Yasha really said she thinks about that time in the Cathedral everyday and how she didn’t know what she would had done if something had happened to Beau that day.
And she said that to Beau’s face…… and then she gave Beau the poem…. Adios
i know i said it already but this is the funniest possible plot twist to me. i’m living holy shit. vess “i think i’m smart enough to kill god” derogna getting killed completely offscreen is so good holy shit. she’s an archmage of the cerberus assembly! she’s one of the most powerful wizards on the continent! and she gets this nothing death, an absolutely ignoble end. like fuck!! what good was all your knowledge!! what good was all your power!! you had no one and it got you nothing in the end!!
what i love most about this scene is every last shuddering breath dani takes as she works up the courage to simply express her gratitude and appreciation for jamie. you can see dani giving herself internal pep talks at various points!! she is scared. she is terrified. but she doesn’t want to let these new and confusing and exciting feelings slip past her without even trying. an entire universe’s worth of emotions is conveyed in this exchange.
it might be old news but is there any moment in beau and yasha’s story that hits quite like when yasha–still undoubtedly shellshocked from the trauma of the past two months, of isolation and abuse and being forced to hurt her friends–sees beau fall under a strike from the tentacle of that demented thing her tormenter has been turned into, and in what is almost certainly a moment of awful clarity just forgets about fighting and runs to her. scoops her up, turns her shoulders just in time to shield her and take the lash from the tentacle across her own back, grits her teeth and carries beau into the only place of relative shelter she can find and just holds her unconscious body for the last moments of the battle, helpless to stop her from bleeding out and not knowing that her actions literally saved beau’s life
