I was checking my Instagram and found something amazing by Jeremy Zag; a picture of female superheroes from Miraculous Ladybug! I know, I know. You are wondering how that’s a spoiler. I’ll tell you how. Because two of those heroes are heroes that have yet to premiere on the show!
As we know, it was confirmed a long time ago that Mylene was going to get the mouse miraculous. This time, you can see what she’s going to look like! It’s actually pretty cute. The second one, I’m really excited about. The other hero……… is Tigresse Pourpre, also known as Purple Tigress in English! The identity is none other than our favorite goth girl in Marinette’s class!
This means that it is confirmed, Miraculers! It really is Juleka Couffaine that will wield the tiger miraculous!
I said I was tired of seeing old Akuma’s, but I’m sick of Mr. Pigeon the most. He never worked the last 71 times! Why bring him back after so many attempts? And the cause of the Akuma being Bob Roth does not surprise me at all. The guy is a manipulator and a cheat (Trying to bypass pigeons as doves for a commercial, what’s wrong with this idiot?). He’s nothing but a big shot who thinks he can do whatever he wants. Because of him, Ramier got akumatized (again!), Adrien was turned into a pigeon, and it’s pretty much still like it never happened. Man, I hate that!
Speaking of, why would Adrien’s father put birds in a commercial when his son is allergic to feathers? Did he forget that? That gets my goat just as much because for a parent that’s trying to protect his son, he’s not paying very much attention to health.
Rants aside, let’s get more into the civilian stories. The Akuma did not last long anyway. You gotta admire Marinette’s tenacity, but it does tend to get out of hand. For one thing, she needs to learn to take a break about translating the grimoire. The more she digs into it without a break now and again, the less she is going to see. She’s even made unnecessary traps and a stupid echolocation-like hat. She’s officially off her rocker at this time.
On a related note, thanks to Alya, we finally found out how Marinette got her new look and started using those charms. It’s because, with her creative mind, she was able to make it happen herself. I was personally expecting something a little more epic. Like a new potion or an unexpected awakening in her powers. Using the power of creativity to just make it happen out of thin air is a little too easy.
It especially got out of hand when she tried to get Kagami back together with Adrien. Even when Kagami tried to tell her that she did not want a relationship with Adrien again. She even comes prepared with stuff that she kept in a briefcase in case she had a run-in with Adrien anywhere (A foldable ball gown? Fishing rod? Yeah, this girl needs therapy). Kagami was right; it was getting crazy. We know she was trying to get over Adrien, but this was going overboard.
On the plus side, Kagami officially gives up Adrien to Marinette. She sees for herself that Adrien is not the guy that she needs, but instead, says that he’s perfect for Marinette. Marinette can hide it all she wants, but we both know that from Adrien remembering the umbrella, them having fun together, and Adrien starting to turn into Marinette, it’s clear that the ship is still getting ready to sail.
Rose Lavillant has earned newfound respect from us.
So the way this episode started, I did not see that coming. It turns out that Rose has a medical history, being in the hospital because of an illness that could come back at any time. Which was kept a secret, and it put a lot of stress on poor Juleka. My only complaint about it is that I wish we had more detail about it. Like what kind of illness was it? Cancer? An infection? Weak immune system? It sort of leaves us in the dark a little bit more. However, it makes us give Rose a new ounce of respect and admiration. She’s fought a disease for so long, and she powers through by thinking positive about everything she does. Let’s not forget she’s now 13 or 14. I would never be able to be as optimistic as she is after something like that.
I can see where Rose and Juleka were coming from, keeping it a secret. Once you learn something as big as this about a friend, it’s unsure how you would react to it at first. Once the class found out, they all acted like she would get sick again over every little thing. Heck, one sneeze, and it’s like Hawkmoth himself attacked the school! But at least that shows that Rose prefers her independence or being taken care of, unlike a particular liar and deceiver we all know.
Remember what I said on Gang of Secrets? About how tired I was of saying the same Akuma? That still stands. I figured it was going to be Juleka getting akumatized but still turning everyone into Reflekta? Like I said, seeing these previous villains are getting tired. I would have figured Guiltrip would be a new villain that makes people feel guilty about something, but not as Reflekta. I still say that we need new Akumas.
On the bright side, Rose’s optimism is what made her a hero. And as we predicted, she got the pig miraculous and became the new hero, Pigella. Personally, I think the power of joy for a miraculous might be a little cliche, but no doubt it suits Rose to a ’T.’ In fact, her transformation sequence and outfit make her look like a magical girl out of an anime. And the discreet way she returned the miraculous; this girl is all kinds of awesome.
All in all, this episode was really good. We can’t help loving Rose even more after all that just happened, and we learned a pretty good lesson in being optimistic through the hard times. So let’s stay positive for what’s going to happen in the future.
‘Even if we can’t tell each other everything, we can still trust each other.’ Yeah, if only every character in a TV show could think of it that way.
Honestly, this episode got me a little riled up. I have a couple of things to rant about.
Much like the last two episodes, this was about the same thing; secrets, secrets, and more secrets! It’s like the writers want to start this show off with Marinette feeling under pressure from keeping her other life a secret. For example, she got so antsy when the episode started. She even went off at a romance scene at the movies about honesty and keeping secrets. She even tried to push her friends out of her life to protect them. If that doesn’t show that keeping these secrets are driving her crazy, I don’t know what does.
This brings me to my first rant. I understand the concept here amongst friends, but I’m getting tired of seeing the same old Akuma’s from previous seasons. This is season 4, so I would like to see something new and fresh with the character’s akumatizations. Even characters like Luka, Kagami, and Chloe were not the same Akuma twice.
Part of that is where I get to my second rant; hypocrisy. By that, I mean bringing back Rena Rouge. Don’t get me wrong, I like her but didn’t she say if Hawkmoth knows who you are, you can’t come back as a hero? After giving Chloe all that flack about Queen Bee not coming back because Hawkmoth knows who she is, why would Marinette bring back Rena Rouge after Chloe exposed her as Miracle Queen in front of said villain? None of that seems fair at all.
And then… Marinette did it. She told Alya that she was Ladybug.
That one is more of a semi-rant. I have mixed feelings about Marinette telling Alya her secret. On one hand, it must be a weight off her shoulders. She can finally console in her best friend about her other life and the stress behind it. She’s also trustworthy and loyal, so that’s a plus. On the other hand, it’s Alya; the girl who’s been after Ladybug’s identity since the start of her blog. She’s a journalist in the making. Not to mention, what will happen once Chat Noir knows about this? He’s probably going to feel betrayed.
Marinette better knows what she’s doing. Because it’s only going to get more complicated from here.
Let’s be honest; if it was not going to work out with Luka and Marinette, it was most likely not going to work with these two.
So they made this episode work out in the same anthology and the same day as Luka’s Akuma. The only difference is Kagami feels more betrayed compared to Luka, from what I see. And she even became an Akuma that had to do with lies. Secrecy is becoming a big deal to a point on this show. At this rate, being a superhero is a rather bittersweet life.
