REBIRTH after the DEATH of the outage.
(something I wrote in December 2015)
The dead body, brought to life again in the new year. A resurrection, of the character that lies within those images and locations. How would you bring that into the brief? An attempt of the artist herself to make sense of the past- and to link it to the present.
But also- life story as fiction- as the starting point of ANOTHER life, that is NOT my own. A life to be ‘based’ on- based on a true story. Gifting, giving away the raw materials of someone else’s life, and using them to create what could at a stretch, even be seen as an ENCRYPTED versions; a mix of fiction and facts so that the distinctions; become pointless; an incoherent narrative made coherent by my own role in it.
This character is at a turning point in her life; questioning what is next. These videos are dreams or they are flashbacks; or they are happening now. Her life feels like it is NOT HER OWN- she may be trying to reclaim it, trying to reconnect to older versions of herself; the scene you are writing may be BASED on any point in the writer’s life, but it is happening now; she will film it in the present tense, wherever she happens to be.
It’s not about telling a TRUTH about the artists and her life, it’s about using these as a starting point to explore a sense of fragmentation and how that can actually be productive- the fragmented subject is less easily read, less easily understood.
That way, she retains a certain type of privacy- her profile no longer COMPUTES, and that is potentially a useful fact. How can she scramble her profile- and who is she it doing it for? Which audience is it that is 'following’ or cares?
