LIKE BUT THIS COULD WORK??
Merida has just moved from Scotland with her family, and Meri is just constantly being ignored because her parents are so busy.
She meets Hiccup—a loner boy from town with a mysterious pet cat. In the movie, Wybie made his own bike, so Hiccup can still be an inventor in this AU. After all the crazy shit that goes down in the Other World with the Other Mother and all her creations, Hiccup helps Merida to destroy the Other Mother’s hand and throw the key away.
Then they become buddies and date and kiss and are cute weirdos in the future (*・∀・*)
SEASON 5 IS IN 14 DAYS GUYS. In celebration of both MerMay 2020 and She-Ra ending this month, I wanted to illustrate some of my favourite scene from the series in a Pirate & Mermaid AU!
So here’s the first 4 days! I’ll update daily on my insta and 2 times a week on Tumblr. Basically the story is the same, only with the six pricesses being each one ruler of one of the seas, and the Horde being a Pirate crew that tries to steal their treasure and magic artifacts, seeking eternal life and other sea myths, u know, the usual for pirates.
astrid and heather as total drama island characters!
can you tell i’m having wayyyy too much fun with digital art hehe, i might do more of these with other rtte characters.i used heather (tdi) as the reference for heather (rtte) lolll and bridgette for astrid <3
Wild Skies- Chapter 2/First Flight
Days passed. The two never exchanging more than four words per day. Astrid would eat, walk around the cabin under the supervision of Hiccup, strech, and then sleep. The woman had miscalculated how badly she was injured, feeling the side effects of both the sudden heat change from a burning ship to a freezing sea and the multiple bruises she got when flailed around the deck of her ship. Hiccup even was so bold to offer making her a cane, something that she proudly refused, making the rider a bit self concious with the words that followed it:
“I don’t need a cane. I’m not half a viking.”
She later realized the weight of her words, but never apologized. He was her enemy, why would she be careful with her words when around him?… But that did make her curious. After all this time observing the rider and his dragon, she noticed their matching “missing” parts. Astrid never considered herself a curious person, afterall, curiosity got people killed in the battlefield, but gods help her, she was dying to know about that leg. A good viking loves a good story, and good stories always had scars, scars made powerful people, and although she never would dare to say it outloud, the Stutter was an important piece on this war against the dragons. One day, the rider was once more preparing dinner, Astrid observing from what felt more like her bed after all this time. The rider whistled through his mask, dancing to the tune as the dragon mimicked him, it was almost charming. He finished frying a hefty piece of meat and eggs, putting them on a plate and giving them to Astrid. He had stopped using his helmet all the time, leaving the upper part of his face completely uncovered, from the wild brown hair, to the emerald green eyes. As she took the plate, she stared deep into them, trying to get some sort of reaction, preferrably fear. The man stared back for a few moments and then went back to make his food, unaffected. She took this as an opportunity:
- … You never seem scared of me… Is there a reason for that?
He half-mindedly answered:
- I mean, you aren’t really the scariest sight.
- Some men have described looking at me as if they were looking at death.
Hiccup laughed, not mocking her, but finding the comparison funny:
- People seem to describe a lot of things as “death”. Isn’t Toothless the son of lightning and death itself?
Hiccup pointed at the dragon, who currently laid with his belly turned to the window as to get the sun all over himself. Astrid had to admit, it was a pathetic sight. The warrior couldn’t get distracted, she redirected the conversation:
- Well, maybe you’re not afraid of death because you’ve seen it before.
Hiccup finished his food, sitting at his work table, wich seemed even messier than Astrid remembered.
- Death?… I suppose i’ve had some close encounters.
The valkyrie cut to the chase:
- Is that how you lost your leg?
The dragon lifted his head, as if understanding where the topic was leading. He turned to approach the rider and laid his head on his shoulder, as if to give comfort and apologize. Hiccup patted the dragon, smiling as he turned to face Astrid:
- In a way, i guess so. I wouldn’t say i was ever close to death since i had my buddy with me… But it was quite a sight.