Kagami became a big focus on this episode like Luka was in Truth, and we see how much honesty and trust is her biggest quality that she wants in a relationship. In fact, sort of like Luka, we find out something new about her too. It turns out that Kagami is a realism artist. She feels as though art cannot tell lies and you can tell a person’s character from their movements and poses (If I may add, she’s very talented. I don’t get why Kagami says her mother thinks she’s not good enough. Her mom’s blind, so how would she know?). However, it seems that Kagami did not see it with Adrien, which was a little concerning.
A little trivia about the Akuma; this is the second time that Marinette’s lucky charm to Adrien was the akumatized item after Gorizilla. Only this time, it was because Kagami tested her trust in Adrien. And because of that, she became a truth Akuma like Luka. In fact, it was almost similar to Luka’s sentimonster; freezes people who lie.
But then came the most interesting twist; Fang. The lucky charm, which was a drone, was just bait to get Fang to follow it towards the villain. And good time too. I need more than one hand to count how many times Chat Noir’s sacrifices almost got him revealed. The crocodile became the hero in this battle because animals don’t know how to lie. They can play tricks, but they cannot lie.
Personally, breaking it off with Kagami doesn’t feel as much of a loss like it was with Luka. The way I see it, Kagami got a little carried away with her feelings for Adrien because they had a lot in common. The thing is, I learned the hard way that having a lot in common does not mean that you are meant to be a couple. Don’t get me wrong, because I understand how important trust is. I just think she expected too much from him because of said common ground. In my opinion, they may have some similarities, but their characters are too different from each other. That said, miraculous or not, I do not think it would have worked out either way.
So from the first few minutes alone, I could tell that this was the episode that should have premiered for the season. So Furious Fu was an episode released out of order. Some things never change with the productions, I guess.
So Lukanette; it happened right off the bat in this episode. Some dates and nearly a kiss. And as it said, there wasn’t a lot of time put into it because of Marinette’s job as Ladybug. I think this Lukanette moment happened a little too early. If this was the original season premiere, then at least some of this should have happened in a later episode.
Other than that, as far as the show goes, Astruc and his crew are stepping up their game. They make us feel for the characters a lot right now. After all, this Akuma was made because Luka did not feel like Marinette could be truthful with him, which in her case is easier said than done. But the concept of his Akuma knows how to hit home. The color scheme seems fitting, but the eye insignia and the sentimonster; perfect symbolism.
Let me explain that; I had a source that said that Pharo was said to be inspired by the third eye. With chakra, the third eye is said to be the invisible eye in the center of your forehead associated with clairvoyance. Others say it has to do with intuition, as it gives you a better insight into a person or a place. Hence, the representation of Pharo. Another addition to that, the light that freezes the person whilst Truth makes them tell their secrets, almost like putting someone on the spot. Which was what aluminum foil for a lucky charm a clever piece.
At least we got something confirmed so early. On the downside, it appears that Lukanette is not canon. It’s too bad because they seemed like a cute pairing in the episode. Some Adrienette fans might be relieved, but I feel bad for them. Marinette’s secrets are preventing her from being a teenage girl, and Luka found his dad in a way that no one expected. This episode had an impact on both of them. On the plus side, a fan theory was confirmed; Jagged Stone is Luka’s father! There were so many premonitions about this, and now there it is. This is probably the most powerful moment of the episode.
This also makes us curious about something else; if this is the result of Marinette and Luka, I’d hate to see Adrien and Kagami.
Well, there were good times and bad times and worst times going on in this episode. The good times were when Master Fu came back! The bad times were when the original guardian of the miraculous, Su-Han, showed up and tried to take the box back from Marinette. The worst part is that because of Su-Han, Master Fu got akumatized!
I must say it was interesting to have Fu as a villain. Oddly enough, his akumatized look made him look a lot more like a guardian. Ironic, isn’t it? And using those talismans as a weapon; a very clever piece. Writing on that little piece of paper to make a little bit of everything happen, like Buddhist seals and summons, a lot of fun to watch. My favorite part was ‘Vision;’ when Fu used one of them to see what Ladybug saw with her lucky charm. It was a clever way to see what she was up to before it backfired.
Speaking of which, the lucky charm being a distraction was genius. It was a pair of bolt cutters to take out a soccer ball from the cage. Using the ball Furious Fu to retaliate Ladybug’s and Chat Noir’s attacks all together just for Marian to get the akumatized item. Love it!
Let me just say that Ladybug’s new form is kind of cool. It’s a bit of a letdown to know that it only appears when she does her lucky charm. Although, I noticed one small detail; Marinette did not look surprised when it happened. Does this mean this was published out of order again, or did I miss something?
So the episode was kind of bittersweet. The only thing that disappointed me was that it was over too soon. Now that season 4 is finally releasing after the pandemic delay, there is a lot to look forward to. From what I understand, the next episode won’t release until nearly halfway through April, which is best to keep an open eye out. Because the next episode is supposed to be about Luka. ;)
P.S., The new opening isn’t as different as I thought it was going to be. I was expecting all of the kwami’s in one setting and Shadow Moth to have a new scenario. Not the mention, the beginning of the opening is getting a little old.
Miraculous Review #59 - Miraculous New York: Heroez United
This New York special had me laughing, and my heart racing! How, you ask? Spots and claws, where to start?
Let’s start with America’s heroes! Majestia was the heroine that Alya was talking about in the origins special. I would never have guessed she was real. I thought she was only a comic book character. There was also an android for a sidekick (That proves to be smarter than most about the identity thing, I might add). And there was another hero that I’m skeptical about. For starters, Night Owl’s outfit looked just like Dark Owl, and it has more of a Batman thing than Dark Owl did. Question; since Hawkmoth is the one that made Dark Owl when Night Owl already existed, isn’t that copyright? And then came their real identities; he’s a woman!? Her sidekick’s her daughter!? Her and Majestia are lovers!? My head hurt grasping everything about these heroes all at once.
And the villain, now THAT was fun. It was a villain that absorbed power to be more powerful. Hawkmoth took a being that was already a superpowered villain and made him even more powerful, especially when he added the eagle miraculous. I give points for the three in one villain technique. The only critique I have is that I thought it was too similar to a combination of Doc Oc and Electro from Spider-Man. I’m sure it was not intentional, and it was probably for a reference, but I feel like it was not original enough that way. Not to mention when I saw Majestia, I almost thought it was Supergirl.
And Chat Noir? Oh, my gosh, did I feel horrible for him! He had one chance to have a moment where he could be Adrien and have fun or be Chat Noir and stick to his hero responsibilities. I could feel the anxiety circulating around each moment something happened. More so when he Cataclysmed Aeon. My heart felt like it dropped to my stomach when he tried to give up his miraculous. That was definitely a time where Chat Noir had truly got us in the feels, wouldn’t you say? One critique I have about it, I thought the motivation scene to give Adrien his miraculous was a bit plain and rushed. It was almost too easy. He had a lot of moments where he felt guilty and irresponsible to a point where Ladybug broke his spirit and he gave up his miraculous. So much was on his shoulders and it took a recording of one or two sentences from Ladybug and a few from Aeon to change his mind just like that? It should have been a bit more profound to convince him.
