Better late than never
The comedic timing of this strip fits the tone of the show perfectly, right down to Stan putting a quarter in the meter after ramming it through the wall.
Shouts to Alana McLaughlin on her MMA debut. Didn’t even know this was happening. Can’t imagine the reception she’s received from the most vocal parts of the MMA community has been warm.
Also shout to Celine Provost for taking the fight.
Her username on Tumblr is @lady-feral
Omg @lady-feral congrats!!!!!!!! You’ve always been a huge inspiration to me ever since way back when when I saw you with your forge and you continue to amaze me. Just, wow. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks y’all! <3

Big-brained people in the comments keep regurgitating the same gotcha, i.e. “she says the rich should pay more money in taxes, yet she herself bought that dress with money! what a gold-digging hypocrite! liar! bad take!”
For one, she’s not even rich, but even if she was… she can have money… and also support policies that redistribute wealth. These two things are not mutually exclusive. Y’all get that, right? Or do y’all think that her support of these policies means that she has to give away her belongings and live life like fucking Oliver Twist? Does she have to show up to Congress wearing a fucking potato sack because god forbid she show support for progressive economic legislation while owning money?
This is why I can’t trust y’all when people say, “Eat the rich!” Y’all will just end up antagonizing anyone who has a bank account, you’ll fill up on bread and middle class suburban moms, and then all the while people like Elon Musk will run off to Mars.
She also described on Instagram how she came to possess the dress, saying she was proud to work with Aurora James, a black female immigrant who started her own sustainability-focused design brand from a flea market in Brooklyn.
But oh yeah, of course AOC is the fucking devil and we gotta eat her. I hate this stupid fucking hell site.
TBH the hypocrisy of people screaming and screaming that people should be paid a fair wage, and then getting pissy that expensive art and artisanal creations exist is pretty dang frustrating.
a world where both “everyone is paid a fair wage” AND “nothing is expensive” is a world where no one can make a living being an artist or craftsperson.
Many of the couture outfits worn to events like this represent hundreds of hours of highly skilled labor from teams of artisans. So… like… should those people not be paid a fair wage? Should MUAs and hairstylists not be paid a fair wage for their highly skilled labor? Should specialist labor and artisans just not exist and we all just do basic drudgery related to “essential” needs??? cause IDk y'all I feel like, personally, I don’t want to live in a world that doesn’t appreciate art.
I also want to expand just from AOC to criticism I see about the Gala itself - like yes it is absolutely a gratuitous exhibition of wealth and privilege, but the Met Gala is also the biggest and most important fundraiser and publicity machine of the year for the Met’s Costume Institute.
Unlike other departments at the Met, The Costume Institute must fund itself.
And conserving and maintaining textiles and apparel collections is difficult and expensive. You can’t just fold most things up and stack them in a pile in such a collection - over time fibers will break if they’re creased, so many items have to be stored in big boxes or mounted so the garment can be stored in a way that prevents creases. If there are materials in the garment that might off-gas, like plastics and latex, specialty climate-controlled storage for that individual garment might be required. Protein fibers like wools and silks attract pests, etc. etc. etc..
this takes up a lot of space, necessitates specialty facilities, and requires highly-trained specialists. Events like the Met Gala are a huge driver of publicity and revenue for this exhibition which in turn supports the research and conservation work the costume institute does.
AOC’s look wasn’t my fave of the night but I thought it looked nice and fit her personal style well, and I was happy she went with a relatively unknown designer (unlike many other celebs who just went with the old boring standbys) but I also knew as soon as I saw it that all this nonsense was going to happen because the internet abhors nuance.
What I’d give for one of the Cinderella remakes to go into how when you’re in an isolated and abusive situation, sometimes you need to be saved and you’re not weak if you can’t escape by yourself
I’ve never been a fan of bad faith reinterpretations of fairy tales, especially ones which flatten the originals into “princesses is saved by a prince and nothing else”, to then go #girlboss. The princess can save herself because she’s a strong female character!
(Implying if you’re in a bad situation, it’s because you’re not strong enough to get out)
i said what i said
Never had mint chocolate ice cream, ever. I think they don’t sell it here. Or I’ve never noticed it in the store.
It could be the second thing.
I’m actually going to look if they sell it when i go shopping later this week.
There was a new movie coming out that was a gay romantic comedy about an assassin falling in love with the guy he was supposed to kill. The only thing I remember about it other than the premise was that the assassins supposed victim/love interest was going to be played by Daniel Radcliffe.
A mini series (actually a movie released in chapters) with a similar plot to this actually exists (except it’s not starring Daniel Radcliffe). The two main characters are a hitman and an assassin who meet “by accident” in their free time, and they fall in love, but everything is not what it seems.
Unfortunately, due to pirating and illegal sharing of the movie, the small company who made it only made about 1/3 of the production cost as revenue and they lost their main investor due to that, so hopes for a sequel which was considered are small.