Astrid inched closer, excited for the story that was to come:
- Well… What happened?
Hiccup giggled, the woman looking more like a normal person rather than a “fearsome viking”. He started:
- Well, me and Toothless had just left–
He suddenly stopped, both his head and Toothless’s turning towards the door, as if synchronized. He got up, putting more of his armor, downing his cape and grabbing his sword. The mood turned tense, Astrid stayed silent, not knowing what was happening. Hiccup approached the door, opening it and looking outside, Toothless following him. Looking from one side to the other, he finally turned to Astrid, saying in a grave tone:
- Stay here.
And just like that, he mounted Toothless and flew away. You see, Astrid liked to consider herself a stealthy person, always being fond of a good surprise attack. In fact, she had been planning a way to kill that dragon every single day that passed, even going so far as to faking a back injury so the two of them would think her incapable of walking. Astrid had been waiting for a way to walk without being guarded by the Stutter, and the opportunity had just presented itself. Quickly getting up, the woman carefully looked outside, turning her head to the skies once she saw the surrounding area empty. The small lake in front of the cabin was completely still, the forest had only the sound of birds and night critters, the skies were still and full of clouds… Why did they leave? She might not be on her best form, having skipped some training to rest, but she shouldn’t be that rusty as to not notice some threat. She walked outside, taking one last look around her… And bolting towards the forest. Astrid knew nothing about this place, she didn’t know wich island it was, where it was or if it even had anyone besides the rider here, but better out of the watchfull eye of the Stutter than at his will. The trees were tall and green, the winter still being far from the arquipelago, the ground was fluffy, having rained the previous night. She breathed heavily but coordinated, measuring every step and making sure she got as far away as possible. Hearing something, she slowed her step, the cold, dark night not helping her much. She crouched behind some bushes, seeing a shore on the farther side of the island through the trees. Docking on the beach were ships… Flying Berk colors. Her heart fluttered, they came to save her, they knew she was still alive. She got up, ready to run towards them, her steps flowing with the wind as she dodged every fallen branch and muddy slide. She was so close, almost there, almost back home!
She was suddenly pushed to the ground, a silhouette grabbing her wrists and pinning her down, she struggled about to yell and fight when she felt a knife grazing her stomach… Her vision cleared.
Pirates. Using Berk’s colors, but clearly no vikings.
She was dragged to her feet, letting the sailors do quick work of tying her arms, an knife still trained to her vital points. A sickly voice was heard through the darkness, as a plague inflicted sailor spoke, a bit sad:
- Guess the captain was right… There are people here.
Another sailor, with a gruffer voice, answered:
- Who gives a damn! Our main target is the Stutter. If there are more people, the only thing they’re good for is bait.
A scratch could be heard as an torch was lit, the old pirate approached the flames to Astrid’s face, squinting with the sudden change of lighting:
- Wait… You look familiar…
A third sailor pushed the torch away:
- Get that stuff off mah face! I’m tryin’ to keep her quiet over here!
Astrid didn’t speak a word, analyzing the situation. Soon, the gruff soldier pushed her foward, her arms struggling against the rope. The three bantered around as they brought her to one of the ships, not directing a word to her or giving any instructions. She got brought to the deck, tied tightly against the mast as more pirates appeared. Seeing that they were all waiting for someone, she took the courage to ask:
- Hey, what do you intend to do with me?
All the sailors looked at eachother, confused and clearly without answers. The older one spoke softly, as if speaking to a child:
- You see, you weren’t really part of the plan. We came here because we had heard it’s where the Night Stutter hides. We grabbed you thinking you were him! But since you aren’t, i guess you’re at the captain’s mercy.
