In public, Lin rarely talks to Kya and usually keeps a far distance from her in order to keep any suspicions from rising about their relationship. But when they’re alone together Lin is an absolute BABY and she’s all over Kya, wanting her attention. And Kya is completely okay with it because she knows that’s what Lin is comfortable with.

When Kya first met Suyin, Su didn’t know her and Lin were dating. So when Kya would flirt with Lin around Su, Su just thought her sister was absolutely oblivious to the fact Kya was flirting with her. “Lin, are you really that dumb!” “What are you talking about?” “Kya is totally into you. She’s been flirting with you all day, and you’ve just been ignoring her. Go for it!” “Su… Kya and I have been dating for three years- I- how could you not know that-”

Lin usually doesn’t get home until really late at night, so Kya has dinner by herself. But on the rare occasion Lin gets home before Kya, she’ll make a nice dinner for the two of them. (Kya doesn’t know Lin is home before her until she gets home.)

When Kya and Lin were coming out to everyone, Lin tried to convince Kya not to tell Korra and Asami yet because she didn’t want roped in to the double dates the two would want. Of course, Kya loved the idea of double dates and told them immediately. They now go on double dates once or twice a month. Lin secretly enjoys going because she loves seeing Kya laugh and having a good time. She’ll never tell her that though.

When Kya and Lin were young adults, the Gaang and their families would always go to ember island together. Suyin would always tease Lin about her constantly staring at Kya. After making Lin horribly pissed off at her, Su would call Kya over then run away, leaving Lin alone with Kya, who Lin couldn’t help but notice looked incredibly good in her two piece bikini.

When Lin asked Asami to help her make a betrothal necklace for Kya, Asami almost passed out with excitement. After the necklace was made, Lin asked Asami how she should propose. “How am I even supposed to go about this? I- I’ve never proposed to anyone before.” “I proposed to Korra in the spirit world. That’s where we went on our first vacation together. That’s where I fell in love with her.” “Yeah well, proposing to Kya where I fell in love with her might be kinda hard.” “Why?” “Because proposing in Tenzin’s teenage bedroom would be pretty weird.”

Kya was the first and is the only person who has ever touched Lin’s scar. Kya was the one who helped her get cleaned up after the incident with her sister. Tenzin had tried to rest his hand on that side of Lin’s face a few times while him and Lin were together, but Lin would always slap his hand away. Now, while Lin lays her head on Kya’s lap, she loves the feeling of Kya tracing her scar with her fingers.

Katara had to practically force Kya to make the first move on Lin because it was obvious that Lin wasn’t gonna do it any time soon, despite having heavy feelings for the waterbender. When Kya finally asked Lin out on a date, Lin’s body completely shut down and she didn’t give Kya an answer, making Kya think the feeling was one sided. It wasn’t until ten months later when Lin and Kya were sitting under a tree on Air Temple Island and Lin kissed Kya.

Kya and Lin’s first fight was caused by Pema asking Kya to watch Rohan.. at her and Lin’s house. Lin got home from work that day to toys scattered all over the living room floor, along with Rohan’s mess he made with food on the kitchen table. “The house is an absolute mess.” “I know, I know, and I’m gonna clean it. But look at how cute he is when he’s sleeping.” “When he’s- Kya! You’re completely missing the point. I don’t like kids in the house and you know that.” “So.. if I said that I wanted a family with you..” “A- a family! Kya are you crazy!?” “Are kids really that big of a problem for you?” “Yes! Kya, I don’t want kids. Not of my own, and not in my house. That’s that.”

Kya and Lin never actually told Tenzin they were together. They just waited for him to find out. When they were at the island together, Lin and Kya would purposely give each other kisses on the cheek in front of him, hoping he’d notice, but he never did. Until one day when Meelo said he had two aunts, and told Tenzin that it was Kya and Lin.

Before Kya and Lin started dating, Kya would always go to the police station with some bogus report and would tell the other officers that she refuses to speak with anyone but Lin. Lin caught on after Kya’s eighth report, and the next time Kya walked into her office, Lin slammed the door shut and kissed Kya.
