Hi, I'm having a problem where I'm never happy with my work or I'm happy with it at first but I slowly start to hate or. Any tips for basic drawing?
On top of being our own worst critics, when an artist makes something, we have to stare at that thing constantly, usually for hours while we do. I believe that combination of things is what creates that eventual distaste. Or at least it certainly contributes to it. Looking at your art for so long will allow you to conciously or subconciously nitpick the shit out of it. I’m not quite sure how to combat that feeling, but if you’re struggling with something like that, maybe you could write yourself some notes. You could write down things you’d fix, so you can remember them in the future, and you could also write yourself some compliments. What did you do well in that last piece? What’s your favorite part of it? You’re art doesn’t have to live up to any standards, and it’s important to not hold yourself to unrealistic expectations. My basic drawing tips would include things that you’d probably hear everywhere. Practice as often as you can, use references, and draw the stuff that you want to draw!
