You shouldn’t be treating nb people like the secret sexy 3rd gender. Nb people don’t look like a mash of male and female, they’re not sexy androgynous twinks
white skinny androgynous nb people reblogging this and saying shit like “Well this is what I look like! So I feel represented!” Are literally part of the problem. I’m not saying that no nb people are white/skinny/andro, I’m saying that those are the only type of nb bodies that get represented
its nice, isnt it, when nonbinary people are visibly distinct from binary people? its easy, isnt it? you can remember to use “they” for people who have no visible breasts or beards, right? no need to challenge the notion of male vs female if nonbinary people have their own look, isnt that right?
its time to step the fuck up and really understand that nonbinary looks like anybody. nonbinary looks like you. nonbinary looks like your family and friends and it looks like the strangers who you thoughtlessly call “he” or “she” because of their appearance.
really supporting nonbinary people means understanding that theres no visual tell - you wont recognise all of us as nonbinary on sight. you have to actually LISTEN to us. you have to BELIEVE us. and it means challenging your assumptions about gender, starting with the assumption that youre an ally to trans people while youre still doing puerile shit like gendering body parts and clothes.
NONBINARY LOOKS LIKE ANYBODY. ANY BODY CAN BE NONBINARY.
as a skinny white androgynous afab nonbinary person do you have any idea how much I would do to see other nonbinary people in media? I can count the amount of nonbinary characters and celebrities I know, on my fingers and still have some left over.
but you know what I would kill to see? nonbinary people who don’t look like me. I mean sure it’s validating as fuck to see people who look like me, living the life I want, and getting live and recognition and being treated like the people they are. but I’m very aware that people like me, who don’t look like me don’t have that luxury.
I want enby rep of nonbinary people who use dual pronouns.
I want enby rep of nonbinary people who use dual names.
I want enby rep of nonbinary people who are amab.
I want enby rep of masc amab nonbinary people.
I want enby rep of femme amab nonbinary people.
I want enby rep of intersex people.
I want enby rep of nonbinary people of colour, and not just black non-binary people. any nationality we can get out hands on really.
I want so much nonbinary rep that ANY person who is questioning, or is out, or wants to see themselves in media CAN.
those small moments of pride and validation mean the absolute world to me. and I want everyone to feel that too.
there are so many types of nonbinary, it’s not just a ‘third gender’. sometimes it’s chaotic and hard to explain. sometimes it’s fluid and changes. sometimes you can’t quite figure it out so you find the next best thing. if any two nonbinary people have a conversation about gender we all relate, but we rarely agree on hoa it feels because there are so many types!
I love every single one of my nonbinary siblings, no matter their pronouns or race or specific gender identity. you are valid as fuck. and I will fight in any way I can to make sure you all know that.
