hot take but it’s actually not progressive or helpful when people vehemently insist over and over freddie was bisexual despite the fact he identified as a gay man and everyone he loved, the people who knew him better than anyone, also say hey he indeed identified as a gay man in his private life and to say otherwise in the name of bisexual exposure and acceptance is… toxic?? like this man took time like most lgbtq ppl in finding himself and accepting himself and for ppl to erase that journey he went thru like? it’s just something that boggles my mind. you think because he was with Mary, you know him better than himself and his friends and family (INCLUDING MARY)??
what about the fact it was and still is common for people to date ppl of the opposite sex for short or long periods of time before accepting that they’re gay and finally living as their authentic self?
Like what gets me is y’all KNOW that this happens. this isn’t news. and lots of y’all have experienced this, too. you KNOW that having past experiences with one gender doesn’t define your sexuality. the ppl you’ve slept with, the ppl you’ve dated— that’s not what defines your identity now. you know that damn well. but in the case of Freddie Mercury, ppl turn their backs to all of that and suddenly!! his relationships (specifically his relationship with Mary) automatically means he was bisexual and fuck whatever his loved ones said, fuck what he identified as. as long as we get to use him as our bisexual icon, FUCK his life and who he was.
what’s it actually proving? what is erasing his sexuality actually doing to help anyone or anything?
