just boys bein boys
When they talk about boys being boys, this is the kind of dumb ass, 4-guys-sharing-1-brain-cell nonsense they should be referring to.
“Okay that’s cool but how do they plan to deal with stopping…?”
“Ah. I see. They didn’t.”
A vivid fresco depicting an armour-clad gladiator standing victorious as his wounded opponent stumbles gushing blood has been discovered in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, Italy’s culture ministry said Friday.
The striking scene in gold, blue and red was uncovered in what experts think was a tavern frequented by gladiators, who fought each other, prisoners and wild animals for the public’s entertainment.
“We do not know how this fight ended. Gladiators were killed or shown mercy,” Pompeii’s director Massimo Osanna said.

Just because you did something wrong in the past doesn’t mean you can’t advocate against it now. It doesn’t make you a hypocrite. You just grew. Don’t let people use your past to invalidate your current mindset.
Hypocrisy is when you do something after you’ve condemned it.
Growth is when you condemn something because you’ve learned from your mistakes.
who do you belive more-
a-someone who has never done (the thing) and tells you its bad, mmkay
b-someone who has done (the thing) and tells you its bad, so bad, it was absolutely dumb and i regret doing it, ive lost out on so much because of doing it
This remarkable line of questioning from Congresswoman Suzan DelBene demonstrates just a few of the ways that the GOP tax plan treats corporations better than people.
Under the Republican plan, corporations are still allowed to deduct state and local taxes. Workers are not. Corporations are still allowed to deduct business expenses. Teachers are not.
Corporations are still allowed to deduct more than $10,000 in property taxes. Homeowners are not. Corporations are still allowed to deduct moving expenses. Families are not.
And this is on top of a $1.5 trillion corporate tax cut.
Let’s be clear, this is not a “middle-class tax cut.” Working families get the crumbs and the super-wealthy get everything else.
citizens are now second class citizens, because the personhood of a corporation comes first
Unpopular opinion, but sometimes it feels like ND positive posts can make the assumption that our actions don’t impact other people.
Like “it’s ok if you can’t meet a deadline!” If I don’t keep up with my grading and lesson planning, that negatively impacts my 128 students.
“It’s ok if you can’t reply to texts! Or hang out with your friends!” Other people (even NT people) have feelings.
Honestly, I think the message should be more “you’re not a bad person for these things” and less “it doesn’t matter.”
If you can’t keep up with deadlines, you’re not a bad person. But you do have to consider what career you go into so you aren’t screwing over other people in the process.
You aren’t a bad person if you can’t keep up with friendships, but your friends shouldn’t be expected to just wait around until you can.
I think this is the biggest disconnect between me and the “ADHD is a gift!” movement. I laugh it off when my ADHD impacts me. Like, when I forget to bring my lunch to work or walk into my bedroom multiple times forgetting what I needed many times in a row.
But it crushes me when my ADHD hurts my students or coworkers.
Maybe I’m missing something here, and I hope I am, but I think we desperately need to re-evaluate the way we talk about neurodivergence.
Mental health conditions and disorders like ADHD can make us too inwardly focused.. or if I’m being harsher, self centered.
It’s true unfortunately and we absolutely can’t help it.. we spend so much mental energy trying to find an internal balance, we start forgetting our externals. We kinda get stuck in our own heads.
If we do or say things that hurts someone else, but we didn’t do it intentionally, the other party has still been hurt. We can hurt the people closest to us without even realizing it.
I have personal experience with this. It was only after I realized how much I had hurt my recent ex, that I started making a change.
I was trying so hard to not feel bored and to keep the emptiness away that I would essentially ignore her.. she told me she would often cry besides me in bed and I had never noticed.
It’s not the guilt that drives me.. ok, it is a little. But mostly, its the desire to not hurt people close to me in the future.
We have hold ourselves accountable even if we had didn’t mean to do it or had genuinely difficulty with it.
I think we so often get messages that we’re bad people when our behavior negatively affects others that when we try to see ourselves more positively, we go too far in the opposite direction.
Right now, I’m struggling to keep up with work in my grad school program, be present for my fiance who is having a hard time, teach my client effectively, and protect their privacy. If I don’t come prepared to sessions, or can’t process in real time and respond well to my client, they lose opportunities to learn. If I mess up with the paperwork the wrong way, it could violate HIPAA regulations protecting my client’s privacy, or it could delay their insurance company processing their claim. My clinical supervisor and alert front desk staff at the school clinic can fill in to some degree, but that only places a burden on them (and they’re already busy).
I’m trying not to go into a spiral of “I’m a bad person,” because I care and am doing my best. But right now, I’m not a great clinician. I need to build up my executive function and motor and real time processing skills more before I can actually help clients. And if I can’t get them high enough, I need to do something else with my life where my strengths still matter, but my weaknesses don’t hurt people as much.
“We so often get messages that we’re bad people when our behavior negatively affects others that when we try to see ourselves more positively, we go too far in the opposite direction.”
