you know what’s embarrassing? the fact that you all still can’t let harry potter die in a ditch. its embarrassing that you can’t stop reading or consuming content for a mediocre (at best, honestly, it’s not even well written and it’s cliche) series, it’s embarrassing that you still want to buy that video game, it’s embarrassing that you want to watch the HBO Max show. And no, I don’t care if you pirate those things or thrift those books or whatever, because that just shows that you’ll bend over backwards for a racist, antisemitic, transmisogynistic author instead of supporting authors of color, jewish authors, or trans authors. there are so many actual well written fantasy series out there, it’s all been done before and will be done again better. i don’t care how important this series was when you were 11. you’re 20 now, take the hogwarts house out of your bio and MOVE ON
You know what’s embarrassing? This post.
Yes, the Harry Potter bubble is real and yes, people really should move on from it already. But hating the author just because blue checkmarks on Twitter tell you to? Sorry, but that’s not a valid excuse to shame someone for their fandom.
I mean, it’s clear to anyone who has common sense that JKR isn’t actually a transphobe at all, but can somebody explain to me why people think she’s also a racist now?
The only “antisemitism” accusation I’ve ever seen put forward is some baseless assumption that the goblin race are Jewish coded, but the only thing that proves is that whoever is making such a comparison must believe that being greedy and having goblinesque features are Jewish traits, so you’re kind of playing yourselves with that one.
Also, please stop trying to normalize the idea that a book’s worth should be based solely on what color, race, or gender an author is to begin with. If everybody did nothing but virtue-signal for a handful of minority authors, then writing anything of quality or substance would be rendered utterly meaningless.
I’m tired of hearing about this. Stop letting social media tell you what to think, and just read whatever you want.
