BTS: [Loud indistinct chatter]
Yoongi: [clears throat]
Zhang Zhehan taking every opportunity to fix Gong Jun’s hair | Us finally realizing that if we didn’t have Zhang Zhehan we never would have gotten this scene because he came up with it omfg
Bonus: Director’s Reaction
1. “Why am I the Director? I should just retire and leave this to Zhehan, he’s got it well in hand.”
2. “That seems like a good idea.”
I can’t let go of this scenario where everyone and Spock thinks he and Jim are dating, but Jim has no idea.
Late night chess matches over candlelight? Jim’ll send Yoeman Rand to fix Spock’s lights later. Spock giving Jim affectionate glances and smiles throughout shift? Jim’s just glad Spock isn’t gonna choke him against the console again. Near constant handholding? Nothing wrong with two bros showing how much they care. T’hy’la? No idea what that means, but Uhura gets all giggly when Spock says it, so it must be an insult.
Like Bones could go up to Jim and be “hey what are you getting Spock for your anniversary?” And Jim would be like “anniversary of what?” and then Bones would roll his eyes and say “since you tricked that poor alien into giving you the time of day, what do you think I’m talking about?” and Jim needs a couple of hyposprays to stay conscious
But then Jim is like “shit I haven’t done a single romantic thing this whole time and Spock deserves better” so Jim pulls out all the stops and woos the fuck out of his alien bf. The real kicker is that Spock doesn’t know until years later that for months Jim had no fucking clue they were together
I thought I could figure out the referent, but no. I can’t. Which murdered British boys? Someone go back and ask that elderly neighbor or I’ll never be able to sleep again.
King Edward V of England and Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York! They were murdered by their uncle!
She… she does
You know what I’m a slut for? When a character visibly drops a ruse. Like, the way their face changes the moment they give up a facade and reveal themselves.
This applies to revealing love, apathy, anger, evil intent. I mcfuckin love it.
When I compare this ending to 160 it really just comes up short. 160 was an emotionally powerful moment that also MAKES SENSE. which is WHY it’s emotionally powerful. 160 makes you go “OMG! OHHHHH! NOW I GET IT! OH NO!” This ending just made me go “huh???? what??? why are they doing that?? Oh that’s it? Ok then.” 160 felt like a much more fitting and better plotted and built up ending for a cosmic horror tragedy show. For me S5 never really justified its existence.
Ngl I’m gonna be really disappointed if TMA doesn’t have a “Nineteen Years Later” epilogue where Jon and Martin are seeing their children Sasha Gertrude and Tim Elias off at Kings Cross to stay with Aunties Mel & Georgie and Jon has a heart-to-heart with his son where he’s like “Tim Elias I named you after the sassiest twinks I know, you hold unfathomable queer power that your enemies could never comprehend,”
MDSZ characters and the curse word they vibe with
Wei Wuxian: throws around “fuck” like it’s a normal adjective
Lan Wangji: has never said it out loud but called Su She a “cunt” in his head whenever he saw him
Jiang Cheng: same as WWX but says “motherfucker” instead
Jiang Yanli: people think she does not swear but she accidentally burnt something while cooking once and quietly mumbled “oh shit”
Jin Zuxian: says “that asshole” instead of people’s names
MianMian: she could’ve cussed out the entirety of Carp Tower when she left the Jin clan but held back
Wen Ning: does not swear
Wen Qing: calls men “imbeciles”
Lan Xichen: no one has heard him say it but says “ah fuck” whenever he messes up/drops something
Jin Guangyao: does not say it out loud but would love to call certain people “fucker” to their face. Is really good at insulting people without swearing, though
Nie Mingjue: “you little shit” (affectionate)
Nie Huaisang: “bitch” (affectionate)
Jin Ling: said “stupid” in front of Jiang Cheng once and got yelled at
Lan Sizhui: does not personally swear but still remembers all the swear words WWX taught him as a kid
Lan Jingyi: uses “shit” as a verb, noun, and adjective
Ouyang Zizhen: makes up really creative alternatives à la “mother trucker dude that hurt like a buttcheek on a stick”
Xue Yang: knows a lot of slurs and is not afraid to use them
Xiao Xincheng: does not know how to swear
Song Lan: the only swear word he ever said pre-tongue-removing was calling Xue Yang a “son of a bitch”
A-Jing: “fuck :)”
Do you ever think about how wei wuxian and jiang cheng got back to lotus pier in episode 11 and
IMMEDIATELY, without needing to be told, kneeled in the throne room to repent for worrying their guardians and their sect leader? Because that’s what you did back then when you disappear into the middle of the night without a word? As a show of respect too, acknowledging that they’ve caused the sect leader trouble
Meanwhile, nie huaisang rolls on home weeks after he was due back with three pals and a mass murderer after calling his brother to pick him up and is just like
“…. are you mad at me 🥺? You glare? At me? The most innocent and timid little brother to ever live? 🥺🥺🥺”
there are two kinds of big brothers
(hakjshfsfh xichen is here now, i’m still playing around with his design but it is he, zewu jun, wangxian club founder)
the series so far: nie bros | sangcheng | sangcheng pt.2 | wangxian | sc date night | morning after with dage | sc couple selfie | mianmian, zixuan & yanli | zixuan vs future in-laws | sangcheng flashback friday | nie onesies | gusu trio | jc’s zen place | huaisang’s everyday fan
Some more thoughts:
tma has never left much to the imagination; some statements are probably the most horror-inducing and gory piece of media out there
So after spending a whole season in a hellish world, after hearing torture after torture, the fact that at its climax, all we get is a jump cut into the future feels a bit…empty
We were told countless time this podcast was A Tragedy so I guessed my expectation were “too high” in that sense, because even thought Jon and Martin destiny IS a tragedy….the world is fine, the other characters are fine, and the finale is vague enough that they could be somewhat fine, but at the same time too vague for me to get some kind of catharsis! So I was left with this feeling of…. “eh”
Please don’t kill me but… did anyone else find the finale a bit… anticlimactic?
Don’t get me wrong, it was fine! It’s just that I have such high expectations of this show, I’d hoped they would do something really clever or unexpected. The ending we got is pretty much what I thought would happen. The only surprising part was how unsurprising it was!
(but if you did enjoy it then don’t let me rain on your parade! these are just my personal feelings)
