This is a digital painting I did for a local animal charity, for a fundraiser. Dea the red-tail hawk. Unfortunately, she passed away during the time I was painting her portrait, from age-related heart issues.
This is a digital painting I did for Valentine’s Day this year. Done in Photoshop.

Wow, really inspiring story about Dolph Lundgren and overcoming his personal demons.
I don’t usually post too much about my (although it might seem like it haha) long battle with depression, and today’s post isn’t about me, exactly. I saw a post from a friend about it, and it got me reflecting, and I realized something pretty stunning. What perhaps is the worst part about true depression:
Set aside the “dark cloud” hanging over you, or the lack of hope in ever being happy again, the fatigue, horrible thoughts, crappy body sensations, etc. Put ALL that aside. Imagine if an entity appeared before you and said “Think of the two or three things in your life that make you happy, that give you purpose, motivation, excitement. Now, chose one or two of those things that you must sacrifice. Maybe all of them, at some point.”
That is what depression can do. It can take away the things that make you YOU. Suddenly, unapologetically, and perhaps permanently. Nothing is sacred, nothing is safe. You can’t “refuse to let it get to you” or “ignore it” or “push through it.” The desire for things you once loved might be gone so completely, it’s as if it never existed for you. At your worst you may find that you are an empty shell, alive but not really living. Getting up every morning and putting one foot in front of the other, because you simply have no other choice.
That, perhaps, is the most horrifying thing about it. That you find yourself asking “Who will I be tomorrow…??”
This is a drum backing track for Metallica’s version of “Turn The Page.” I’ll have to bass part put up very soon, also.
I hope everyone has a happy, healthy year. Let’s do this.
