Why Erets character did the betrayal the best and why his character is one of the most narratively well written motive wise:
Rp//
(Disclaimer: this isn’t saying that the other characters betrayals weren’t good nor does it mean their characters aren’t good. It’s not even a critical piece, it is more so to show how Erets betrayal was well preformed and expanded upon)
To begin with lets set the scene of each of the three main betrayals on the server.
Erets was set during the first L'manburg war.
Wilburs was set during November 16th.
Nikis was set during Doomsday.
Now let’s go into the main difference between Erets betrayal and the other two. They all are set during a big war moment, their betrayals are all cause to the greater lose of L'manburgs side, even the same line is uttered amongst the three of them “It was never meant to be”.
The three main factors to attribute to this difference include the Build up, Motive and aftermath.
Something that helped to make Erets betrayal more impactful and gut wrenching was the lack of build up. For both Wilbur and Nikis betrayals we hear that there is a traitor amongst them. This is great to build paranoia within characters and to set a more distrustful atmosphere, but due to this prior suspicion there will guarantee the notion of being unsurprised by the outcome. One could argue that Wilburs betrayal was effective because Dream said “It’s someone you wouldn’t expect” everyone kept going on about completely different characters to the point where it made the expected ones least expected. However, that doesn’t mean that there still weren’t people who suspected his character. In fact it only furthered people’s prior thoughts on his traitorhood. Where Erets betrayal prospered was her ability to have no one expect it. There was no prior mention of a traitor and her prior involvement in L'manburg made it very surprising. This lack of a hint to suspect a traitor not only helped to cement the shock factor of it but also furthered the idea to the viewers that if Eret could be a traitor then who couldn’t be one.
Next we have Motive. This is point goes more into opinon based up your preferences towards media but from a analysis standpoint is how I will be doing it. Wilburs motive to be a ‘traitor’ spawned from him being thrown out of his home and fell into paranoia and insanity. He felt as if he no longer had a place to call home and that his previous home was the spawn of all the problems he had now. Nikis was being left out and forgotten by other characters. She believed that she was grieving L’Manburg by herself so she was mad. Both of these make sense as to why the characters would act the way in which they did, but where they lacked was payoff. We didn’t know what their characters truly gained from betraying L'manburg. Was it self satisfaction? Was it revenge? Was it retribution? This is where I think Erets characters motives tend to be better for us as an audience. Erets motive was power. He got the throne to the SMP and power as King. We don’t have to guess and speculate motive. We don’t have to try to justify their actions. They betrayed people and we can acknowledge that. The hurt felt by the betrayal was real and hurt to watch but we didn’t have to question why they did it. When motives are clear, justified or not, we as viewers can understand why they do what they did and no longer have to watch in a state of confusion. Another thing to note is the nature of their betrayal. Nikis and Wilburs both seem as if they are doing it for the betterment of everyone. If L'manburg isn’t there then everyone will be better. Erets motive was selfish which made it beautiful. (This part is more personal but the fact that she did it for herself which is seen as an evil intention later on in the series just really tied in the narrative similarities that made the betrayal relate to the selfless actions later on.)
Finally we have the aftermath. This one is probably the most noteable difference amongst the three of them. Wilbur died. He did his deed and then at his pleads his father killed him execution style. Niki went to Jack to try to kill Tommy which then lead to her joining the syndicate and now she’s working on her underground city again. Neither of them truly had to face the brunt of their betrayal. Wilbur was able to 'escape’ direct consequences for his actions through his death whereas Nikis actions weren’t ever really addressed by those she directly affected the most. Erets betrayal took months to even gain forgiveness from those most affected. Eret was excluded from L'manburg activities and viewed only as the traitor by the others. Their arc began as a way to regain the lost connections they had while also acknowledging that they don’t regret their actions. From Pogtopia where they tried to help Wilbur and Tommy to the day on the path before the final disc war where they were finally acknowledged as the true king. They had to work to regain what once was lost , to bring back what once was theirs. This drive helped to set up a great progression of motives for their character. This is their motive and growth as a character. Learning how to apologize while also understanding why you don’t have to feel as if your own actions were unjustified.