It’s a really good movie, with good directing, writing and acting, so if you’re able to purchase it on Vimeo (link is here), I encourage you to do so, it’s only 12$ if you rent it and 13.33$ if you buy it and it’s more than worth it!
I forgot to say that the movie has subtitles in FIVE languages (English, French, Russian, Vietnamese and Korean)!
Important to add and spoiler ahead: THIS👏DOESN'T👏END👏IN👏TRAGEDY👏
The price has been lowered!
wow millennials are glued to their i-phones and laptops so much they cant even be bothered robbing in person anymore!!! maybe these trust fund babies should stop phishing credit cards while sitting on their butts and go out there and put some elbow grease into their thievery!
I know exactly what happened. Because it happened to me.
I trained for years to be a con artist. I told my friends and family that I wanted to be a magician, but that was just a cover for why I was constantly practicing sleight of hand.
In junior high and high school, I would shop lift a bunch of candy on my way to school, sell it to kids at the morning break, and use that money to run a crooked poker game at lunch.
Finally, when I was 19 or 20, I felt I was ready, and I picked my first pocket. I was on the bus, bumped a guy as I passed down the aisle, got his wallet, super clean.
In the wallet was several hundred dollars. A huge first score, I had been hoping for a couple twenties. I sat there looking at the, like, 400 bucks, thinking.
That was my rent at the time. We were both on the bus. It was likely his rent too. Lord knows the only reason to carry that much cash on the bus is you’re on your way to pay a bill. We were both on the bus, you know? That’s not someone I was comfortable stealing from.
I tapped him on the shoulder and told him “hey i think you dropped this” and gave it back to him with all the money still in it. It was the first and last time I ever picked a pocket.
Picking a rich person’s pocket is a loosing game. They probably have credit cards and not cash, those credit cards probably have the best anti-theft measures their bank can provide, and you probably can’t get close enough to those people to pick their pockets unless you’re already rich yourself.
The people who’s pockets you can reliably pick are the people around you. The people who are also on the bus, who are in this same shitty situation with you.
As wealth inequality becomes more drastic picking pockets has very clearly become “stealing from other poor people” and it’s not satisfying. I want to steal from Google and Apple and Fox and Facebook and General Mills and Hershey and Tesla. Not the person next to me.
The city of Philadelphia will pay $2 million to a Black woman who was pulled from a car, beaten by officers and had her toddler used for social media fodder by the police union, officials said.
Nursing aide Rickia Young was headed home in the early morning hours of Oct. 27, 2020, when she unknowingly drove into a large protest over the police killing of Walter Wallace Jr.
She tried to make a three-point turn to get away from the tense scene when officers smashed out her windows with their batons, according to her attorneys.
Young was handcuffed and separated from her teenage nephew and 2-year-old son for several hours, and no one was ever charged or cited, according to the woman’s lawyer. The hearing-impaired toddler lost his hearing aids during the tussle.
The Fraternal Order of Police, the nation’s largest police labor union, posted a Facebook picture two days later showing Young’s toddler in the arms of a Philadelphia police officer just after the incident.
Rutger Bregman is the Dutch historian who became a global sensation after an appearance at this year’s Davos summit, where he accused attending billionaires of ignoring taxation. Now he has created another viral moment in an extremely uncomfortable interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson.
Bregman so riled Carson with his accusations of hypocrisy, critiques of Fox’s conservative agenda, and attacks on Donald Trump that the TV host called him a “moron” and angrily told him: “Go fuck yourself.”
Lot more people around the world are going to watch this now than if it actually aired. Speaking truth to power is the best viral content!
Always re-post this.
This didn’t air so I reblogged to make sure people got to see it anyway.
Spread this like wildfire
this just gave me a glimpse into an alternate reality where human society functions the way carpenter ant society does
We actually have something similar in India. It’s done for the festival of Janmashtami which celebrates the birth of Krishna. The story goes that when he was a baby, Krishna was always getting into pots of yogurt and white butter and just eating it by the handfuls. So his parents and village took to hanging the pots from the ceiling to keep it from him. But he and his friends would get long sticks and climb on each other’s shoulders and steal the pots anyway. So on Janmashtami now, people attempt to recreate his heist and it’s just the most adorable thing.
Castellers from Catalonia found out about this tradition in India, and they thought it was amazing that we had such a similar tradition so far away. So they went to India to meet them. They filmed it all and released it as a documentary on YouTube (called Dahi Handi - Documental viatge a l’India, you can find it easily).
