The Kryptonian Spartan Project
Clark Kent had never seen his adoptive mother so angry with him. Her words were still printed deeply in his mind.
‘Whether you like it or not, that boy is your child. I don’t care how he was created, he’s my grandson! You can’t run away from this.’
The last time he saw him, the infant boy was wrapped in his cap, held protectively in the Amazon’s arms. She was humming in her native tongue, he did not understand everything but he recognised a children song.
Clark still viewed the boy as a it instead of a he. It had been artificially created: a clone made of his and Diana’s DNA. He was not being fair to Conner — what Diana named the toddler — because the clone was innocent.
Why did he run away? Truth be told, he was afraid of Conner, afraid of who he was and what he could become: a weapon, that was what Brainiac — the architect behind the Kryptonian Spartan Project — sought, the perfect weapon. Brainiac … another element from the Kryptonian legacy who came to invade, Zod was the first one.
The aftermaths of two Kryptonian invasions were unpleasant: a billion human deaths, getting the title of Alien Tyrant and his Amazon Whore, governments were afraid of him, an enemy of the Justice League led by a billionaire…
He could not let them down. Hippolyta was right when she called him a coward. She stopped him from committing a terrible mistake, the same woman who used to be against the mere idea of her smitten daughter holding hands with the Child of the Stars.
He thought about Diana. She was still too young for this, so was he, they were in their early twenties. Unlike him, she accepted Conner with no trouble — he was her son, her flesh and blood, there was no room for argument.
Diana was his everything. She was no longer the naïve eighteen year-old girl who had a crush on him, he was not the immature nineteen year-old boy who wanted to lose his virginity with the hottest girl in the world and take hers. Four years had gone by, they were now young adults in love. They founded a solid relationship built upon years of dating. Hippolyta was even teasing him with original ideas to propose to her daughter. Now, he could be jeopardising his relationship with his girlfriend, he could not allow that.
When Superman flew back to Smallville, he found Diana and Conner sleeping peacefully in his old bedroom.
One year later, the world had not seen Superman and Wonder Woman. Meanwhile, Clark Kent, his wife Diana Kent, and his son Conner Kent, were living in Smallville.