Even the small parts of the side stories were fun to watch. For one thing, Ms. Bustier’s having a baby!? That’s very exciting! I question her teaching methods sometimes, but I think with her exceptional morals, she’ll make a good mother. And what about Sabrina and the American boy? Ooh-la-la in NYC! I’m hoping that’s a sign that he might be another character added to the show from here on out. Speaking of which, Adrien and Marinette dancing again, but this time, it got even sweeter. I’ve heard of dancing under the moonlight, but they took that romantic gesture to a whole new level. Despite the plan not working out, let’s not give up on these two palookas. This was one special, and the show is still going strong. It’s not over yet between them (Sorry, Kagami. Together or not, I’m an Adrinette cheerleader).
And we got another transformation; flying. So that’s a note so far for the transformations; Blue: Ice Green: Aqua Purple: Flying
Let’s not forget an important detail; LOST MIRACULOUS!!! That has to mean that season 4 has some of the adventures about lost miraculous and then some! We even got to see the eagle miraculous, a miraculous from a different miracle box! That proves it; there are more miraculous and miracle boxes! This also might prove that each one is another zodiac line!
It’s been so long since something new from Miraculous Ladybug came out, I almost forgot how awesome it was (I can’t wait for this pandemic to be over already)! I thought the voices almost sounded a little bit different from the TV show, but the thrills and excitement still remain. It makes me happy to know that despite the pandemic going on at this very moment, the cast, crew, and the show itself are still going strong.
P.S., From here on out, Marinette should have a chaperone when she’s near an automatic door.
So this is what they meant by ‘so close, yet so far.’
I can’t say that none of us have ever wanted a hero moment, but the fact that it was their principal that was trying to do random stunts was kind of… well, bad. And it turns out that he was told by Ladybug and Chat Noir that he had to stop, but he was headstrong about being a hero that he goofed up. Honestly, you can’t help but feel bad for him once his identity was exposed. However, he was told plenty of times to stop what he was doing. So once again, the akumatization was kind of both ways.
I rather like the antihero attire for this particular Akuma. Principal Damocles has all the right features of an owl, from the horned owl topper to the eyes to the mask. The features put into it to make it look like an owl-themed antihero is pretty cromulent. The color coordination is probably the best part of it, in my opinion. Putting brown and orange together like that without making it look too much like something autumn-themed or Halloween-esque is very well put together. And the big yellow and orange eyes bring it together. Then there’s the owl insignia for a superhero on the chest, it looks pretty good. Making an owl sign using the eyes and cross eyebrow look is slightly obvious, yet binding. Granted, I think parts of the costume tend to give a bit of a Batman vibe, but it’s a good ensemble. (I went to an art college and did a lot of critiquing for projects. I got a bit carried away on this bit lol). As for powers, I would not exactly call them powers as I would call them trained for combat fighting. That made it more similar to Batman. If it weren’t for the fact that Dark Owl was an Akuma, I think he would make an interesting Miraculous user.
The lucky charms were pretty useful as well. A fountain pen ink filter can be squeezed out, depending on the pen. I’m not too familiar with it, but I do know that fountain pens can get pretty messy if too much pressure is added to it but can ink be thick enough to cover a whole camera lens? For that matter, was there really that much ink in one little pen? And seriously; a comic book? That’s what it took to lead them to the computer? Well, I guess other options would not give any other hints, so I can give credit where credit is due.
Although, despite the antihero battle that was going on, I highly doubt the battle was the main focus of the episode. How about that Marinette and Adrien were close to revealing themselves to one other? The fountain pen I mentioned, Well, that was to keep Dark Owl and Hawkmoth from seeing their true identities. One slightly opened eye and their identities would be revealed to each other and the two can finally get a clue. Don’t get me wrong. I understand the secret identity concept, but these two are getting ridiculous.
I actually would like to consider the aftermath of the episode a good life lesson for us; even the small things we do in life can make us feel like heroes. Have you ever done something small, but people consider you a hero for it? Like if you gave someone advice for a project for a present, or if you helped someone out of trouble in a store? I once helped a customer look for something they needed to sew something for her grandchild, and it made me feel so good hearing her tell me how much I made her day and possibly made her grandson so happy. So you see, even the little things you do for someone can make the day brighter and show that good still exists in the world. That, in my opinion, is the best example to lead as a true hero.
Besides, who says you need to wear a mask to be one?
As we would have expected, Season 4 of Miraculous Ladybug is pushed back until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Let’s be honest about this; as we all know, this show has had a history of having episodes delayed. The show had numerous delays that the episodes were not out of order to where some of it did not make sense. Believe me, when I found out we would have to wait until next year, my patience was wearing thin, especially after how season 3 ended. However, this time is when it started to get serious.
Can we be mad at them for this? Can we say they aren’t doing this for a good reason? Right now, the world is in a very fragile state. After everything that has happened to this day, no one can say that it was not smart of them to maintain protocols. People are staying home, wearing masks, keeping sanitizer, and then some.
I’ve seen how crazy it has been in retail stores and grocery stores especially, so I know how hard it has been for everyone throughout this international emergency. This whole emergency has got everyone on edge and everything. I once saw a Facebook post of a restaurant bill where a waiter only got a 5 cent tip because the said waiter was wearing a mask.
So everyone, let’s keep following the example; wear masks, wash your hands, keep a six-foot distance from others, and most of all, stay safe. Also, remember; we’re in this together, so we will fight this together.
What else am I supposed to say? I mean, Hawkmoth is so desperate that he akumatized a baby because it was throwing a tantrum over a sucker. And he actually thought it was going to work! In what way was a baby that probably was only a year old going to be a perfect villain? Noted, he tried to get the bodyguard first, but he could’ve pulled away when the Akuma landed in the baby’s ID bracelet. It may have been an accident, but not a happy one. If that’s not the most ‘Utterly ridiculous’ thing I’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is. That’s all I can say about it.
Aside from the fight, our side story seemed to be the biggest focus through this episode. The side quest is on Marinette trying to get a date with Adrien with the help of her friends, by using a plan to set her up with him. I seriously think Marinette overthinks these things too much. She could write a book about that. At this rate, these plans she’s coming up with might as well be something on KC Undercover. And then it ends with another fail. Marinette, why? All she had to do was get in the car with Adrien, and there would have been more progress to her plan. Instead, her flustered self got the better of her.
So all in all, the side story was funny, but the episode itself was barely worth it. An akumatized baby to take something that he does not understand. I think this episode was just to make us laugh or something, but the only funny part was how Hawkmoth was handling Gigantitan (You’re a father, man! Were you really out of Adrien’s life that much?). If they want to use something for a baby in this show, use the mother for a 'mama bear’ Akuma.
So we get a new character introduced to us, in a way. We get to meet a flying robot that reminds of the 90’s cartoon, Reboot (Loved that show). I never would have thought of a robot being added to the show, but there it is.
