Oh! I have an idea. What of you use the mini chibis from the 50 years of MGs post and maybe add a few newer ones. After the tournament for those MG leads you can do an awards ceremony -similar to your annual wrap ups. With awards for the highest ranked leads of their respective decades, most popular of their respective sub-genre (heroine, idol, witch, dark, mecha, MB, etc.), maybe even an honorable mentions section for your personal favs.
That could work and most of the art would be ready already. If there’s different categories it would be possible to highlight more shows than the most well known ones!
Winx club has a huge collection of magical outfits. If you ever draw them, they can make for a good tournament.
It definitely has enough transformations for a tournament alone. Maybe a similar beauty pageant style format I’m planning for Precure now? That sounds like it could be a thing.
The dark skinned girl from 6hearts princess is actually the purple princess(teamed with the yellow and green princess) the black princess has always been pale
(referencing a 6HP discussion in my asks a few weeks ago)
So this is a case of mixing two characters together then? I am able to find official (looking?) art of this character who otherwise looks the same except for skin colour though.
Looking up the Laura quote I notice that there are new Tropical Rouge trivia items from a new magazine (thanks to whoever updates these things)!
(there’s more on the characters’ wiki pages if you’re interested)
I love how sassy and ojou sama-attitute Laura is. Makes me hopeful one day we might get a proper ohohohohoho laugh ojou cure
I’m waiting for that day too…
But it really is nice that we got a confident smug Laura instead of the “gentle girl to tone down Manatsu’s outlandishness” they were planning (according to wikia). She’s much more memorable this way!
Do you have any favourite Dark Magical Girls?
After rewatching Princess Tutu, I can easily say Princess Kraehe! Memorable design (and lovely fluffy hair! plus the feather thing is great) and an interesting story with all the different role changes. She goes from girlboss to heroine to… damsel I guess, but she really deserves to be rescued at that point!
What are you doing now since you’ve moved from the dress prompt?
At least I have a pretty big backlog of characters I want to draw for the chibi project, and there’s always some spontaneous ideas that come from nowhere.
Delicious Party Precure website is open. Background pic has pink, yellow, blue and green confettis, hmm... Would be nice if true. And then a obligatory purple/red/white/rainbow mid season Cure ofc.
I’m not too keen on judging by the website background colour, but I would certainly like a season with a main character colour palette like in the bottom picture!
If you want to give input on what the Miss Cure Beauty Pageant should look like, or just like filling forms, here’s your chance!
Note that this is more about gauging interest and getting ideas rather than a democratic vote (so my faves will take part even if you don’t vote them in). In any case it’ll take a while for this to begin since I’ll have to draw all the required outfits (in the usual chibi style).
Just why are the mermaid tails in modern mmppp drawn like that? It’s already weird enough that above the knees it looks just like legs in a very tight dress, but then there’s not enough room for both legs (and feet) below the knees so the result is kind of uncanny. It’s as if they’re wearing a fake mermaid tail but their legs have been cut off at the knees.
Winx Club Cosmix redesign (6/6) - Musa
This one turned out super colorful. Is it too much? I had a somewhat different color scheme in mind when I designed this, but it didn’t fit in very well with the other girls’ outfits. I still love this very much. The pose doesn’t show the outfit off very well, still I hope you like it!
Alright, the tournament is now finally over (or the comment posts have been scheduled)! I did say that there would be an “elongated closing ceremony”, but I didn’t quite expect it to take over three months to finish everything but here we are. The reason for the delay is that when the tournament finished I really wanted to draw botw which took all attention, and after that it was difficult to get back on track. But I’m glad everything is now wrapped up because this was really blocking a lot of other content here on mahou-furbies, since I tried to avoid getting sidetracked by even more projects (and ended up finishing very little over the autumn).
The open comments are always my favourites and it’s great you left so many of them. And it’s nice that many of you told you had fun with the event, comments like that really make it fun to host these too.
Some general comments
One really good comment was about the length of the tournament, i.e. that it got tedious to check back every day for a month and it could potentially cause burnout. With which I agree, and it was some trouble even for me to be present to close the poll, open the next one and post the results daily for so long. I think the issue is that there’s just so many Megucas… I could have eliminated more in the first round, but there were some comments against the 3-way matches. And I don’t like the idea of one voting batch having too many matches at once because I feel that it would take attention away from the individual matches and would just cause people to skim over the list if it’s too long. But maybe that’s just me. Comments on this are welcome! Right now the simplest solution probably is just not to have so many participants in the first place.
I’d like to have more tournaments in the future too, though there aren’t that many franchises with enough characters. Magical Girl Raising Project maybe, but I don’t think it’s popular enough to warrant a full tournament on its own. And a multi-series tournament sounds like it’d be really skewed in favour of the popular series, like who do you think is going to win, Sailor Moon or some rando from a show nobody saw? Ideas on this are welcome too.
There will be another Precure tournament though, this time on just who your favourite character is (instead of being asked to vote for the best outfit). But I’ll wait until the 2022 Cures can be included too. And another idea I had is like a miss Cure beauty pageant thing, where there’s some pre-selected characters and each round you’d vote who of them has the best winter look, or pyjamas, and so on, and then in the end the points are tallied to pick the winner. How’s that sound?
Holy Alina (favourite alternate outfit):
The comments from the last summer’s Meguca tournament really were my favourite thing about it, and now I’ve finally managed to compile them. Thanks to everyone who left any! I’ve formatted the comments a bit (like split it apart if it’s about multiple characters) but I hope the spirit is still accurately represented. And there were a couple dozen different sheets of these so it’s possible some were lost in the process. I’m banking on nobody remembering what they wrote since I took months to do this…
And finally, some celebratory drawings for the Meguca Tournament winner Sana! It’s redesigns based on different aspects of her outfit.
