Remember that every mountain exists because of a valley or crater of some sort. Every negative has the potential to create a positive, and every positive relies on a negative to exist. They are interdependent. So the next time a negative event occurs in life, we should embrace it and thank it for offering an opportunity for positivity to flourish.

Climbing has always come naturally to me- weird since heights is a fear of mine. For some reason natural heights don’t affect me in the same way that man-made heights do. Instead the heights that a mountainside provide revitalize my soul and re-energize my mind.

Climbing is a part of my path, whether it is hiking up a mountain or bouldering up rocks, or just ascending up a tree, that is where you will find me- with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face.

Sometimes we have to look our fears directly in the eye to overcome them. For me, my fear of heights is second only to my fear of failure. Today I am practicing facing my fears head on. I am attempting to relinquish fear’s control over me by accepting that at times I will fail, and that each failure is just another step toward my ultimate success. Being grateful is essential to leading a fulfilled life. All too often we spend our time worrying about what we don’t have in life, or where we are lacking. Next time you start to feel that way, I challenge you to instead turn your attention towards something that you are truly grateful for. Smile at yourself more. It’s good to be always growing- wanting growth is natural. But beware of judging yourself too harshly or prematurely. As important as growth is, it can become an obsession that is as unhealthy as decay and deterioration. So remember even as you strive toward being your best self, you will hit bumps in the road- and next time one of these bumps appear, just smile at yourself and give yourself a break. #fleckofpaint