I would have expected Max to get akumatized on account of his robot getting confiscated, but it turns out that Markov was the one who got akumatized. So in this episode, we discover that Hawkmoth can akumatize more than just people. He akumatized a homemade robot. It barely did much. All the Akuma did was change Markov to dark colors. I probably would have expected a bigger robot. Not like Transformers big, but bigger than he already was.
The battle in this episode was like a robot apocalypse. Some people did say that robots would take over the world, and this episode was their worst nightmare. The predictability of the Lucky Charm was half and half. I had a feeling it was going to include the virus thing that Max used early on, but I did not think there was going to be more to it. I mean, a harp? I did not think that was going to do any good before Ladybug used it as a bolo trap.
In fact, we make another discovery in this episode. We find out why the ladybug and black cat miraculous are so important. As we know, both miraculous’ are different from each other. The ladybug has the power of creation, and the black cat has the power of destruction. These two powers balance each other out. And if formed together, greater power emerges, and the wearer of both miraculous’ will be given one wish. It all sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Well, don’t let that fool you.
I mean, hasn’t everyone seen any fantasy movie? Plus, I learned something from watching the show, ‘Once Upon a Time.’ I learned that all magic comes with a price. There’s a lot of things that I learned from fantasy worlds; be careful what you wish for, the consequences of dark magic, alchemy, and more. Magic is not something to be afraid of, but it can only do so much good in the end. And the consequences to them are not always pretty.
Well, there’s a new character for Adrien in his life.
Marinette seriously needs to get a hobby, one that does not involve Adrien for a change. She tried to be a part of the fencing tryouts to get closer to him. What I can’t understand is how Marinette called Adrien handsome to her opponent, who was Adrien himself, Adrien still did not catch on.
At least this way, we get to meet a new character named Kagami Tsurugi, a competitive girl who does fencing, which runs in the family. From the looks of it, her mother must have expected her to win the match against Adrien. It does not surprise me. A lot of Asian families have high expectations. Stereotypical, but it’s not untrue, in some cases. It also explains why her Akuma is called ‘Riposte.’ Riposte is a fencing move in which an opponent does a return thrust following a parry (I’m just reading a definition. I don’t know how to fence. I don’t follow sports in general, to be honest). I think that the armored samurai look is pretty good. And that Japanese symbol on her helmet? Brilliant touch.
What was interesting is that during a part of that fight, Chat Noir had to fight with a twisted ankle. I like watching stuff like that in the shows I watch. I don’t know why, but it’s a nice change of pace from the traditional fights; Chat Noir makes puns and flirts, Ladybug says stop then summons a luck charm, Chat Noir Cataclysms, lucky charm comes into play, they win the fight. Adding an injury makes things interesting.
Speaking of which, the lucky charm was definitely interesting. At first, it was confusing because it was a heat radiator. But using it to break the saber that held the Akuma was pretty clever. Honestly, I think sabers are semi-easy to break. It bends, but so does toy swords. Even they can only bend so far back.
And now for the brass tacks, it seems we have ourselves a true love triangle. There was definitely something going on with Kagami and Adrien there. It was something that was never there with Chloe to make a triangle out of. Kagami is definitely a character to keep an open eye out for this kind of moment, because I really want Marinette to be with Adrien.
So in this episode, it’s Marinette’s birthday. I honestly thought she was already fourteen. It’s normally the young teens that get the fun in magic. Anyway, we get to meet more of Marinette’s family. We meet her dad’s mother, her grandmother, Gina Dupain. She seems like the kind of grandma that makes life fun, but it turns out that it happens only when she goes traveling. She celebrated Marinette’s birthday with the things she enjoyed as a child. The merry-go-round, ice cream, and the zoo. The merry-go-round, I get, but you’re never too old for ice cream or animals.
I actually wondered about where the name Befana came from for the Akuma. If you look closely, you can see that it was the candy brand Marinette was pretending to eat (By the way, what is in those candy’s that make them taste so bad?). I also did some research, and it turns out that Befana is also the name of a witch from Italian Folklore. She’s an old woman that gives good children presents on the night of January 5th, like Santa Clause. That explains the whole coal statues and angels concept for her powers.
It certainly did make Gina look interesting, like a real biker mama. I think my favorite feature on her Akuma look is her hair. And using the candy’s as bullets to make who she thinks was good or bad into angels or statues was genius. Although I could do without the singing.
The Lucky Charm was… random. Like it always is. The last thing I expected was for it to be a tuba and for it to have to do with water from a hydrant. It did not surprise me that it was how it was done because of the water streaming from the tuba. I’m just glad that it did not cause any permanent damage to the grandmother.
Outside of that, her birthday shed some light on a few things. We learn something about kwami’s from Tikki. They can create something called a kwagatama; a symbol of friendship between kwami’s and their holders. That really says a lot about their bond. Speaking of which, Adrien’s gift? I will admit; it was actually rather sweet. That shows how much he’s thinking about her. Which might mean more.
I need to state something here. Marinette was called a liar a few times in this episode because of the surprise party. The way I see it, I don’t believe she lied, but she did have suspicions because of some obvious hints. There’s a difference between the two. A lot of these people are not good at incognito, but they still manage to pull through. So I can’t pin Marinette as the bad guy in this.
I’ve been saving these last two episodes until now since it was the season finale. Where to even start? There’s another love Akuma, the love square, Master Fu, and then Chloe.
Honestly, it makes me wonder how Audrey and Andre are a couple in the first place. Sometimes, Andre is nothing short of spineless, and Audrey is nothing but a diva. Plus, the Akuma is kind of freaking me out. I mean, it’s like a floating ball with a face on both sides. I understand that the Akuma was made based on a mythological being, but it’s still creepy.
Remember when I said I was proud of Chloe? Forget I said anything because it turns out that I had too much faith in her. I feel like she really let us down this time. She had an opportunity to be a hero without a mask, as she always did. Instead, it’s still going to be the same thing; she wants the miraculous. Well, she has it now, but she sided with Hawkmoth and risked every hero’s identity. And all for what? Because of her desperation to be Queen Bee, everyone’s identity has been compromised, save for Ladybug and Chat Noir. This means no more Rena Rouge, no more Viperion, and so on. I don’t know about you guys, but there is no way for me to look past this. I can’t forgive someone who’s obsession with power lets them go this far for it. Marinette was absolutely right; Chloe doesn’t deserve to be called a superhero. In fact, it had me think about this moment; what if it’s Chloe that might be the new future Hawkmoth?(We are getting a lot of enemies that might fit the description since Timetagger)
And what about Master Fu? Him granting Marinette the box and making her the new guardian was something, but I never would have expected that to make him have his memory erased. This means… we might not ever see him again. At least, not the same way. This shows how important the secret is to the guardians and the miraculous. That means that when the time comes that Marinette passes the guardianship to the next person, her memory will be gone too. Would she remember her moments of being Ladybug at least?