It’s almost as if collective efforts to boycott establishments actually work when people aren’t all headass with their “there is no ethical consumption under late capitalism/this isn’t the only unethical company ” excuse that they make to thwart calls for boycott, criticism or collective public action lmao
I’m a lesbian and somehow I manage to walk down the street and not ogle women I find attractive, or cat call or degrade them, or touch them without permission, or interrupt their daily lives, it’s almost as if I’m treating them like human beings despite my attraction to them. What an insane concept.
We were arguing about dress code in a meeting at work. And while my department knows I’m queer the other departments did not. As people (men) were saying that women showing skin and wearing tight clothes was distracting. I spoke up finally and said.
“I’m attracted to women.”
Everyone turned and looked at me and I was like “uhhh” so I finished.
“I’m attracted to women and I can still do my job. Regardless of what someone in my class is wearing. I can still teach. So why can’t you?”
The men all stayed silent.
I feel God and Sappho in this Chili’s tonight.
That rabbit/hare post is messing me up. I’d thought they were synonyms. Their development and social behavior are all different. They can’t even interbreed. They don’t have the same number of chromosomes. Dogs, wolves, jackals, and coyotes can mate with each other and have fertile offspring but rabbits and hares cant even make infertile ones bc they just die in the womb. Wack.
are more genetically compatible than These
and that’s why morphology-based phylogeny has Issues
The problem is perspective. People always think dogs are the ‘standard’ animal, the metric to use for whether or not two organisms “look like” they’re related. When in fact they’re a massive outlier due to the fact that we fucked up this lineage of wolf beyond recognition with selective breeding. It’s why people always say “breed” when they mean “species”, especially when talking about groups like lizards which can’t even be defined cladistically since some of them are closer to snakes than each other. To say nothing of fish.
I once read an article that emphasized there is no such thing as a fish. Sharks and rays, lamprey, lobe-finned fish like lungfish and coelacanth, bichir and sturgeon, and of course the multiple infraclasses of more “modern” fish groups are all only very distantly related to one another. They’ve maintained semi-similar body structures only because there are limited ways to efficiently move through water as a vertebrate.
Are more distantly related from one another than you and I are from a lungfish
Which is absolutely fuckin wild.
Not only that, but all of us air-breathing land vertebrates, all the lizards and chickens and people and frogs, are closer to one another than those three “fish” are to one another as well.
are genetically closer than these
are genetically closer than these
and my personal favorite, it really fucks with people…
are more genetically similar than these
just the other day, one of my friends mentioned this book, “Dinosaurs: A Concise Natural History,” which apparently has a (tongue in cheek) chapter that argues that Cows are actually Fish.

I literally just got dehydrated from all the salt in that one paragraph
I want to know who the 3 presidents are that are ranked lower than Trump
1. Nixon (asshole)
2. Reagan (super asshole)
3. Zachary Taylor (died after one and a half years of presidency like a bitch)
Trump is ranked lower than William Henry Harrison, who died after just 31 days in office. He ranked lower than a man whose presidential legacy is that his inauguration speech was so damn long he gave himself pneumonia because of it and…died.
I mean, damn.
Flies aren’t exactly endearing to humans. We rightly associate them with less-than-appetizing experiences in our daily lives. But there is an unexpected path to redemption: Robots. It turns out that flies have some features and abilities that can inform a new design for robotic systems.
How to have a conversation about a topic you’re not interested in or don’t know anything about:
- Listen to what the other person has to say about the topic.
- Ask a question about what they said. Asking them to clarify or explain something you don’t understand is great, but any question will do. All else fails, ask them to explain what they like about some part of the topic.
- Listen to their responses and go back to step 2.
- Do this until 5-15 minutes has passed, then change the subject to a topic of your interest, unless you are actually interested in learning more on this subject, in which case, go on for as long as you like.
- Sometimes, they will say something like “I’m sorry to blather on about [topic].” This is an attempt at a conversational dismount. You can either say “no, it was fascinating, thanks” and then bring up your own topic, or you can say “no, it’s fascinating, please keep going” if you want to keep hearing about their topic. Note the tense difference (past -> moving on, present -> keep going).
I just thought I’d write a script for this, because someone who can’t / won’t do this came up in a Captain Awkward column, and listening about topics you have no interest in is a really useful skill to have and not often explicitly taught, particularly to boys and men.
This is something I picked up while working retail. Keeping good customer relations and especially with coworkers I don’t have much in common with.
Want to talk to me about the latest show you’re watching? Cool. What happened in the latest episode? What’s that character like? So how did they tie in with X?
This is a very useful skill to know.
31 Days of Halloween
“The interesting thing about skeptics, atheists, is that we’re always looking for proof, certainty. The question is, “what on earth would we do if we found it?” There are times when I experience a total loss of faith. Days, months, when I don’t know what I believe in: God, or the devil, Santa Claus, or Tinker Bell. But, I’m just a man. I’m a weak man. I have no power. Yet, there’s something that keeps digging and scraping away, inside me. Feel’s like God’s fingernail.“
