansion of the Universe to just 2.725 degree above absolute zero – the lowest possible temperature – so it appears not as visible light but stretched out into short-wavelength radio waves, principally microwaves.
3. It carries with it a ‘baby photo’ of the Universe
The splotches on the ‘photo’ show the locations where the smooth stuff of the Big Bang fireball is for the first time beginning to curdle into clusters of Galaxies.
4. It accounts for 99.9 % of all the particles of light in the Universe
Remarkably, only 0.1 per cent is tied up in the light from the Stars and Nebulae and Galaxies. If you were in Space with ‘magic glasses’ that showed microwaves, you would see the whole of the Universe glowing brightly with the Big Bang Afterglow just as if you were inside a light bulb.
5. It’s in the air around you - even in the room where you are now
It had absolutely nowhere to go since it was bottled up in the Universe, and the Universe, by definition, is all there is. Every cubic centimetre of space is currently being traversed by 300 photons from the big bang. Tune your TV between the stations and about 1% of the static on the screen is from the Big Bang fireball.
Megalithic or 366 Geometry.
According to hypothesis of Alan Butler and Christopher Knight, megalithic civilization of Britain and Britanny, France used 366-degree geometry (also called megalithic geometry). This geometry, whose origin is claimed to go back to c. 3,000 BC, would have used a 366-degree circle rather than a 360-degree circle as we do today. Alan Butler also asserts that 366-degree geometry has been materialised on the Earth by what he terms Salt Lines – 366 meridians and 183 parallels crisscrossing the globe at regular intervals (the equivalents of modern-day 360 meridians and 180 parallels).
Butler and Knight claim that the Megalithic Yard is a fundamental number for the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. The Megalithic arc second as measured on the Earth equator is very close to 366 Megalithic Yards, while the lunar Megalithic arc second as measured on the Moon equator is very close to 100 Megalithic yards, and the solar Megalithic arc second as measured on the Sun equator is very close to 40,000 Megalithic Yards.
French author Sylvain Tristan suggests that the numbers 366, 40 and 10 are not only fundamental to the Earth, the Moon and the Sun, but also to the human body and water. In the water-based Celsius temperature measurement system, which is directly linked to base-10 numeration, the average human body temperature is 36.6 degrees. On a scale where the absolute zero is defined as being minus 1,000 degrees, water boils at the temperature of 366 degrees, which points at something intrinsically fundamental in these numbers.
Alan Butler also asserts that 366-degree geometry has been materialised on the Earth by what he terms Salt Lines – 366 meridians and 183 parallels crisscrossing the globe at regular intervals (the equivalents of modern-day 360 meridians and 180 parallels). Most of the world’s capital cities or sanctuaries of late prehistory and antiquity are located on the course of Salt Lines: it includes Stonehenge, Avebury, Babylon, Assur, Niniveh, Thebes, Abu Simbel, Harappa, Mycenae, Athenes, Hattusa, Alesia, Teotihuacan, Chichén Itzá, Tiwanaku and Caral. According to the author, such a situation challenges probability laws and can hardly been explained away by chance only, and thus is the result of some common knowledge held by the Megalithic civilisation that might have spread to different parts of the globe.
Boltzmann brain is a hypothesized self aware entity which arises due to random fluctuations out of a state of chaos. The idea is named for the physicist Ludwig Boltzmann, who advanced an idea that the Universe is observed to be in a highly improbable non-equilibrium state because only when such states randomly occur can brains exist to be aware of the Universe. The Boltzmann brains concept is often stated as a physical paradox. The paradox states that if one considers the probability of our current situation as self-aware entities embedded in an organized environment, versus the probability of stand-alone self-aware entities existing in a featureless thermodynamic “soup”, then the latter should be vastly more probable than the former.
The Boltzmann brains concept has been proposed as an explanation for why we observe such a large degree of organization in the Universe (a question more conventionally addressed in discussions of entropy in cosmology). Boltzmann proposed that we and our observed low-entropy world are a random fluctuation in a higher-entropy universe. Even in a near-equilibrium state, there will be stochastic fluctuations in the level of entropy. The most common fluctuations will be relatively small, resulting in only small amounts of organization, while larger fluctuations and their resulting greater levels of organization will be comparatively more rare. Large fluctuations would be almost inconceivably rare, but are made possible by the enormous size of the Universe and by the idea that if we are the results of a fluctuation, there is a “selection bias”: we observe this very unlikely Universe because the unlikely conditions are necessary for us to be here, an expression of the anthropic principle. If our current level of organization, having many self-aware entities, is a result of a random fluctuation, it is much less likely than a level of organization which only creates stand-alone self-aware entities. For every universe with the level of organization we see, there should be an enormous number of lone Boltzmann brains floating around in unorganized environments. In an infinite universe, the number of self-aware brains that spontaneously and randomly form out of the chaos, complete with false memories of a life like ours, should vastly outnumber the real brains evolved from an inconceivably rare local fluctuation the size of the observable Universe. The Boltzmann brain paradox is that any observers (self-aware brains with memories like we have, which includes our brains) are therefore far more likely to be Boltzmann brains than evolved brains.
Athanasius Kircher - Diagrams showing the interconnectedness of Fire and Water inside the Earth, “Mundus Subterraneus”, 1665.
Kircher stated that “the whole Earth is not solid but everywhere gaping, and hollowed with empty rooms and spaces, and hidden burrows.” Deep down, it holds many great oceans and fires, interconnected by a system of passageways that reached all the way to its core. In his view, volcanoes, however awful and awe-inspiring, “are nothing but the vent-holes, or breath-pipes of Nature,” and earthquakes are merely the “proper effects of subterrestrial cumbustions” that are sure to go on constantly. The “prodigious volcanoes and fire-vomiting mountains visible in the external surface of the earth do sufficiently demonstrate it to be full of invisible and underground fires,” he wrote. “For wherever there is a volcano, there also is a conservatory or storehouse of fire under it…. And these fires argue for deeper treasuries and storehouses of fire, in the very heart and inward bowels of the Earth.” According to Kircher, “the fire and water sweetly conspire together in mutual service.” The tides, caused by the nitrous effluvia of the moon, push “an immense bulk of water” through “hidden and occult passages at the bottom of the Ocean” and thrust it “forcibly into the intimate bowels of the Earth.” The resulting winds “excite and stir up” and otherwise feed the subterraneous fire like a huge bellows. The seas, which would stagnate and freeze without the fires, keep the fires from getting out of hand, preventing “unlimited eruptions,” which would “soon turn all to ruins.” The “secret make-up of the mountains” is that they are hollow and serve as reservoirs. Hot baths, hot springs, and fountains are produced where underground water passageways come near or interconnect with the fire channels.
More than once, Kircher compares the movement of the earth’s water to the circulation of the blood in the body as described by William Harvey. The water of the oceans follows its “secret motions” up and around the globe toward the North Pole. Somewhere off the coast of Norway (the actual site of a major whirlpool system called the Moskenstraumen), he declared, is a giant maelstrom through which the water enters the earth - as if passing through a great drain - and runs through it, cooling it down, providing it with nutriments in particulate form before being eliminated through a nether opening at the South Pole. Sometimes the analogies referred more to the continuing process of the digestive system than the cycling of blood, but no matter: “You see therefore the manner and way of the Circulation of Nature.”
