Would I lose a friend over a difference of opinion in politics? No.
But I would lose a friend over a difference in ethics, morality, justice, integrity, the rule of law, and common human decency. Some lines can’t be crossed. There are some things too wrong to be overlooked. There are words, beliefs and behaviors too dangerous to be ignored.
If your political opinion supports racism, bigotry, homophobia, transphobia etc, then no, we can’t be friends.
this literally translates to I’m anti social in indian scenario. FML
YEA. i had a relationship with someone and she dropped the “te amo” super quicky and i was like…………”thats ok, thank you, but im gonna be honest w you….i’m not saying te amo until i really feel it” thats how serious it is.
te amo IS very serious, very deep, very intimate. when you want to tell someone that you love them without it being massive, the term you want is te quiero
cant believe no one had contributed this
Same for German imho?!??? Ich liebe dich is THE confession. You don’t drop it in a joking way.
It might just be me, but I wouldn’t randomly pepper Я люблю тебя into conversation either. It feels… too much.
Maybe it is the English one that is weird
I tell my close friends “I love you” all the time. I think It’s different if I were to say “I’m in love with you”.
In these non-English languages, do parents not tell their children “I love you?” Or is it only romantic?
Oh, I’m monolingual but I know a bit about this one! :D
So, in a lot of languages, there are multiple verbs that mean, “to love,” which are each situational, while, in English, we derive the meaning through context
Like, “Te quiero,” refers to love for friends and family, aka platonic love, while , “Te amo,” or, “Ai shiteru,” in Japanese, is so achingly tender and romantic that you might as well write the other person a receipt for your heart, because it’s theirs now
At some point, English did have multiple verbs for, “to love,” but eventually English speakers decided, “to hell with it, I only want 1 broad term for these big mushy feelings,” because we hate having multiple words for things almost as much as we hate punctuation
TL;DR: cultures that are non-English speaking do tell their kids they love them, they just have multiple words that mean, “To love,” and English is the odd man out because it got tired of that and went
not familiar with any Lang other than Spanish. Te amo to a gringo literally translates to you are being loved by me. I realized what it really meant, in I love you the subject is I and hence the focus too. but in Spanish emphasis is on you, that it’s YOU who is loved by me. I wanted to die from the beautiful realisation.
I tried but could not get hold of groups where you can discuss about books you are reading so imma gonna rant about this book -Sapiens by Y. N. Harrari.
I haven’t even completed it and am literally floored by its findings which are just observations of the eons and so.
for example - “ Gender is a race in which some of the runners compete only for bronze medal.”
This statement is made cause there is literally no valid reason for gender stereotypes to be where they are. This was one of those lines which had me undecided. Did I want there a reason for so much discrimination? But there isn’t. And now I am heart broken over the fact that it’s all a scam.
earlier in the book, it literally showed that one of the major revolution - the agricultural revolution was a TRAP. We as homo - sapiens were a mere scapegoat to it.
Moreover, I also realized the importance, the dominance of fiction, myth in our lives. Did you’ll knew the basic difference between us and chimpanzees - its this - humans can spew stories and ardently, without any logic, believe in them while chimpanzees can’t.
i hate it when men make fun of women for being vain. like you’ve structured society in such a way that we spend our entire lives chasing after the fleeting moments where we really and truly feel good about our appearances and then have the audacity to mock us for trying to “look pretty” like you’re constantly telling us to? shut the fuck up.
“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.” ― John Berger, Ways of Seeing
I have wasted one year (close to one and a half) as I wasn’t able to get in a college due to my non studiousness, my non richness and my inability to do something which goes against my parents approval.
I have overthinked about what I did and most importantly what I didn’t do to feel such a waste of space time and feelings. Now when I have finally found my way to independency it occurred to me last night that THIS was the exact thing I asked for many months ago.
It was our batch farewell and there was this cliché competition to decide the ONE student. In one of the basic rounds where they ask general questions, I was asked if you had had the power what is that one thing you absolutely wished to do. Since at that time I was living far away from my parents for academic reasons for 6 years and I have a superpower of saying absolute shit when I am on stage(or in limelight) my reply was that I wanna live with them.
EVERYTHING and I do mean Everything just made a freefall from that moment in my life.
So yeah, even if you desperately wish for anything rn make sure you will stick to it or at worst won’t regret your decision over it.
#rant #i know nobody cares #also I didn't qualified that round #ughh #Sorry if you read it all #a moment of clarity #just a teenager
Mom: You don’t shave your legs OR your armpits? Me: No Mom: Are you serious? Personal hygiene! Me: Yeah? Personal hygiene? Then make my brother shave too.
That fact that this is actually getting notes is so beautiful, man.
I actually told this to my mom when she told me to shave. She said that it was different for my older brother to grow hair because he was a boy I just kinda stared at her for a minute
🚨shaving is not hygienic it’s cosmetic🚨
I cant shave down to the skin bc it actually hurts my skin but even with trimmed body hair, i STILL get the ~~personal hygiene~~ bullshit. I am clean, my body hair is clean, there’s nothing gross about clean hair. To reiterate:
Shaving is not hygiene, it’s cosmetic
If I’m not mistaken but it’s more useful to have bodial hair. Other than that the only reason you’d shave at all is a tactile thing.
wiping out every tear that I promised was the last with the same prayer upon my lips. Even when I don’t believe in the existence of god. To make me brave, if not the most then a little more than yesterday. To give me the courage to look them straight in the eye, without flinching back and pronounce that I don’ abhor them for their deeds or thoughts nor I enjoy being on what is called the right side but they are as wrong as they exist. Lest that courage comes with an understanding of a human mind.
