A painting of the goddess Nut that I’ve been working on for a little while now and finally managed to finish. I’m very pleased with the result (especially her hair!) Please don’t repost the painting or remove this caption.
#racism#yeah #kids definitely need early education about prejudice #my daughter got called a witch in kindergarten because of her black hair and pale skin #because movie villains often look like me and my daughter #while princesses are often blonde #i can't even imagine how shitty people are to non white kids
This blog will be dedicated to the #StopTheShock campaign and will include survivors’ stories and action points to help fight this decision and stop the torture of autistic people.
For a current list of action points, head over to the AuTeach website. PLEASE REBLOG and spread the word, even if you are not autistic, and follow this blog for updates.
Just to clear up some misconceptions I have seen elsewhere: This is not the same as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). This is a device called a graduated electronic decelerator (GED) worn on the ankle which is used to administer remote electric shocks as a form of corporal punishment.
There is a group of people who are fighting a legal battle to be allowed to shock disabled children simply for displaying traits related to their disability. And they are winning.
Two of my favourite things about animal behaviour studies:
1. It’s a recognised phenomenon that if you’re working with some of the more intelligent critters, sometimes they’ll figure out what you’re testing for and start
deliberately providing the “wrong” response to every single test.
2. The researcher who’s writing up the paper is not allowed to say “clearly the little bastards are just fucking with us”, because that would be inappropriately anthropomorphising the subjects, but you can 100% tell that they’re thinking it.
do you guys wanna hear the latest drama among librarians across the country
Ask and I shall deliver
Okay so the latest drama is apparently there is a man calling across random libraries across the country and he’s asking for information on a court case specifically Brady v Maryland and when he calls he claims he doesn’t have a computer so he asks for the case to be read aloud to him
Here’s the thing. He is asking for uh not legal reasons but umm because he well….he well…he’s yknow 😳 And he’s called multiple libraries and done this and the FBI is supposedly involved and can’t catch this pervert that’s just calling libraries and getting off on librarians reading about some random court case
And apparently the dude called my work! And I wasn’t there for it but they put him on hold cause they were like “is it him…” so they got a male coworker to answer the phone and he immediately hung up and like hdjdhsjshhs?!? What is happening!!
I TALKED TO HIM. He is absolutely masturbating while you read the court case. He has hit MULTIPLE libraries ACROSS the country. He’s called my library twice and another local library last week.
So if you get a blocked number asking you to read Brady v Maryland wiki article while he “writes it out by hand,” hang up. Log it, tell your managers.
Links to just one of the ALA facebook posts about it, for evidence if you need to email your bosses:
The Borneo Eared Frog(Ploypedates otilophus) also known as the Eared Tree Frog inhabits lowland rainforests.
The species is easily identified by its large size and by the prominent ridges which lie above the eye and external ear-drum.
Its dorsal surface is pale yellow brown adorned with dark brown stripes. The flanks show similar colour and patterning but the dark stripes are more thin. On the inner thighs and legs there is strong black banding on a white background. Its eyes are large with a horizontal iris.
love that this caused so much controversy the thread needed to be locked. over chicken sandwich
gang this does not even scratch the surface
Someone posted a picture of a piece of chicken between two hamburger buns titled “Chicken Burger” to /r/food. Another user commented “Chicken Sandwich” on the post, and was slapped with a 30 day ban by the mods. When they responded to ask why, the mod said
“Correcting someone in public is public shaming, on top of being incorrect, it’s a pretty shitty comment to leave.”
So now /r/food is on lockdown after being spammed with posts titled “Chicken Sandwich” and other variations. The mod that handed the ban down pinned a post doubling down, comparing the situation to “Pride posts that always fill up with bigots” and “removing racists from posts featuring POC”, and including a link on “how to correctly, correct someone.”
because someone commented “Chicken Sandwich” on a post titled “Chicken Burger”.
I went and commented “Chicken Burger” on a chicken sandwich post and the moderators called me unoriginal and lacking civility and deleted it lmao
Cephalopods, including octopuses, are mollusks. They’re close cousins to slugs, snails, mussels and scallops. An octopus is a little like a normal mollusk turned inside-out. It has a soft body, and its shell has been reduced to two small plates where its head muscles anchor, plus a powerful, parrot-like beak.
Octopuses feel slightly squishy, but also quite strong and muscley. They also feel velvety and slippery at the same time. Their suction cups are really strong and grippy!