Astrid remained silent. She refused, she couldn’t admit Stutter was right. So what he told her to stay put? She had gotten out of worse situations before… Of course, in those situations she had weapons… And backup… And less of a broken body… As of now, there was no opening, no chance for her to get out or do something, all she could do… Was wait. So she did, until the captain came, burly and angry. The sailors asked a thousand questions, giving reports and speaking about how the “berk bait” didn’t work, Astrid wondered what that meant. Finally, one of the sailors asked:
-What do we do with her?
The battered captain with an angry look spoke briefly:
- We’ll sell her in the markets or something, who cares! The Stutter wasn’t here. It means that DAMNED MERCHANT lied to me!! LET’S SAIL BACK!! THIS WAS A LOST CAUSE!!
Astrid was starting to panick. She was surrounded by sailors, hurt, alone, no weapons and being taken to be sold to someone. She needed a plan, and she needed it fast. Scanning the crowd of sailors, she spotted the old man, his face mournfull and guilty. As discretly as she could, she whispered:
- Hey, you!… Can you come here for a second?
The man noticed her, and looking around, he approached trying not to raise suspicion. He spoke softly:
- Do you need anything? Are the ropes too tight?
Astrid put her best lost girl face on. Sharpening her voice and going into a higher pitch, she put her whole heart into the performance worthy of an award:
- Are they… Are they seriously going to sell me?…
The old man fell for it completely, his heart clearly hurting as he stared at her:
- I’m sorry, dearie… I wish there was something i could do, but… This is just how life goes sometimes.
- Please, mister! Anything could help! I’ll get out of these ropes and jump into the ocean, you’ll never see me again! I just need something to let me loose!
The man looked around once more, noise and screaming as they got further into the ocean and farther from the shore. He grabbed a small shiv from his pocket, and slipping it into Astrid’s hands, he backed away, leaving her to do what she had to. Astrid observed how the sailors were positioned, tracing the best escape route. Slowly, she started cutting the ropes, getting ready for her big escape.
A huge roar was heard, everyone staying completely still. The captain walked onto the deck, staring at the sky as he pulled his sword. Everyone was looking up, a sense of dread only those who lived in the arquipelago knew. Astrid finished cutting the ropes, but stayed still, waiting for what was inevitable. One more growl and suddenly everyone pulled their weapons, watching the skies with a terrified feeling. One sailor spoke, barely getting the words out:
- Can… Can anyone see anything?!
No answer. Another sailor spoke:
- Be mindfull, boys!… If this is the night fury… May the gods help us.
The captain observed impatient, stepping around and breathing heavily. He seemed to finally lose his cool as he screamed into the skies to the displeasure of his crew:
- NIGHT STUTTER!!! COME FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED!! DON’T BE A COWARD!!! COME FACE ME!!!
A slowly booming sound, a sound that got louder and louder, piercing the ears of those who heard it. Astrid knew that sound well, wings cutting the sky, the wind refusing to make way, and the unstoppable result of it.
It couldn’t even be seen, as a huge blast of purple energy exploded part of the deck, suddenly everyone was moving, sailors screaming, the sounds of a battle about to start, the terrified movement of people who didn’t want to die. Astrid stopped pretending to still be tied up, running across the deck right as another blast struck, shaking the ship and blocking her path. There was no way that wasn’t intentional. She looked to the skies, the blurry figure hidden by the night, soon he came down to strike another ship, soon one by one, the sailors started to abandon their transports. Astrid was still in the only one who was willing to fight the beast, the captain and some of the sailors readying ballistas and shooting arrows into the nothingness of the night. She ran towards another railing, only for that one to be blasted too, getting a bit too close to her face. This didn’t make any sense, was he toying with her? Did he change his mind about saving her? Did he think she was working with them? Whatever was the reason, it was enough to get the warrior pissed. Running towards a loaded ballista, she took it off the sailors hands, and with incredible skill, aimed it at the moving figure. With one swift motion, the rider dodged it as the arrow flew past, and started to fly towards her, another blast ready to take the ship down once and for all. Astrid heard the old man:
- RUN, LASS!! THIS IS A LOST BATTLE!!
