Watching another drama with Yoo Jin-tae. He is quite a versatile actor. My education about Japanese occupation of Korea continues. In 1919, during the Japanese colonial period, two events paved the way for the independence of Korea, the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. And with it, a covert armament for freedom was born, the Heroic Corps. Historically and in the drama, the man leading the corps goes by the name of Kim Won Bong, his real name only a few people know. He rarely stays in one area for more than two hours and sleeps for only short periods at a time. With fiery passion in his heart, he moves about swiftly and dreams for his country’s independence. The female protagonist is a Korea woman adopted by a Japanese military doctor. She becomes the first female doctor in Joseon.
Currently watching The Good Detective. Underrated, but extremely good detective drama. On par with Stranger! Amazing characters and excellent acting. It’s interesting to watch it through cross-cultural comparative lense.
Park Min Young as Chae Young Shin in Healer (secret santa for @kdramakitty 💫)
My all time favorite movie. I liked Park Min Young in other dramas (e.g., Her Private Life), but here she is showing a much wider range of her acting skills
Started watching When my love blooms. The drama got some mixed reviews, but I find it beautiful and interesting. It’s a slow moving drama but somehow the pace is very soothing although there is lots of angst in the show. I like the parallels—romantic and political—between the protagonists’ past and present. As I watch, I also read about the history of student protests in Korea. I found the drama because I wanted to see more of You Ji-take whom I found intriguing in Healer.
Took a break from Korean dramas and watched Young Wallander over the long weekend. The series received many criticisms that it has only one Swedish actor and was not filmed in Sweden but apparently in Lithuania. I liked it, the story line was gripping and the narrative arc interesting. But then I am always interested in movies and novels portraying refugees and immigrants.
Currently reading. It’s a book about the banality of evil that is systematic and systematic misogyny. It’s difficult to read, not because the writing is difficult but because it is so disturbing. The writing is very cold and clinical. Often compared to Kafka’s Metamorphosis because Jiyoung, like Gregor Samsa, feels so overwhelmed by social expectations that there is no room for her in her own body; her only option is to become someone else. We see her taking on different personalities to escape the situation she is forced into as a young mother. As one reviewer wrote, despite its prosperity, technological advances and coolness factor, when it comes to gender equality, Korea is no Finland.
Watched several of these (#). Liked The King: Eternal Monarch but found Lee Min Ho very wooden. Don’t quite understand the hype he generated. Loved both CLOY and It’s okay to not be okey. They were very different and yet got my attention.

A Year of K-Dramas. Part II. There were lots of new outstanding dramas. Particularly memorable was Oh Jung-se as Moong Sang-tae. I saw him in other dramas, but in this role he has outdone himself.

Polish Herring with Sour Cream (Śledź w śmietanie)
Herring is very popular in Poland at any time of year, but it’s also served at Christmas Eve. The most popular preparations are classic herring fillets (soused, usually called matjas) in oil, or with cream, sour apples and chopped onions, usually served with potatoes.
A year of K-dramas Part I: It started with Rookie Historian, followed by CLOY… and I was down the rabbit hole following different genre (historical, romantic, police procedural) and favorite actors.

Magical and peaceful Christmas to all my followers! Get lots of interesting books, enjoy your Kdramas or Nordic Noir or whatever your choice of entertainment might be. Stay safe!
Why are you always hurt? Beats me. Maybe I do seek attention. I saw your photo, it was taken at your house. I thought you didn’t have one. I only do on days like this.
I liked everything about her. Her breathing sound and her smell up close. Her weird hairstyle and clothes she threw together without much effort. Everything about her seemed perfect. I just liked her.
