The state, as an institution, is based on maintenance of the monopoly on violence. 

If a state with ~$1trillion ‘defense’ budget can’t successfully defend it’s chambers it no longer possesses that monopoly.

If an unarmed mob can overwhelm it’s security forces - it cannot maintain the pretense of rule by force.

If it’s security forces refuse to defend it’s structures and members then they have failed to obtain obedience.

If they cannot convince the public that the ritual of democracy was legitimate then they have no claims left to power.

There’s no way to split what happened today as anything but the soft collapse of the federal government. They might slip and grab to bring the illusion back but it’s been permanently lifted to to large a portion of the public.

Prepare yourself accordingly.

You know, until today, I thought America was a lot closer. I thought everyone generally agreed that Congress was corrupt, the system needs desperate reforms and that the politicians don’t work for the people. I thought the main disgreement between Americans was that some thought Trump would be less corrupt while others thought Trump would be more corrupt, but I didn’t think people actually… liked Trump. I thought it was a situation like Hillary and Biden were for Democrats -  they didn’t like him, but he was the best of a bad bunch.

I didn’t think there were people who would actually willingly choose the guy if they had other options available!

Unfortunately, some people have fallen for Trump’s lies hook, line, and sinker.

Nero Bride’s description in Fate GO is uh, interesting.

“Passing away without meeting her fated spouse, this pure white Servant continued to fight despite not having her fated meeting even after becoming a Servant.

In other words, a figure that vanished in dreams, without ever participating in the Holy Grail War of a certain virtual world.”

Is this implying that not only was Nero fated to marry Hakuno, but that any what-if where she somehow didn’t would completely alter her spirit origin?

Forgot to post, my GSSR result from NYE.

My Nero x Haku simping has been noticed

Of course, every character in ExLink is flanderized.

Haku was morally/philosophically conflicted in Extra, lost a lot of that in Extella but retained some good chemistry with Nero, but is now just a generic narrator with nothing of any interest or personality to add. He occasionally sasses Nero or praises Charlemagne, but that’s about it. There’s not even any dialogue choices, and most of his interactions with the servants are handled Grand Order style, so you don’t even get to see any reaction from what they say.

Nero’s geniune devotion to Haku that made her the surprise hilight of Extella is… hinted, but most of her character has been overtaken by her melodramatic side. Also, for some reason, the throwaway scene that suggests she’s bad at singing has become a defining trait. There’s a side mission where you have to fight to stop her from performing, and it really comes off like something out of a parody. She’s pretty much become the butt of a lot of jokes, which is a huge and rather unwelcome shift from Extella.

Altera is barely in it at all. I didn’t really like her so I’m not complaining, but still. Gilgemesh, Iskandar, and Jeanne are also sidelined pretty hard.

Really the only character more likable in ExLink as opposed to Extella is Bathory, who’s much more dere and less of a sadist, but she also plays a pretty minor role.

Astolfo, Gilles, Artoria, Scathatch, Lancelot, Darius, and Drake are all welcome additions gameplay wise, but are all pretty irrelevant and underdeveloped in the plot.

That just leaves Charlemagne, who despite being a central character, is also pretty boring. He comes off like something a fanfic would write. He’s just kinda treated as perfect and great despite not really doing anything interesting. 

Honestly, the fact that ExLink was the first Fate game not written by Nasu really shows. It feels more like a rushed fanfiction, which is a shame. The graphics and gameplay are quite good, definitely the best of the series yet.

Given that Extra had the opposite problem, I guess the Fate games have come full circle.

You know I really love Shinji and Asuka as a ship. They have such great potential to be a really cool couple. But in some otherwise great fics there’s a tendency to write post series AsuShin as: 

Asuka: says something really prideful at either Shinji or Rei’s expense. 

Shinji: totally in love, just smiles and accepts it because he now understands Asuka’s personality better. 

I really don’t like this interpretation of them. I wanna propose that the real post series healthy Shinji/Asuka dynamic is. 

Asuka: says something really prideful at either Shinji or Rei’s expense. 

Shinji: now being more comfortable with engaging with Asuka says something fairly sarcastic back in return. 

Asuka: who now has enough self esteem to handle that, starts an argument to ‘defend herself’ from Shinji’s sarcasm.

Shinji: totally okay with that, just argues back and forth with her. neither of them being really emotionally involved in the argument.