#monterey bay aquarium #cephalopod week #twisted wonderland azul #azul ashengrotto#gawd dammit #Azul has me searching out info on octopuses #and honestly I also searched a bit on eels thanks to Jade and Floyd #but I'm way more into the octopus #twisted Wonderland please show me what Azul looks like when he's not overblotted #i know this is unlikely with his body insecurity though #poor baby octopus #when i found out about people trying to body shame him because he's not fat like ursula #i was pissed #poor Azul can't win
Ugh! I hate how much I am attracted to these 3 mermen! They’re basically just the damn aquatic mafia, and I am extremely empathetic to Azul, because I’ve been there dude, but they’re all awful people. Ursula, Flotsam and Jetsam have never looked so good. 😂
But damn they’re all so sexy and stylish! I love the colors and style of their dorm uniforms and their dorm has huge tanks and pretty colors and I love aquariums. I wish these bad boys weren’t so pretty! 😭
#octavinelle #twisted wonderland azul #Twisted Wonderland#azul ashengrotto #twisted wonderland jade #jade leech #twisted wonderland floyd #floyd leech #why are they all soooo sexy?!? #i don't want to be attracted to any of these bad boys #and I'm usually not remotely attracted to the bad boys #but maybe mer people are all fucking hot??? #i wish they at least didn't dress in such sexy dorm uniforms #and in my favorite colors too #dammit azul #if he had turned out differently he'd genuinely be competition for Malleus in my heart #little mermaid#nsfw #this game is gorgeous #and almost all of the students are gorgeous too #if i were really a student I'd be in real trouble lol
Sending death threats to users testing the post+ feature? Unfollow me. It’s not uncommon for people in the LGBTQ+ community to receive death threats. If any of my followers stoop so low as to send one out themselves, unfollow this blog. What the fuck are you doing? Voice your concerns about this new feature in a healthy and civilized way, so this feature can either be discontinued or improved upon.
If you’re a fanfiction author and you haven’t done this already, start backing up all of your fics on a Google Drive.
When Post+ goes live (it will despite the backlash - Tumblr is owned by Automattic who also owns WordPress), it’s going to be mass purge of fandom accounts.
You’ve probably already seen the posts going around stating that if you make fanworks, you legally cannot monetize. As soon as the idiots at Automattic realize this, they’re going to purge fan creators. Why? Because they’re also going to be dealing with lawsuits, not just the creators.
And they can write out all of the rules and terms and warnings they want before a user signs up for Post+, but that isn’t gonna stop all of the fandom babies from Wattpad coming in thinking they can make money off of writing fanfiction. So the solution? Shadow banning all people who create for fandoms, driving us into a dark corner, and ultimately kicking us off the platform so it can bring in more outsiders and normies, therefore becoming more appealing to investors and advertisers.
I’ve got most of my work already on Google Drive for my blogs, but I’m also working on exporting this and my other blog as well. If this Post+ shit leads to my blogs getting purged I’m Chibitami on AO3. Hopefully staff will back out of this and it won’t lead to yet another repository of fan content getting purged but I can never be optimistic when it comes to this site’s management lol
This is honestly really heartbreaking given I don’t want to move, but I care about making sure my work’s safe and still accessible to read. So I’ll be backing them all up and moving my fics to Ao3 and Wattpad. They’re both Just-Swirly.
This has got my husband so upset. Now he is demanding to know what the telegraph infrastructure was like in 19th century Japan.
OKay so after some help from tumblr to clarify my research questions this is not possible.
Japanese immigrants began to arrive on Hawaii (which admittedly wasn’t annexed yet) as early as the 1860s, and a few might have arrived on the mainland with the Chinese railroad workers and gold rushers in 1849+ -From @OvenRoastedTwerky it was not until late 1902 that President
The issue is that we can only confirm the 1860′s immigration and then pretty much just to Hawaii. Also there was no Trans-pacific cable at the time.
Theodore Roosevelt granted the Pacific Cable Company permission to lay a line between San Francisco and Honolulu -Source US house .gov
So this would have required a Japanese Samurai on the mainland. And I’m fairly certain this never came close to happening.
I don’t know why this got me so upset. But now I feel I have closure and can move on with my life.
Interiors of Barrington Court, Somerset, an unfurnished Tudor house, built mostly in the 1550s. It was one of the first properties to be acquired by the National Trust (in 1907).
I visit here every summer and it is so gorgeous - not only the rooms but the gardens are so beautiful. I believe one of the Gardens were designed by Gertrude Jekyll? But anyhow, the rooms are amazing, and if you’re in the area I cannot recommend it enough :)