Now, as for the love square, I don’t know what to say. I’m very torn about this. I have mixed feelings about Kagami, and Luka is a sweet boy. This whole season finale has me wondering if this is how it’s all going to turn out. I’m still rooting for Adrienette, but this is getting complicated. They said we might finally get a confirmation in season 4 and I truly hope so. In all honesty, I’ve been worried about any upcoming relationship for Adrien anyway. After Chat Blanc, I started thinking; Would he ever have a relationship that would hold? So long as Gabriel is Hawkmoth and he has this much control of his son’s life, it will be hard for Adrien to have any sort of relationship with anyone, let alone with Marinette.
And then came the peacock miraculous. Gabriel has finally found a way to fix it and did it. So the question is, now that the miraculous is mended, what does this mean now?
And unfortunately, the next season will premiere next fall, so we will have to wait a while. I hope it appears sooner because I want to know what happens next so bad.
I guess it doesn’t look like Felinette will ever happen. I can
picture him with Lila.
I feel bad for Adrien. It turns out that this episode with the anniversary of his mom ‘going away.’ I believe that confirms that the overuse of the miraculous must have taken her life completely. It makes me feel bad for them even more.
Well, Gabriel has SOME good in him, I will give him that. The way he loves Emilie and with what he said to his son when Adrien thought about something else (Which felt really out of character for Gabriel, by the way) does show that he cares. Despite what happened in Chat Blanc, there are times when I admire his devotion. Although, when Adrien mentioned that he didn’t mind Nathalie dating his father, I thought it was adorable. And it seemed like another foreshadow for possibly the next season.
At any rate, the visiting family would explain the trailer. We found out that Emilie has a twin sister named Amelie. Thanks to her, we know that Emilie’s maiden name is Graham de Vanily (What a mouthful). And we get confirmation that Felix is not a sentimonster, but a distant cousin who disconnected himself because he lost his father. Unfortunately, it caused him to go through a rebellious stage. It does not surprise me in the least. A lot of kids his age will do stuff like that when they lose a parent around that time. I’m not saying it makes it excusable, but it’s understandable.
Felix is pretty different from what I would have pictured from the anime video. He still has a bit of that aloof attitude but a big troublemaker. By terrible, I mean that I wanted to strangle this kid for posing as Adrien to make a video of him acting like a jerk. It would figure that Gabriel saw an opportunity at that moment. Despite what I said in the first paragraph, I do wonder if Gabriel truly loves his son.
I was actually expecting a three-way Akuma instead of a return of three previous ones. And I certainly was not expecting Felix to try and work with Hawkmoth to get something out of it. But to think, Felix’s 'plan’ actually gave Ladybug a better idea for her Lucky Charm. The old run and trip on a rolling object trick; it still works. Now, isn’t that a happy little accident?
Do you know something? What happened with Amelie and Felix over those rings was very inappropriate. I can’t tell if they were there for support, or if Amelie just came back for the rings that Emilie had used for her and Gabriels wedding rings. They were the first thing she practically demanded when she talked to Gabriel, and on the first anniversary of her twin sister’s death. I mean, who does that? Not to mention that she says they were a part of her family and should stay with the family. What the hell is that supposed to mean? What does that make Adrien? That’s her nephew, for crying out loud! People like that drive me nuts. I can only imagine how different she is from Adrien’s mother.
I don’t know about you guys, but something tells me that we haven’t seen the last of Felix. And the look on his face at the end, the way he wanted to work with the villain to take down Chat Noir and Ladybug; have we got another potential candidate for the new Hawkmoth in the future?
I stand corrected from ‘Ladybug.’ Emilie would be ashamed of Gabriel for THIS.
I still do not know if I should be happy or upset. Marinette was actually smart to remember to sign her own name and Adrien FINALLY put two and two together. Heck, the number of dates and everything they went on showed the chemistry between them. So things would have gone great except for the need for an Akuma. Which means one thing; Gabriel Agreste, this is all your fault!
He decided to intervene and try to split them up to make Marinette another 'ultimate Akuma.’ And what does that get them? Adrien to reveal he’s Chat Noir right in front of Marinette with Nathalie and Nathalie tells Gabriel what happened, which makes things go from bad to worse.
Gabriel actually saw this as an opportunity to akumatize Adrien as Chat Noir to bring back his mother. And here I thought Gabriel would not have the heart to akumatize his own kid, but it made him that much more determined to reach his goal. You know what that says? It’s like he loves his wife more than his own child. I can never see a man who puts someone else’s life before his kid’s as a parent. Emilie would not want that for her child.
And what about this whole time travel shmeal that got this going? We had to find out the hard way that Chat Blanc started after Marinette actually did something right to get Adrien to notice her. Does this mean that the only way we would ever get an Adrienette confirmation is through an alternate universe? Or in this case, if Gabriel was not Hawkmoth?
Although, I would have been more satisfied seeing the look on Lila’s face when the dating thing did happen.
Need I do a ‘Spoiler, so read at risk.’ mantra again?
Okay, so to start, the way Felix looks is what I saw on a thumbnail months ago. I was not expecting that, to be honest. Because of how much he looked like Adrien, I thought it was a fanmade edit or something like that. It turns out that’s how he’s going to look in the episode, and boy, does that cause drama.
What I want to know is why he’s taking over Adrien’s life. Is there something about Adrien that he doesn’t like? It’s confusing because there was a part on the wiki site that said that Adrien stated that he and Felix were pretty close. And according to the episode description, he gets Rose, Juleka, and Alya akumatized. Seriously, what is going on?
And to top it all off, what happened with Ladybug? Felix must have made Adrien look like a playboy jerk or something. Which is going to make things harder between Marinette and Adrien’s friendship. Let alone make Marinette’s love for Adrien even more complicated.
Some people are theorizing that Felix might be a sentimonster or something. It might make sense because of the scene with Gabriel and his wife with their wedding rings. It was clear from that look on his face that he was plotting something. I could be wrong. Gabriel always looks so expressionless. Guess we have to wait and find out.
WARNING: This post contains season 3 spoilers of an episode that hasn’t aired yet. So if you want to read this, ‘Keep reading’ at your own risk.
Huh!? How!? Why!? WHAT!!?!??!?!
Okay, can I be straight here? We’ve had a lot of moments in a lot of episodes this season. Thomas Astruc put himself into the show and got akumatized. Marinette almost got akumatized on account of Lila framing her. They swapped Kwami’s. And we got Kagami, Luka, Kim, Alix, and Max as superheroes. But this episode where Chat Noir gets akumatized is INSANE!
For one thing, what did Marinette do that almost got her akumatized? And did you see how it was stopped? Adrien transformed right in front of her! You heard me; RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER!!! What will she think now? And what was that present she gave Adrien? Why am I thinking it has to do with the scarf from Bubbler?
And the part with Hawkmoth showing Emilie to Chat Noir is still running through my head! Does that mean that now he knows that Adrien is Chat Noir? Does he have plans for Adrien, and that’s how he became Chat Blanc? If so, was he akumatized willingly? What kind of fight went on that led to this?
And what’s Bunnix doing here? There has to be a time travel reason if she makes an appearance. Is she showing what could have happened if she let it go on? Is Chat Blanc just an alternate universe? Is she there to prevent Marinette from confessing her love or something? Will anyone answer my questions before the episode airs!?
Remember; Chat Blanc premieres on November 15th! Be sure to catch it, because I know I will!
