Hey all!

I’m back with an update, albeit a small one. I overestimated how much time I could put into this, Black Diary and classes/meetings.

There were 5 things I wanted to tackle for this update, 2 of which I’m going to have to put off until next month.

So what’s new?

Changelog:

• ‘the girls’ now have silhouettes
• 4 new, short Hibari events (2 roof, 2 neighbor between 25 and 75+ Hibari points)
• 3 new Japanese lessons

Karaoke Neighbor was originally a  KHR fanfic I started in high school with my OCs and Hibari Kyoya. 2018 I turned it into a (visually bad) dating sim.

I saw the volume 10 cover (I think) of Welcome to the Ballroom and I was like ‘who???’ (does the mc get a glow up? I have no idea. But he was pretty)

My entry for NaNoRenO2020 was Now Accepting: Roommate, which I suppose the idea for just kind of happened. I don’t really remember what the thought process was at the time lol. 

So basically Riya - our beautiful MC- was a college student when she encountered her roommates in a very awkward situation. After she graduated, so thought ‘yeah, roommates, maybe not my thing. I’ll live alone this time.’ And yet a year later, here she is looking for a roommate.

What I released is just a demo. You go through the interview process for the guys that applied and choose which one you vibe with the most.

The idea is that you either become friends, lovers, or something else entirely (will not elaborate on that one.) Just… someone may be kinda sus. 

If you like, you can check it out. I have no immediate plans to continue, but I’ll work on it again one day. I already started redesigning the characters because I ended up hating the style I chose for their sprites.

I ended up giving a little more priority to Karaoke Neighbor because I want to enter it into Finally Finish Something game jam. It’s technically already done, but visually it’s terrible, so I have to go back in and redo everything, and if I have time I’ll tweak the story a little bit. If not, then story for sure will have it’s own update. 

I’m aiming at this update being released by 1/31. Here are some things I’ve been working on.

The is an animation test for Natalia’s sprite. Created in Adobe Character Animator because I’ve had the CC for years and I forget to use this, so why not.

This one is near and dear to my heart. Not sure why, haha. But I love it all the same. 

So Karaoke Neighbor is a fan fiction I started in high school based off of the world of Katekyo Hitman Reborn/KHR. It’s basically my OC Estell trying to romance Hibari.

In 2018 I decided to turn it into a dating sim after I kept mentioning in my author’s notes that I liked the idea. Now, if you haven’t read my post about Black Diary, the tl:dr is that art from 2017-2019-ish sucked. Still, I was proud of my first dating sim with semi complex scripting (it was my first or second time using Ren’py, which can take python.)

This game will also be getting a remake/remaster, but I don’t have an ETA for it. I want to prioritize Black Diary with this being a close second.

When I’m not making crappy visual novels, I’m actually making some pretty cool mobile games with different teams of people for the Massachusetts based company, MassDigi.

Our latest game, Pluto’s Ascent was created remotely during the summer (Covid did not slow us down! woo!) It’s a card based RPG where you play as the banished planet Pluto, as you battle your way through the solar system in a tournament and try to restore your honor.

If you’ve ever heard of the Italian card game Scopa, it’s got mechanics loosely based from that.

I started off as lead animator and UI designer, then after became lead artist and product owner.

So let’s start off with my oldest, yet most worked on project, Black Diary. I created Black Diary for a game jam for visual novels (SuNoFes) back in 2017. 

Now a thing to know about me is that I stopped creating art for years due to being too busy/stressed with working in the military. So when I did decide to go back to art, it was trash. It was trash for a few years. Hell, even now I’ll look at a recent piece and hate it. 

But I digress. 

Black Diary was originally a weird story I started in high school (many, many years ago) that was inspired by the MMO Flyff at the time. I was playing the game, and I noticed all of a sudden that everyone was gone. They just disappeared. And it really creeped me out. I was probably kicked from the server or something, but I didn’t know that at the time. So what did teenage me want to do? Write a story about it. 

The story at the time was about a girl named Shihan who was exploring an abandoned town, and she’d meet some people along the way. I never did get to that part, though.

So let’s go to present day. I’ve been working on the project off and on for years, but recently I started being more serious with it. It’ll get a remake by the end of the year (I’m putting that into the world.)

I decided to start fresh with a new blog on here. I really though Tumblr was dead, but I notice that game devs (specifically the one’s who make visual novels and/or otome) still run their blogs. So I’ll give it another go.
