I have so many feelings about this, but they boil down to the same frustrated rage I’ve had for a year or more.
It’s so predictable it’s not even funny
Like. You don’t have to write Nile or Andy in your fic if you’re gonna treat them like shit. If Andy’s only role will be to be mean and callous and insensitive when she’s nothing like that in canon, you don’t have to put her in your fic. If Nile is there only to stand in the background and make one funny comment and nothing else, if she has no personality then you don’t have to put her in your fic. If you’re gonna kill her off camera and have her name be dropped once in a dialogue then wth would you write her and use her tag and make me have to look at that. If Quynh is only there to be the evil and immoral character that hurts your fav for some whump, you can literally write a generic bad guy and not demonize a traumatized and hurt woman. It’s that easy, you can just not write them and not make the fans of those characters have to read your shitty fics where you treat them like dirt and an after thought (at best). I know we’ve been complaining about this for months now but all I ask is proper tagging so I don’t have to look at shit like that when I’m browsing the tags
The Old Guard (2020), dir. Gina Prince-Bythewood
[image description: two gifs of Andy from the old guard movie with white subtitles. Andy is a white woman with short dark hair that falls asymmetrically into her face. She is wearing a denim jacket over a black shirt. She is sitting on a hill made up of tan rock in sizes ranging from small sand grains to chunks as big as a hand. Andy has her knees pulled up and both elbows propped up on her knees. Her hands meet in the space between her knees, the left hand on top of the right. In the first gif she looks to the left, her face in profile. She speaks intensely, punctuating her words with angry bobs of her head. The white subtitle reads: “the world isn’t getting any better”. In the second gif she turns to the right slightly, her face becoming a three quarters view, and glares intently upwards as she finishes speaking. The white subtitle reads: “it’s getting worse”. End description.]
MY KID FELL ASLEEP READING THE D&D DUNGEON MASTER’S GUIDE 😭😭😭
thinking about the dynamic between the self-made cynic and the bleeding heart
the self made cynic; created with bared teeth and bloodied knuckles. clawed their way out of hell and didn’t come out quite human. every thing about them is a carefully constructed persona - you can’t hurt someone who doesn’t exist, and they will never be hurt again. faithless through and through. the only savior they believe in is themselves.
the bleeding heart, on the other hand is fundamentally incapable of being anything other than themself. they love the way an open wound does. it’s hemorrhagic and contagious. faithful to a fault. they will jump without hesistation, though they’ll hit the ground consumed with guilt.
first world problem as fuck but on the few occasions I get to eat ~~~adventurously~~~ in this town I want to fucking SCREAM
there’s only a handful of places that even say their shit is gluten free, I spent twenty minutes on DoorDash trying to find ONE that is still open and I struck out, my husband suggested the tiny taco place up the road, I tried to call in an order and their answering machine says they don’t TAKE call in orders?? how fucking nice for you, you microbrew hipsters???? jesus christ I’m so hangry
Nile stamps down a flare of anger and takes a slow, steadying breath. She says, “What do I have to know to save them?”
me @ my brain: hey look you’re almost done with the Star Wars crossover! only a chapter and a half to go! you can do it! stay on target!
my brain, already itching to write the spinoff from Yusuf’s POV:
so now that I’ve outlined it, this one is gonna be at least 10k god help me, and I have great news about the ending
Only when her vision dims does Nile remember she also has to breathe in. She tears her gaze away from the two of them to make sure Yusuf sees this impossible thing too. His eyes say he does.
She adopts a scowl to give her face something to do beside twitching at the intolerable sensation of being perceived.
He sees what Andromache is doing and makes the universal gesture for what the hell? She maintains eye contact and keeps on guzzling.
Just as they pass into the shadow of the freighter, Nile sees a forked rifle barrel peeking over the edge of the bay’s open roof.