And here I thought Tikki and Plagg were just spending time together. Instead, Plagg is THAT irresponsible because it turns out that the cause of the Akuma was partially his fault. Why would he just keep going to a classroom that just happens to have a plate of camembert every day? In what way does that not raise suspicion after a while? And to find out it was not the first time? For crying out loud, Plagg!
Now for the battle; Holy cow, that was amazing! An Akuma that takes kwami’s and it even took Tikki. Marinette didn’t even need a lucky charm to help her come up with the idea of gathering all of the other kwami’s for her plan. Hence, why she became Multimouse as well as merging the fox miraculous with the mouse miraculous. Everything that happened was genius. The only thing she needed with her lucky charm was a bowl to hold the Akuma until Chat Noir was gone.
And it looks like we have a confirmed power for the mouse miraculous; multitude. She can multiply into small parts of herself like a nest of mice. That would explain the multiple fusions. It was unexpected and genius. Not to mention that we also have confirmation of what most of the miraculous accessories are. For one thing, the ox miraculous is indeed a nose ring, and the pig miraculous turned out to be an anklet.
On a side note, Adrien was so close! He was actually onto Marinette being Ladybug, and then the Multimouse illusion happened. So close yet so far; it’s getting frustrating! Then again, they said that if they find out about each other’s identities, Ladybug and Chat Noir will be no more. They will need to return their miraculouses. This means no more heroes, Hawkmoth will reign, and things will get complicated. Now I have mixed feelings about it. Thanks a lot, you cheese craving pussycat!
And Jiminy Crickets, what is with that stupid banana costume? Is that going to be a regular thing from now on?
What else is there to say? A 30-second trailer filled with stuff to look forward to in the next episode of Miraculous Ladybug was released, and I want to see it as soon as the full episode comes out.
For one thing, Kwami Buster is identical to a ghostbuster. Seeing that and reading the title over again; how did I not put that together? It would only make sense.
And it looks like the Multimouse cameo is now confirmed to be this episode. But it looks like there’s more to it. For one thing, every kwami within that box is going to appear. What is going on to cause that? Is Marinette going to use all of those kwami’s? What were Plagg and Tikki doing away from Adrien and Marinette anyway? My mind is racing just thinking about it.
Now here’s my million dollar question; are we going to get a trailer for Chat Blanc anytime soon?
I don’t like gossipmongers who can’t take a hint. What is up with people getting into others personal business? I understand that when people are famous, privacy is a risk. Still though, instead of getting better understandings about situations, people tend to jump the gun without knowing the full story. Nadja is not the sleazy kind of journalist, so I can’t pin her as to what I’m talking about, but it’s annoying how people take a photo out of context and then some to make it look like the news everyone wants to see. Not to mention that Ladybug said a million times that she and Chat Noir were not a couple and Nadja still kept pushing the subject. It was like in one ear and out the other.
Nadja’s akumatization went both ways to me. I understand that the show did not go the way it should have with Chloe and seeing her daughter without her babysitter. Not to mention that her boss was not helping with the pressure. At the same time, Nadja was pushing a subject where she couldn’t take no for an answer. She tried too hard, and it pushed Ladybug away. I have to say her villain form was pretty different. Despite her name Prime Queen, she was robotic and digitized. Then again, it would make sense for that since her power was traveling by anything that had a screen. I wish she had more power than that, though.
The battle was kind of predictable. Going from one place to another and having a hostage here and there, all to make Ladybug and Chat Noir confirm themselves as a couple, which isn’t even the truth. How many time was Ladybug going to have to say it? Then she gets click baited, so to speak. The Lucky Charm was ducktape to block the TV screen with a cardboard box to lure her into the room, making her think that she was missing her proof that Ladybug and Chat Noir were together.
At least she got a happy ending with her talk show. From what I can see, she still gets to talk to famous people and get to know what goes on in their lives. Let’s just hope that we do not get a repeat of what happened with Ladybug anytime soon.
The things that happened in this episode were beyond my expectations.
Best place to start is with the sentimonster. Specifically, a sentimonster that was made and connected to Master Fu when he was in training as a guardian. So now we know what happened to the temple and how the peacock and butterfly miraculous’ went missing. At least it explains the regretful mistake Master Fu had to live with. Unfortunately, we had to watch Master Fu regret everything to the point of taking Adrien’s and Marinette’s miraculous’. I almost felt bad for him, but he should not keep on running from his past. Besides, Marinette and Adrien are not like most heroes. We knew they would succeed. ;)
The battle was unexpected. An akumatized sentimonster; that’s a new one. I know it seemed unnecessary because all it did was get bigger, so nothing changed. But keep in mind that Nathalie never made this particular monster. Hawkmoth had to control it somehow. Let’s just be glad that Feast did not turn on him as it did with Master Fu. By the way, about the Lucky Charm, the staff was made of metal? I thought it was hardwood and a magical orb. And of course, getting eaten was the only way out. I’m not exactly sure if they know that the sentimonster was Fu’s, but the only important thing now is that now we know how Gabriel knew his identity in Ikari Gozen.
Speaking of which, we got more information about Adrien’s mothers’ condition having to do with the peacock miraculous. What we still need to know is how the damage happened to the brooch in the first place. I believe that it has to have something to do with Emilie and Gabriel since he did talk about fixing a mistake in Party Crasher. And what about Master Fu choosing Marinette to be the new guardian? I think that was a theory a long time ago. If it was, it’s confirmed. She just has to be careful around Alya. She’s getting more and more clever the more the show goes on (If only she was this clever with Lila).
That reminds me; thanks to someone commenting a point out on Youtube (Shoutout to YouTuber ‘It’s Chanyeol’s Fault’), I realized something. The miracle box with the miraculous’ seemed to be one of the few boxes in the temple. Now that the temple is back, this means that there will be MORE miraculous’! And since this was a part of the zodiac, there could be others! Which means we have even more of this show to look forward to!
Okay, when I read about this episode having to do with space, this is not what I was expecting.
So in this episode, we get to meet another parent; Max’s mother, Claudie Kante, a train driver who dreams of traveling to space. During most of the episode, she was keeping an eye on her watch for emails about her space training, to see if she qualified to go to space. Her impatience got the better of her and got her akumatized, taking the train with the passengers into space with her. A planetarium would have been one thing, taking the train to space? Now that’s out of this world, so to speak.
What was not expected is that she ended up being an Akuma out of Hawkmoth’s range of control. As it turns out, the further away the Akuma is, the less connection Hawkmoth has to it. Meaning Hawkmoth only partially had to do with what happened. Startrain was just out of his control.
Then there’s the matter of the horse miraculous. As it turns out, the miraculous is a pair of glasses, which explains the sunglasses being the mask for the hero. And as revealed in Party Crasher, it has the power of teleportation. I still love Max’s look as a hero. I still picture no one but Blade, the vampire hunter when I see that look. Also, that techno music for his transformation reminded me of Danny Phantom. Although, the robot dancing when the transformation was complete might have been a bit much.
