Inside-Out’s first feature is painter, Ellie Caudill of East Nashville. The first time I met Ellie, she was sitting on her porch smoking cigarettes and painting funny portraits over already existing paintings. The porch was a messy array of paints, brushes and other finished paintings. (If it helps to get a visual, or triggers a memory of even seeing Ellie, it was the porch of the house across from Rosepepper that went up on free craigslist for anyone willing to move it.) I was enthralled by this girl’s bubbly nature and laid-back necessity to get color onto a canvas. After she was forced out of the free craigslist casa, I went to her new place to take a few shots of her painting in her studio space. Upon arriving, I was once again inundated with creative energy as I had been on the porch that day. With our powers combined and a few mimosas, once we started shooting, we couldn’t stop. It began with a Little Caesar’s pizza. No, we didn’t eat that crap; she painted it. Her Instagram is @pinkpizzza, so obviously it would be essential that I bring a za and some pink paint. She even painted the basketball she’s holding while wearing a Valentino dress and a Chicago bulls hat. We ended up doing eight different looks. Our appetites for real pizza eventually kicked in, bringing our fun to a close. Jota Ese (John Stout) of Day old Records released Super Dank III on 4/20…the dankest daze of days, perhaps? I got the opportunity to do the album artwork, so I excitedly made an easter nug sculpture. I put Super Dank III on last night while making dinner and couldn’t help but shake my hips while chopping garlic. It’s actually perfect for preparing dinner. It’s perfect for after dinner as well if ya know what I mean. It’s smooth and groovy but has a bump to it. It’s also visually stimulating with video done by Terry Larkin. Nashville band, Majestico just released their first album with ATO records yesterday. This band of brothers has much charisma and little fear. Most of all, this band has style. Style is a hard thing to come by for some, and for few it comes easy. For Majestico, the style organically poured from the pores of a sweat that smells like eating too much rock and roll. Front man, Graham Fitzpenn himself made the headdress that appears in the trailer. I truly believe that it’s one of those pieces that holds a great energy from all the good vibes experienced in days past. It’ll be worth something in some private collection one day. The band’s style may come easy, but the release was a struggle due to Nashville names we won’t mention that got in the way. In the end, the spirit of Majestico overcame with a warrior approach and a sassy hand on the hip. The devil fights hard for the good shit. Majestico music can be enjoyed by all on iTunes. Check it out; seriously. A few LUNA PYRA pieces can be spotted in the trailer as well!
