Fluff AO3 app and Fanfic Pocket app are mirroring AO3 content while offering paid subscriptions to their app. Fanfic Pocket in particular are brazenly showing ads on each fanwork too. I have contacted both asking them to remove my works from their app.
To their credit, V from Fluff has already replied to me and will remove my works from the app and prevent future works being added so if anyone else wants their works removing I just used the contact form and got a reply within a few hours.
I also wanted to post part of the reply I sent back, because I think it’s important for people to understand why this is a big deal for fanwork creators, especially when the app is only offering subs/showing ads not putting out works behind a paywall like the Woodsign apps are:
“Please understand that many authors like myself specifically upload on AO3 because of their strong non-commercial stance unlike other sites that use free-to-read fanworks to make money via ads or paid premiums that do not benefit the work creator at all. This sort of thing goes against the very purpose of the Archive that allows fanwork creators to control the distribution of their works and whether or not money is made from them at all, and if any money is made it goes directly to the person who created the work.
While I appreciate that you have worked hard on the app and don’t disagree that you should be permitted to make money to cover your costs, I hope you realise that by doing this solely off the back of other people’s fanworks you are effectively preventing us from receiving cost-covering donations ourselves. Perhaps people would object less if it were a single-time donation request offered without being pushed on users via pop-ups, the same way we rely on readers clicking through to our social networks and finding our donation pages. Which, obviously, they won’t be doing if they’re reading on your app and paying you for a subscription already - why would they give money to a creator when they are already paying for the fics? For example, I am unemployed, disabled, and living on the poverty line. I make zero income from my fanworks, why is it okay for you to make income from the works I create for the love of writing and to stop myself from going stir crazy since I almost never leave the house due to my illness, while I am wondering if I can afford food each week?
I hope this goes some way to explaining why I and many others object to our works being distributed on a platform that offers subscription options or shows ads alongside our hard work.”
If anyone else would like to use any of this verbiage or rephrase it to suit you, please feel free! And I strongly urge anyone who has an issue with this to contact these apps and politely ask them to remove their works.
In the meantime, I set one of my works to “show to registered users only” and that seemed to remove it from the app, though I’m not logged in to AO3 on either of them (I don’t want to give them my username and password) so I don’t know if that will make a difference for people who are, but it’s an option at least temporarily for anyone concerned.
Please feel free to reblog and I hope for a quick resolution for everyone <3

“I can explain,” Sherlock promised, his voice raw and rough in John’s ear. “I will tell you everything… anything… all of it, I swear…” He swallowed, knowing he should pull back, give John time, allow room for his anger. “I’ll let go in a minute… “ Sherlock held on.
Slowly, John’s arms rose to wrap around the apparition before him, unexpected, unbelievable, but entirely and completely familiar. “Sherlock…” he started, but there was nowhere to go beyond that name… nothing else in the world that he wanted. “Sherlock…” His arms tightened, fingers splaying out. “Don’t let go…”
a piece of advice my dad gave me and I’ve never forgotten is, “if you won’t worry about it in 4 months, don’t worry about it now.” saved me countless times, it’s a philosophy to adopt and help improve your life. Failed a test? ask yourself if you’ll think about this still in 4 months? Made a fool of yourself in public? I doubt even the people who saw it will remember it past today. Know you could have done better? Ran further? don’t beat yourself up over it, you can do better tomorrow. Don’t overthink things, a lot of negatives matter less than you think they do.
It’s not stupid. I promise. It’s not stupid to turn into your 5 year old self and get happy beyond measure for the little things. It’s not stupid to be proud of yourself for completing a load of laundry and washing the dishes. You aren’t lame for patting yourself on the back when you chose a salad over a burger. You’re taking care of yourself and each victory - no matter how small - is worth celebrating.
*Sherlock drifted off on the sofa after a frustrating day and John is gently waking him up so they can go to bed and he can gather his sleepy husband in his arms and softly murmur words of love into his dark curls until they both fall asleep.
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome to the fandom! I realize it’s a bit early for Inktober, but I’m DONE with the oppressive summer heat and I’m longing for scarves and stylish greatcoats - also, this is technically a watercolor ;) .
“In the way you look at him. The way he’s your sole focus. The way you’d do absolutely anything for him.”
“Is it that obvious?”
“Oh, don’t worry about that. You know, I might not be like you and Mycroft, but I do notice things. A mother always notices things.”
“Well, what do I do?”
“You need to tell him.”
“I can’t.”
“Why not? You’re a brave boy, you can do anything.”
“Not this. It… it means too much.”
“That’s exactly why you should tell him. Anybody would be lucky to have you.”
“I’m the lucky one here.”
“I know you think that. I know you do. But I notice other things, too.”
“Like what?”
“Like the way he looks at you in return. It hasn’t escaped my notice.”
“I doubt it.”
“I’m telling you.”
“You’re biased.”
“Yes, true, but I’m not an idiot.”
“Most of the time.”
“Yes, most of the time.”
….
“Well?”
“How do I do it? If I do decide to do it?”
“I think you just ask to speak to him, over coffee or lunch or whatever you boys usually get up to and just tell him outright. Say, ‘I’ve loved you for quite some time and I think you might love me too. Let’s do this thing.’”
“And what if he says no?”
“Then he’s going to spend the rest of his life regretting it.”
“Hmm. I hardly think so. And besides, his wife basically just died. I’m sure he’s not in a hurry to move on.”
“He might surprise you.”
“What if he doesn’t?”
“You face that if it happens.”
“I don’t think I can. I couldn’t face that. Not that.”
“Sherlock. You’re stronger than you think.”
“It’s just… it’s a big risk. If you’ve miscalculated, it could cost me greatly. Not only would I be losing a friend, I’d be losing little Watson, too. I’ve grown rather… fond of her.”
“I know you have, but you need to decide if the risk would be worth it. You can’t go on this way, being miserable and moping about.”
“I’m not moping about.”
“Sherlock. I’m your mother. You can’t lie to me.”
“Fine.”
“Don’t sulk, darling. Call him now and ask him to meet with you. I’m almost certain it will turn out advantageously.”
When your head hits the pillow tonight, remind yourself that you’ve done a good job. You are headed down your path at your own pace, and with every obstacle you are trying your utmost best. Be patient with yourself, and remember that big things are achieved not all at once, but one day at a time.