And of course, let’s not forget how Adrinette is another step closer. Marinette ended up falling asleep on Adrien’s shoulder. And instead of pushing her away, he falls asleep with her. That was perfect progress. Everyone was happy for them. Well, all but Lila. If it hadn’t been for Alya and Sabrina, Lila would’ve ruined the moment. It’s really satisfying when her lies backfire on her.
So we had new characters and new traits. As well as a new discovery about the enemy and gained a new helpful ally. Not to mention that the episode was set somewhere outside of Paris for a change. I would not mind a few more episodes like that. All in all, this episode had some perks.
My guts have been twisting and turning throughout the whole episode.
I’ve been taking this episode one step at a time the first 5 minutes when the theme song was over. Everything that Lila has done in the fanfictions I’ve read actually happened in the show. The test answers, framing for theft, even falling down the stairs (I did not think that one was ever going to be used). It especially hurt me that most of Marinette’s classmates still believed Lila instead of Marinette. Even her own parents didn’t make it better after the expulsion. At least Alya proved me wrong on her loyalty (By the by, how did she not notice the necklace being a fox miraculous lookalike? That would have proved her wrong about Lila). If this is how they treat their ‘everyday Ladybug’ over someone they just met, then none of them are the friends I hoped they were.
And of course, leave it to Gabriel to go Hawkmoth and use it to his advantage. I did not think for a minute that Natalie was going to return as Catalyst. Let alone that everyone’s fury against Marinette, her parents’ disappointment, and Marinette’s injustice was going to be his big plan with Lila and Marinette. I am so mixed at the fact that Marinette was almost akumatized by Scarlet Moth. Had Nathalie not still be affected by the aftereffects of the peacock miraculous, Gabriel would have been that much closer. I just hope Lila didn’t notice Marinette almost taking off her earrings.
And what about the sentimonster? I assumed it was going to be Marinette’s sentimonster after all of the BS she was put through because of Lila. Then Lila’s lies would be exposed, and her reign would come to an end. Instead, it was Nathalie trying to prove herself worthy of the peacock miraculous to help Gabriel. But it was interesting that the sentimonster Ladybug changed sides after knowing she was a good person.
I still feel sick every time I see Lila get away with something and people still cannot see the obvious that would disprove her claims. Gabriel may need Akuma’s to bring back his wife, but he has no idea what it might all really cost him. In my opinion, Emilie would be ashamed. Especially since he has someone like Lila of all people controlling who Adrien’s friends should be.
But let me tell you. Adrien at the end, the way he defended Marinette and told off Lila, I was so proud and surprised. All I was thinking about was that he needed to grow a backbone, and he did. You can tell he’s had enough of Lila and her lies. I’ve never heard him sound so peeved. He almost seemed… evil.
Marinette has gotten me mentally exhausted throughout this episode.
I didn’t think I was paying attention to the Akuma fight because of the situation going on here. But I have to say; for a music-based Akuma, it really looked like a skeleton from Dias de Los Muertos. And she was able to make any weapon she wanted with her guitar case. That would explain the horn in the Gamer 2.0 episode. Although… you know what? I’m not even going to talk about the saddle. That did not feel necessary for the lucky charm to be honest. I would’ve gone with a recording of the harp to distract Desperada.
I really don’t think Marinette was fair to Luka in this episode at all. No offense, everyone. I like Adrien, but Marinette putting him first throughout this whole episode was out of control. She was trying to prove her feelings to Adrien so much that she was practically ignoring Luka. For one thing, she recommended him to play guitar with Jagged Stone instead of Luka. Luka said that he’s been playing since he was a baby and Adrien doesn’t play that kind of instrument. He’s a pianist, for crying out loud.
And then the snake miraculous; that’s how Adrien became Aspik? Because Marinette did it again? I really ought to cry about this and Adrien was not any better. And the fact that he did the Second Chance over 25,000 times; the miraculous has the power to go back in time. Doesn’t he know how dangerous that is? He only should have done it the first 10. Most of the time, he was too focused on impressing Ladybug and being romantic. Man, do I want to scream! Would it kill this boy to pay attention to the fight?
At least Luka was being responsible with the snake miraculous. He focused on the goal, he knew what he had to fight for, and his transformation was fun and sassy like he owned it. And come on, a lyre for a weapon? He was made for it. He’s got a cool name to boot; Viperion. I do not doubt that it was based on the Greek God of light, Hyperion. I never would have thought of a name like that. It’s perfect.
I have to agree with Kagami about one thing: a choice has to be made soon. The only thing I want out of whichever she chooses, Marinette will not be as biased as she was in this episode.
Well, the episode started with Chloe being her usual self. Go figure. Let me just say that the principal needs to grow a spine. Like Adrien did. I was impressed that he called Chloe off on her attitude. I’m surprised it took him this long. I mean, he’s the only person throughout the whole show that Chloe would listen to. So Chloe spends her time in this episode trying to do the one thing she thinks is a chore; being nice. Otherwise, her friendship with Adrien is gone (So proud, Adrien).
It would figure that her best way to do it is a party. What is it with parties being a solution? Why not start small with something like paying it forward or lending a helping hand? And most of the time, she’s acting like she’s being possessed. Well, in a way, she was. Her butler was watching her the whole time with her teddy bear as a motivation to keep trying. Is being nice that big of an issue with Chloe? (Don’t answer that).
It was only a matter of time before she started to break. And it was at her butler for trying to help. Then again, he was the one that embarrassed her by exposing her teddy bear secret out in the open with that baby voice. Using that voice to talk for Chloe’s bear was pretty embarrassing, but I don’t see what the big deal is about having a teddy bear anyway. We all have a sense of comfort somehow. Chloe’s bear just doesn’t make her feel so alone.
Now Despair Bear; not really my favorite. If anything, I think it’s kind of cute. The puppetry as its power was rather unexpected, but it does have a disadvantage since it can only control one person at a time, so the power was limited. The only good part of it was that Chloe was nice enough to help Ladybug defeat it by saving her from Chat Noir’s Cataclysm and use the Lucky Charm to undo its strings. Ay-aye-aye.
Now quick question; Despair Bear had an opportunity to control Chat Noir. So why didn’t Despair bear control him into leaving the building and taking off the ring? The Black Cat Miraculous would’ve been taken that easily. And how was Despair Bear going to win anyway with it being so small? None of this was thought through very well. It was worth seeing Chloe try to act nice while it lasted, but the Akuma could’ve been better.
But at least the episode was worth getting to see Marinette slow dance with Adrien. Progress!
Can I start by saying that I liked how it began with Luka and Juleka bonding as brother and sister? I love those sibling moments in the shows I watch, and we don’t see Luka and Juleka together a lot. I have actually been hoping for one for some time now and if this might be the only moment I get, so be it. Besides, I have always pictured Luka to be a caring older brother. Right now, he just made me wish I had an older brother like that. And Juleka looks cute with her bangs clipped up.
