Trying to enjoy my (very socially-distanced, as safe as possible, etc.) vacation/traveling this week, but Light On Me chose violence today with that particularly GIFable episode…😤
the difference between daon and shinwoo is that shinwoo figured out who he was a long time ago, which is also what gave him time to understand and accept himself, whereas daon is just starting that journey. but both of their journeys began with their “friends” telling them it’s weird to like another boy and being bullied/spreading rumors about it. they both had/have to figure out how to be themselves and accept it while the world tells them it’s wrong being them.
i see hate thrown around between the characters just because of a love triangle, but you also have to understand how hard and complicated the whole process is, especially when you live in a country where being who you are is not very accepted. yes, love doesn’t wait for anyone, but i think the most important thing we should take from this drama is the journey people go through when finding and accepting themselves, as well as finding good friends who will love you and accept you no matter what.

I’m sorry, but you can’t hide this in the tags
You’re all a delight to have
i for one think that editors/gifmakers should get free 1080p+ versions of media directly from the source without fear of copyright conseuqences bc we do free labor to advertise and keep buzz around shows. do you know how many times i’ve seen tags that are like oh maybe i’ll watch bc of this on my gifs or times i’ve watched something that was not on my radar at all, that i didn’t even know about, because of a gifset? the amount of times a fanvideo has convinced me or my friends to watch something? or to consider an aspect of the show i didn’t before and reignite interest in it and thus continue to talk about it?
I know you’re probably the wrong person to ask this of since you’re team Daon all the way, but like I’m really scared that exactly what they’re trying to do. I don’t understand people who say Shinwoo is endgame when it all so clearly points at Daon, after seeing the preview for next episode it just all points to Shinwoo being a catalyst for Daon to maybe be more proactive in his pursuit of happiness with Tae and idk. Please play the devils advocate or tell me why you’re scared it’s gonna be team Shinwoo endgame
Oh, it’s Shinwoo in the end. He’s been pining and in love and Daon is scared of coming out.
Okay, okay, let me try to explain this a bit better.
First, tropes. One big trope in BL is that the piner wins. I understand that this is also very true in Korean dramas in general? The longer you pine, the more likely you are to get the boy.
Second, narrative. This not a narrative pointing towards Daon suddenly taking all of the steps needed to be comfortable with himself, with being out and with being with Taekyung. That’s a lot he’d have to go through, including convincing Taekyung to forgive him, for how the show has moved so far.
Third, experience. Look, the way the show frames them… Daon is the first love but Shinwoo is the one that truly sees and loves Taekyung in this moment and is ready to act on this.
For me, almost nothing points at Daon as true endgame. Because he’s more of an obstacle, he’s got so many obstacles. And Shinwoo might be telling him to step up but that doesn’t mean Daon will or even can.
There’s just the way Shinwoo looks at Taekyung and the way Daon looks at him and I just… I want the ending where Daon is able to grow into himself and to find love with Taekyung.
But that’s not the ending I see happening.
I mean, actually, I want a polyship ending with all three of them but that’s not even in the cards in the slightest.
