People gotta stop making asexuality/aromantiscism seem like identities that need “extra thought” put into them, or are “unhealthy” to identify as or treating them differently than other labels in general. For example:
-stop equating them with internalized homophpbia
-stop equating them with “talking about your sex life”
-stop claiming that it’s bad for anyone under 18 to identify with them
-stop claiming that they’re inheritingly associated with an underlying problem, such as mental illness
-stop calling them modifyers
-stop claiming that aro/ace headcanons/canon are “infantilizing” characters
Bonus: stop equating asexuality with “not fucking” celibacy and asexuality are not the same
even if some people used to identify as aspec because of internalized homophobia, that doesn’t mean every aspec person is secretly gay, like how some gay people who used to identify as bi but that doesn’t make actual bisexuality/romanticism any less valid.
there are even some aspecs who used to id as gay before realizing they are, in fact, aspec.
i used to identify as both demiromantic and greyromantic until i realized it was internalized arophobia that kept me from accepting that i will probably never feel romantic attraction, and that i was just trying to cling onto any chance of me being “alloromantic”—which is a bit odd cause demiromantic and greyromantic aren’t, by any means, allo. but that doesn’t mean anyone using those labels are harmful, like, it’s not their fault i dealt with internalized arophobia.