Again this isn’t diminishing the others betrayals because they were quite well done in their own way. What I’m essentially trying to say is that the way in which Erets was done and the overall storyline that diverges from it just make it the most effective one plot wise. Also I just really wanted to make an analysis praising Erets character :D
trying to talk about anything involving timelines and characters’ histories with each other on the smp is the big rock that we all try to desperately roll up a hill until one of the ccs opens their mouths again, and wilbur and fundy are Particularly the worst rat bastards when it comes to this
but,,,, for just a moment I wanna picture something here
lets take some details here: - fundy was Apparently born in l’manberg despite, Everything. even if you use the theory that he grows Very quickly fundy was On the smp Before l’manberg was created. this could translate to fundy being born on the Land that would become l’manberg during wilbur’s travels there.
- tommy was an orphan (who may or may not have been created in a lab) who canonically thought of wilbur as an older brother and who, according to ghostbur, was named By wilbur.
- wilbur trying to make his character 40 is a, somewhat understandable attempt to iron out the thing with fundy being an adult without magic fox aging powers, but it ultimately creates more problems than it solves. fundy was still canonically born when l’manberg was created (and all the problems that causes fsjdkl) and wilbur having a brother relationship with a 16 year old as a 40 year old who he is Not related to is just kinda, Odd. maybe not on tommy’s end but you’d think wilbur would be more inclined to see tommy as more like a Son than a brother when he’s more than twice his age. so…..
- sally Already had a child when wilbur fell in love with her, who he adopted when something, uh, Happened to her (we will Not acknowledge canon implied vore). wilbur as a young adult raising his son and running into feral little tommyinnit who doesn’t have a name and doesn’t remember his parents and slowly pulling him into his little family.
- tommy and fundy with something closer to a Sibling relationship,,,,,,,,,,,,,
- please for the love of god picture little raccoon!hybrid tommy and little fundy cuddling together, You Must
So this is really old meta because I’m still catching up and I’m sure it was covered before but I was curious so I looked it up and now I want to share my thoughts
So when Dream was putting obsidian around L'manburg he said that the treaties no longer applied because technically it was run by Pogtopia.
And Ranboo replied with this:
“If a treaty is made with a country and the same country gets a new type of government reform then the treaty still applies” - Ranboo
This made me curious so I actually looked it up! Its a situation that has to have happened in real life after all, right? And it turns out there is!
I found a document, Revolutions and Treaty Terminations from the Penn State Law eLibrary, talking about trying to change what is currently a very inflexible law – it also helped because it covered the reasons things are done the way they are done currently
The long and short of it though, is that the L'manburg treaties definitely should still have been in place! And it shows that Dream really didn’t care about the legality of his actions, and only the thinnest of excuses to do what he wanted.
Honestly, anyone saying that Miraculous hasnt improved or that the writting is bad is not watching the same show
Like, Gang of Secrets was literally a big wall text and it could have been horrible delivered, but instead we got very organic emotions and reactions, in both the characters and worldbuilding.
This episode handled really well the weight/burden of being a young superhero and not being able to tell your closest ones the truth, the loneliness it causes until your reach your boiling point.
So, personally, big kudos to the writers for this episode
HEY here’s phil and techno’s comms + a little anatomy thing of what the buttons do?? thank you guys for all the support, it’s been so overwhelming and i appreciate all of it~
We are very happy to have you here! Twitter is the Worst so make sure to take care of yourselves.
Some Tumblr etiquette:
Please remember to reblog posts you like especially art! Its the only way that post is going to get attention!
TW and CW’s go in the tags. You can add them at the top of your post, but please make sure you also put them in the tags! You can block tags in settings, so you never have to see a post with that content.
Please do not tag your mcyt or dream smp stuff with “minecraft” “mineblr” or even “philza minecraft” Anything with minecraft will show up in the minecraft tags and the poor mineblr community trying to vibe with their really cool builds and aesthetic photos will have to deal with it. just keep it out of your tags please!
I don’t think sending asks or submitting posts is a thing on twitter? but you can do that! There should be a little section under a blogs bio to send asks. You have the option to send asks anonymously (unless the blog owner has turned off their anon) in case you’re a bit shy.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANON HATE, OR HATE OF ANY KIND!! Don’t be weird or gross! Just block the person and move on!