Back to the episode, we finally get some clarification on what caused the Akuma. As it turns out, Juleka wants to be a model, but she’s very insecure in herself to do a casting. And the one time, she spoke up, she got camera shy. It was not fair that Marinette tried to tell Juleka that she should model another time instead of comforting her and Alya’s idea with Marinette and Adrien modeling didn’t help either, but at least that explains why she and Adrien were wearing the same clothes as well as what happened to Plagg and Tikki. By the by, I thought Juleka rocked the outfit better.
So by ‘not fight alone’ as it said in the description, it meant the sentimonster, but not Mayura showing up. I was not expecting Reflekdoll to be like a ship. Or for the wheel to be from her hair clip. Now is it just me or does Reflekdoll look kind of cool? The beam was kind of predictable though. I wish that Reflekta or Reflekdoll had an upgrade of some kind.
Now about the best part; the kwami swap! Marinette being called Lady Noir is confirmed, but instead of Adrien being called Lordbug as I’ve read in fanfics, his name is Mr. Bug. I’m not sure how I feel about that. It sounds like a Sesame Street character. Marinette looks gorgeous with the Cat Miraculous. You can see some of the Chinese clothing elements on her outfit to compliment her heritage. I wasn’t expecting her to have green eyes. I thought because her eyes were blue, her entire eyes would be blue, but green being the miraculous’s second color, I suppose it just stuck. Come to think of it she does not even have that bell. And Adrien as Mr. Bug, kind of mixed. He starts acting the same way Marinette did when she first got the Ladybug earrings. The downside is that compared to Marinette, Adrien is not creative like that at all. They both found out what the Lucky Charm was really for by accident. And what’s more, they actually acted like each other here and there. All in all, Marinette’s got it made for both Miraculous’s, but Adrien was only made for Chat Noir.
We also got to meet Duusu. She’s a bit more lively than I thought she would be. After seeing the picture of Duusu crying, I thought she would be a little more overly sensitive, or something like that (I’m assuming it’s a girl.) Speaking of, did you guys see how the peacock miraculous glitched before Nathalie transformed? And it’s not doing anything to Duusu. I assumed it had to do with an injured or sick kwami. If Duusu isn’t the case, then what happened to the peacock miraculous?
Okay, let’s be honest. Most of us saw this coming.
So in this episode, Hawkmoth’s true identity is revealed. As we all know, at least for those who are up to this episode by now, Hawkmoth’s secret identity is none other than… Adrien’s father, Gabriel Agreste. We had to have seen this coming at some point in time. In Simon Says, Hawkmoth thought the Akuma going after Gabriel was risky. Why would Gabriel getting caught by a villain be any risk to him unless he was Gabriel himself? The next clue being the book of heroes that Adrien found in Volpina. It’s rather dubious that it was a coincidence that he just happened to have an ancient book of each miraculous and the heroes. Although, I think his brand logo being a butterfly was just an accident.
The minute he found out about it being missing, he had a feeling that it would make Ladybug and Chat Noir lead to him. His solution; akumatize himself to keep Ladybug and Chat Noir from suspecting him. I feel like this tactic was used before, but I can’t remember where. Even so, it was a clever diversion, considering how he would even guess that Ladybug and Chat Noir would even know about it.
Now as for the Akuma, it was a clever plan of deflection, playing another victim of Hawkmoth. Although, I’m not too big on the design concept for the Collector. Was it supposed to represent a dark tuxedo or something? And what’s with the sunglasses? Fashion design these days are so abstract. However, I do like the idea of using a sketchbook to absorb various objects.
Although, one of the downsides of a sketchbook, and as an artist, I feel this same pain, is that it can carry so much. Ladybug’s Lucky Charm came in handy for that one. I was not expecting a bike pedal. I thought it was unusual until I saw what it was used for. It was to fill up every page in his sketchbook before Ladybug or Chat Noir could get absorbed. I liked that.
Then there came the situation on what to do with the book. Marinette decided to throw herself under the bus to return the book after showing it to Master Fu. I’m really not sure that was the best idea. Sure, she could have mentioned Lila, but how was she going to explain that without making it sound like she was spying on them? Thinking about it some more, she also could have told him that she came across it in the trash can Lila threw it in as she was throwing something away in the park. At least she wasn’t banned from seeing him or anything because of it.
I gotta be frank about something. This was the first episode of a new season for the show, and the villain’s identity was already revealed. I can’t tell if I think that it was either rushed or perfect timing. And only one thing keeps playing in my head; the look on Adrian’s face when Ladybug said his father was a suspect of being Hawkmoth. I can only think of how betrayed he will feel when they find out it was all true.
Talk about the perfect example of the phrase, ‘sly as a fox.’
Let’s start this review off with how the episode started. So it turns out that Gabriel, Adrien’s father, carries a book of what most of our miraculous heroes looked like in the past. It seemed rather interesting. The real question is how Gabriel had it in the first place.
So in the episode, we get a new character; Lila Rossi, a transfer student from Italy, not said where in Italy, and we see that this girl is a pathological liar. Unfortunately, it turns out that she is a thief too. She duped Adrien and took his father’s book without him noticing. As it turned out, she stole Adrien’s book right under his nose so she could use it to make a fake miraculous in a jewelry shop. She even lied and said that she was a descendant of the fox hero, Volpina. Didn’t Adrien notice that Lila claims to be Ladybug’s best friend, but then calls her out on being less important than the fox? Not to mention that if Lila was a superhero, why would she just blatantly give away her identity to a boy that she just met? This is one of those moments where Adrien is lucky he’s handsome because he is not the sharpest needle in the haystack.
Jealousy really does do a number on people in general. Marinette completely chewed out Lila as Ladybug in front of Adrien. I understand that she was jealous and Lila was getting out of hand with her lies, but Marinette could have done it more professionally instead of downright humiliating her. She could have just pretended to be passing by and say hi to Adrien and ask who his friend was or something. And now once again, she caused someone to get akumatized again. Then again, part of it was also on Lila for claiming to know Ladybug in the first place.
It’s honestly too bad that she was a villain instead of a hero. Because I really like Volpina’s look. It has a modern Eastern look to it. It’s highly doubtful that it was the exact image like the one in the book, but it was nice to look at. I love what it did to her hair the most. The ombre look from brown to white with the orange in between was pretty and fitting to the fox image. Not to mention the name, ‘Volpina.’ It has a nice ring to it.
Of course, when it comes to illusions, it’s usually simple to tell the real ones from the fakes. Part of it is that you have to be able to touch them. Another one, in this case, one of them would have to react to something, like a blinding light. Although, if the Lucky Charm was to blind the villain, why didn’t it summon a mirror?
I’d like to say the battle had a happy ending, but that would be another lie. Ladybug apologized for her behavior. That means she acknowledges her mistake and admits she was wrong, so that shows maturity. Lila, on the other hand, could have apologized back since she started this by being dishonest from the beginning. Instead, she rejected Ladybug, saying that one thing was true; they would never be friends. You know, I pity people like Lila. She must be insecure if she has to lie to people to make herself seem more exciting.
However, there were some silver linings to this. For one thing, a book containing past miraculous holders. Could they have been the first? Another being that Marinette finally meets the man that helped her become Ladybug; Master Fu, Guardian of the Miraculous.