Then in 2006, they invited a team of govindas from India to perform in Vilafranca’s square during their festivities. Vilafranca’s central square, especially during the Sant Fèlix festivities, is the place for castells. It’s the most important center for this tradition (people from Tarragona please don’t kill me for saying this but you know it’s true). And the Vilafranca colla (casteller group) is one of the best and most important ones in all Catalonia, they’re like superstars in the world of castells. So this is a huge honour to be invited by the castellers of Vilafranca. The govindas also received an official welcome in the city hall, and invited to a rehearsal of the Vilafranca castellers. They rehearsed together and then made a tower all together in Vilafranca’s central square, where the Vilafranca castellers were at the base to make the govindas’ structure stronger and higher:
(The ones with white shirt and black trousers are Indian govindas, the ones with white trousers and green shirts are the Catalan castellers from Vilafranca)
Everybody was very happy and the govindas and castellers got along together very well so, in 2019, 200 castellers from Vilafranca (including the mayor, who is a member) went to India to visit them again for the Janmashtami festivity (that @thepivanquisher explained) in Mumbai.
The day they arrived in India, the Vilafranca castellers did some castells in front of the Gateway of India monument, ending with two pilars where the anxenetes (the kids on top) unfolded a flag of India and a flag of Catalonia.
The castellers and govindas also rehearsed together in Mumbai. I’ve seen a video and it’s so lovely, it was in a square of a working class neighbourhood and it was full of people waiting to meet them.
The castellers were also invited to take part in the ritual before Janmashtami, and they were also received by the Islamic community of a neighbourhood of the city. They were very happy to be so well received.
And then the day came:
(That’s govindas doing their tower and behind you can see the Vilafranca castellers, in their usual clothes, cheering for the govindas).
(And that’s the castellers doing their castell after!)
The castellers also performed in a school in the Mumbai and used their rest of the time there to give support to the NGO Mumbai Smiles which helps fight against poverty in the slums.
(The castellers in a school)
Again, they got along very well and were happy to celebrate together their shared passion. They have also learnt from each other: the Catalans showed their method to the Indians so they now can build higher towers, and by looking at how Indians climb they learned how to be faster. That’s why they have invited each other to their countries more times after that.
I think it’s wonderful and I hope to see more of such exchanges 😄
(By the way, we don’t call them “human towers”. In Catalan, “castell” means “castle”. They are human castles, and “castellers”, the people who do it, means “castle-ers” or “castle builders”.)
This. Sharing each others culture and traditions without being condescending or trying to erase the other. This is beautiful
throwback to the time i worked at danny trejo’s donut shop and we had a work meeting and he was there filming b-roll for an msnbc interview he was doing and he complimented my hat that said “ARM TRANS WOMEN DISARM THE POLICE” and then sat down next to me so they could get promo pictures, that was a pretty cool day
then there was the time i ran into tommy wiseau and asked to take a picture and my ex perfectly captured the moment when my face went from absolute glee to the dawning realization that he had randomly decided to start choking me
And to those who say, but second hand books and read them, what about the one who buys a second hand book, reads it, thinks wow how awesome is this i need to find more and starts supporting JK not knowing what an terf asshole she is.
You are still perpetuating the fandom.
It does make me wonder if she was a homophobe, racist, facist etc whether her ‘fans’ would still be like - but you can support the art but not the artist’
She isnt like Lovecraft who everyone knows he was a racist bigot. He is dead, his work is known for it’s time but it’s not affecting current policy, like JK Rowlings work IS.
The UK anti trans bills that came in were also a direct result of HER LOBBYING PARLIMENT.
When you say boys will be boys…
Ok, I looked them up and they’re the Savannah Bananas, a baseball team in the Coastal Plain League and basically their entire marketing strategy is making cute videos? I love them.
They have a dance team that’s all older ladies and they’re called the “Banana Nanas.” It’s amazing.
I love one sports team
This is the best description I’ve heard for this method, I always thought it was bullshit because I never heard a description that actually explained how to do this other than “tap your head 20 times”.
I have anxiety-induced hissing, which sounds/feels different from sound-induced tinnitus (which I have also experience). Sound-based tinnitus actually sounds like you’re “hearing” something in your ears, whilst the hissing I have feels like it’s “inside my head”, if that makes sense. But this technique still helps!!
Here’s a visual I found because I couldn’t understand the instructions well
Update: good for them.
this is getting traction outside the Precure fanbase where I think people are assuming a random anime was namedropped and are posting similar “nerdy” comic strips.
But I want to make clear why this is especially surreal and jarring to me and a lot of other Precure fans: This is an anime franchise that, for all intents and purposes, was almost completely unknown in the West - and hardly legally available at all - until literally last year and in fact I think this might be the very first time Precure has been referenced like this in any Western media…
…and it was in fucking Rex Morgan M.D.
Oh, and one final (wholesome) update:
btw the thing she couldn’t ignore was someone calling her out for saying anti-depressants/hormone therapy are only perscribed by lazy doctors
J.K. Rowling is apparently now filing a defamation lawsuit against someone who made fun of her for saying this, which means its time to spread this like wildfire!
