That anon that explained the M!A thing meant by unlockable is about some items that doesnt unlock by themselves you are not the only one that got here at least once Those people have to be in charge of unlocking those items by beating certain bosses or beating challenges.
((I’ve been staring at this for awhile now and I am struggling to think of a proper response I could make for the muse that doesn’t get things stuck in an endless “explaining video game logic” loop. So I’m going to just explain it myself here))
((The way items come into existence in this version of the basement is via long term exposure. Essentially, the longer you are in the basement the more the basement will take old memories and turn them into items/monsters/everything else. Every death and drop of blood “feeds” the basement, giving it more energy to create traps for the one’s inside that’ll give it more “food” for itself. Though because the kids have to actually be doing stuff, it often takes a good few attempts for anything to show up))
((Thus, why kids like Isaac have a lot of items based on their personal life, being the first one to arrive. While someone like Job, who is very new to the place, has little to no items that take from his experiences.))
((What this comes down to is that any “hurdles” like defeating end game bosses besides Dogma/The Beast means nothing to the overall structure of the basement other than keeping the kids trapped inside for longer. It’s a big, complicated mess as the basement as an entity is very odd and hard for me to explain in a concise manner. This rule doesn’t apply for all the items that can be found, but it is a good rule of thumb))
((I really hope this doesn’t come off as rude, as I don’t intent to push aside your question as dumb because I don’t think it is /gen))
((It’s just a question that would be hard for Job to answer because the only two people who knows this information is Apollyon and The Lost. Apollyon because they’ve been here since the basement’s beginnings. The Lost because they’ve also been here for quite awhile, but not nearly as long. Some kids like Isaac and Judas know too, but its a base level understanding of “Wow a lot of these items sure do hold a lot of my emotional trauma for some reason”))
