“Harry witnessed Professor McGonagall walking right past Peeves, who was determinedly loosening a crystal chandelier, and could have sworn he heard her tell the poltergeist out of the corner of her mouth, “It unscrews the other way.”
#this is why the books are better
forget writer’s block. let’s talk about reader’s block. you’re sitting there scrolling through your marked for later, scrolling through your favourite tags, scrolling through your bookmarks, scrolling through your favourite authors’ profiles and no matter what you do you can’t find anything you want to read
even though you are surrounded by things you would love if you could only frickin’ start
Somewhat ironically, I think possibly the most human story about 9/11 is the one about the tree they found in the rubble.
About thirty days or so after the attacks, as rescue workers were trying to clear the wreckage and find the bodies of the dead, they found this little tree branch sticking out, otherwise unremarkable…but it still had leaves. And do you know what they did?
They dug out this tree. They dug this burnt and blackened tree out of the pile, took it out of the city and re-planted it to give it a chance to survive. To grow back. Just because they saw these leaves. And by some miracle, it did, and ten years later they brought this now 30-foot-tall tree back to lower Manhattan to plant it in the memorial at ground zero. They brought the tree home.
And is that just not…the most human fucking thing? These guys saw this one thing in that pile that was still alive, and they said dammit, we’re gonna save this little tree. We can’t save anything else, but we’re gonna save this tree. And they did.
Say what you want about people, but I truly believe we are good at heart.
“9/11 was a severe tragedy that shook america to the core and was such a devastating event that ruined not only the lives of the 3,000 people who died, but all of their family and friends” and “9/11 isnt an excuse to attack or treat muslims like shit as the majority of those who are muslim believe in non violence and peace and the actions of a few awful people isnt an accurate depiction of a whole community that contains millions of people” are two mindsets that can exist at once.
sometimes a family is an overachiever running from the police, the most sarcastic (and coolest) mom friend you’ve ever met, a punk rock pilot who just wants to be loved, a lonely and mean bisexual, a “chosen one” from the past who refuses to swear, a tiny lesbian supergenius, and a hot alien warrior elf with family issues
and that’s ok
At what point did Dumbledore go like:
Screw the fashionable, gray flattering suit.
We gonna go with purple robes and pointy hats
I like to headcanon that his decision to wear robes and change the Hogwarts uniform to robes as an increasingly senile geezer influenced the rest of Wizarding Britain so strongly that it became high fashion. The rest of the magical world thinks the Brits are nuts.
Newt : …Why do you have a copy of my wanted poster framed in your living room?
Theseus : Because it’s bloody hilarious.
Theseus : It says : ‘most menacing and extremely dangerous’.
Theseus : It’s sort of like seeing a fluffy bunny with a spiked collar.
Newt : …I hate you so much.
Remus: so… do you think sirius likes me?
Marlene: he would die for you
Peter: he makes heart eyes at you all the time
Lily: he literally became an unregistered animagi for you
James: you’re literally married
Remus: but does he like me?
hi! um, i was wondering and you totally don’t have to answer this if you don’t want, but i need some advice on names. i’ve figured out that i’m trans for about 2 years now and i have legit no idea what to name myself!!!! and i really hate my dead name :(. idk how it’s supposed to feel when the name fits and i’ve really never been happy with one. i’m this close to just putting it in a random number picker and just sticking with one. :/
So first of all, there’s never a set time you have to choose a name (and trans ppl don’t have to change names at all), but I totally understand if you want to change it because your deadname makes you uncomfortable - mine certainly did!
I honestly just looked at a lot of baby name lists and experimented with different ones to see what fit me best. You can try going by a name for a bit to see if you like it. There are also websites, such as pronoun dressing room, where you can try this out if you don’t feel comfortable doing it in real life.
I hope you find a name that you feel comfortable with!
All my love,
