Something that’s really interesting about bkdk’s relationship is that for a long time Deku was the only one who saw bakugo as just a person and not a person with a strong quirk, who could be used as an asset to society. Bakugo was always praised for having a strong quirk and for the things he could do with it, but he was never once praised for his qualities as a person, so of course he learned to measure his self worth based on what he could do instead of who he was, separate from his strong quirk and potential as a hero.
This is why winning and coming out on top with strength is so important to him. he was always praised for being strong, and he was strong because of his quirk. To him, the greatest hero is the one who is strongest and always wins, and to get that title you have to surpass the current strongest person, which was All Might. Bakugo always wanted to be as strong as All Might, and he looked up to All Might’s triumphs in battles.
Deku on the other hand looked up to how All Might saved people with a smile even when the odds were against him, and he saw it as All Might won because he saved people, while Bakugo saw it as All Might saved people because he won - bakugo saw strength and victory where deku saw heroism for the sake of helping people.
This difference in perception also stretched to their relationship, because deku was the one who saw bakugo as a person apart from his quirk and he recognized that just like everyone else, bakugo will sometimes need help. Bakugo on the other hand thought that accepting help meant he was weak, and he wanted to be the strongest, which meant he couldn’t accept help from anyone, because if he did he was technically admitting that person was stronger than he was.
This is where the rift between them happens because Bakugo sees deku’s sympathy for him as a person as Deku looking down on his strength and calling him weak. Because deku was the only one who measured Bakugo’s worth as something on the inside, thinking that Bakugo was this amazing person, not because of his quirk but because he always stood tall against any obstacle and always did his best despite the odds sometimes being against him, just like All Might.
Even that time at the creek, deku was the only one who saw bakugo as a person, who fell down and probably needed help getting up. All his other friends just brushed off the fact that bakugo could have gotten hurt, because he’s too strong to possibly get hurt by something like a fall.
This is where their rift gets bigger, because again, bakugo only knows how to measure his self worth based on what he can do, and deku looks as him as a person who has more qualities than just an amazing and strong quirk. It’s also why there’s so much miscommunication between them, with bakugo thinking deku looks down on him and mocks him, whereas deku obviously isn’t even aware bakugo feels this way because he thinks being a person and needing help sometimes doesn’t make you weak.
I think this thing between them and the miscommunication has to be resolved somehow and every big encounter they had so far has been building up to that. In vol. 29 we actually see Bakugo accepting Deku’s hand for the first time, which signifies his growth as a person and a hero because he finally stops looking down on Deku and accepts that needing help doesn’t mean weakness.
Bakugo’s sacrifice in ch285 was the first big step of a resolution in their relationship and it absolutely has to lead to something even bigger, which will probably be the talk between them where they air everything out. If anything, i think that if we get a DvK3 it might not be so much a physical fight but more a verbal confrontation between them, which is what everything else has been building up to.
“— You were always far away behind me, yet… I felt that you were somehow miles ahead of me. I hated that. I didn’t want to feel like that. […] It probably doesn’t mean anything telling you all this but that’s what I really think. I’m sorry for everything I’ve done up until now. ”
Deku had a secret admirer.
He had no idea who it was, but shakily written love notes had started appearing in his locker. One time he even got a single rose. Another time there was a box of his favorite All Might chocolates waiting for him when he got to school in the morning. He honestly had no idea who it could be that was leaving these things, but the notes kept coming, multiple times a week.
He never saw anyone slip one into his locker, he never even saw anyone around before he found one.
He thought maybe he should be more concerned about it, but all the notes seemed really harmless. In fact, they were sweet and he actually kept them all in a folder in his notebook, even not knowing who they were from.
The thought that this might be a prank crossed his mind, but he decided not to think about it, mostly because he actually loved the idea of someone liking him enough to do these things.
So when he was running a little late for class one morning and he saw Uraraka lingering by his locker, looking at it, of course he immediately thought of the notes. And sure enough, when he opened his locker, a new note was in there.
He confronted her about it that night, asking if she was the one who’d been leaving him these love notes and gifts. Just by her blushing face he had to assume it was her. Even if deep inside he was a little disappointed that it wasn’t someone else, he couldn’t ignore her devotion or her feelings and he decided to give her a chance.
When Deku and Uraraka started dating because of the notes he’d been leaving in Deku’s locker, Bakugo wanted to scream.
“Just trying to meet expectations! A smiling… dependable… cool hero… That’s what I wanna be! That’s why I’m giving it everything! For everyone! (…)”
