*He nodded slowly, thinking about what the hell he was supposed to say.*
Yeah, Ace, I did. It’s all right there. And you have to take it, I spent so much money on it that it would be a waste to not take it.
*His fingers found the pockets in his jeans, and he shoved them so far into the pockets you would have thought he’d break a hole in them. He was contemplating changing his whole entire life in this very moment. There was still so much that he was hiding, but he knew that he wanted to be with Ace, and he wanted Ace to be his.*
By the way, I did it because I like you, idiot. Don’t ask me why because I couldn’t tell you, but I do. I really, really do.
*Mello gradually got stiffer as he talked. He was afraid of rejection and afraid of feelings. So he wasn’t sure how bad this would turn out for him.*
He reluctantly pushed the box back out of sight just behind the doorway. So obviously Mello wasn’t leaving him a choice in the matter, but the real question was why Mello would pull something like that. Sure, he wasn’t as broke as Ace, but Ace still assumed he didn’t have the money to go out and blow 5k on tech for a friend for no reason.
He didn’t ask, but he saw Mello’s hands tense, and then he said It. The words Ace had been waiting to hear ever since he started falling in love with Mello.
He didn’t know what to say. He could see Mello stiffening up as he talked, and something about it caused a storm in Ace’s chest. Of course he loved Mello, he had for going on a year or two, but at the same time…
Ace was a burden to Mello. He had never been as harsh or competitive or as volatile as he had. For every fire that burned inside Mello, relaxation and calm found its home in Ace.
“Mells…” Before he knew it, he was leaning in over the doorstep, he was kissing Mello’s lips gently. All it was really was just a gentle brush of soft lips that tasted of chocolate against chapped ones, but when Ace found himself again, he pulled away, cheeks flushed bright red.
“Shit, Mell, I’m sorry, I should have asked…”