The sailors and captain jumped into the water, but Astrid stayed, staring down the beast and the rider as they approached with formidable speed. Astrid wasn’t scared of dying, and it’s only fair that the person that saved her kills her.
She didn’t close her eyes, and as Hiccup noticed she wasn’t moving, she could hear the rider swear:
He swerved his dragon, making Toothless blast a giant hole in the ship, and grabbing Astrid by the waist and flying upwards with her.
Her head twirled, feeling nauseous and lost with the sudden movement. As if she had passed out with her eyes open, she came back to herself, noticing that the rider was bringing her high. Very, very high!!!
Astrid started yelling and flailing, something instinctual in her viking blood that made her panic in high places. Hiccup tried hugging her tighter, only to almost get shived in the neck:
- SWEET THOR!!
He tossed her around, the girl feeling his grip loosen and hugging him in response:
- PLEASE DON’T LET ME FALL, PLEASE, I’LL DO WHATEVER YOU WAAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Toothless started doing barrel rolls in the sky, soaring already high above the clouds, Hiccup chastized him:
- TOOTHLESS, THAT’S ENOUGH!
The dragon suddenly stopped, grunting in response as if to say “you’re no fun”. Astrid noticed the sudden stabilization. Still hugging Hiccup’s back tight, she slowly opened her eyes.
The sky was the darkest, deepest blue she had ever seen. The clouds around her wich looked giant from the ground, feeling like a light mist from above. Her breathing normalized, butterflies filling her stomach as she took in the danger of the situation, but couldn’t help finding it beautiful. She let go of the rider, who blushed profusely with the uncharacteristic contact. Hiccup hadn’t hugged somebody in years, sure his mother always hugged him when she came around, but those moments were very rare. Astrid’s touch made his head spin and his breathing stop. He tried focusing on the ride to distract himself.
They stayed silent, flying calmly above the clouds and watching colors fill the sky once in a while. Astrid was still uncomfortable, adjusting herself oddly to the saddle. Finally, she asked, a calm tone Hiccup didn’t expect to hear:
- … Were you planning on killing me.
Hiccup couldn’t lie:
- Is… Is there a reason for it? Besides you hating me, that is.
- I don’t hate you. Those feelings don’t bring anything productive… I just couldn’t let you tell people about that island.
Astrid felt that curiosity once again, the same one that got her in trouble in the first place:
- There are… Dragons in that island that can’t be hunted. They are rare, unique, it’s important to keep them safe.
- You would kill me to… Protect these beats?
- I thought we’ve been over this. Yes, i would.
They continued in silence. An akward feeling rising inside their chests. Astrid looked at the shiv, one swing and the Stutter is gone. She slowly positioned the blade in her palm, getting surprised by hearing his voice ask:
- Why did you run?… I know you want to leave but… What was your plan, exactly? You would just wait, maybe make a boat or something?
Astrid was embarrased, some heat going to her cheeks, she was thankful the night hid her face. She answered by changing the subject:
- What about you?! If you don’t plan on letting me go, why help me in the first place?!
- I…! I didn’t think it through, okay?!… I saw your ships, and i wanted to help.
Astrid got interested, tucking the shiv in her sleeve:
- … Why did the pirates think they could lure you out with Berk’s colors? What is your relationship with Berk?
Hiccup went stiff, his grip on the saddle tightening. Turning Toothless around suddenly, Astrid grabbed him again, feeling that calm from before disappear. Hiccup only said:
- Ride’s over. Let’s get you home so you can finish healing.
And so they went. Back to the cabin.

I don’t know if this idea has been done before but I’m willing to bet that a rather steamy make out session would’ve happened between Hiccstrid during or after their fight training sessions. I wonder who would’ve liked getting pinned down the most 😶😏.
The make out session did turn to full on smut. Whoops. Thank you for the request!
