Question: Question for you, since you've been on the Mando path for a bit here recently, I wanted to pick your brains on something I heard awhile back but couldn't source. Basically it boiled down to Lucas (and I already want to take what he said with a metric shit ton of salt) said that the Fett's weren't Mandalorian. Further referenced by the stonking big dent in Boba's helmet. But beskar got looted and replacement armor is made from inferior materials. What are your thoughts on this (I think) balogne?
The Fett’s WERE Mando’ade.
Keep in mind this is from the EU.
Anyway, Jango was born on Concord Dawn, a planet closely tied to Mandalore herself and part of Mandalorian space for thousands of years, and raised Mando’ade. The Fett clan owns and manages extensive farm lands, and was much bigger than their two most infamous sons. His father was a Mando’ade Journeyman Protector.
Jango himself rose to the position of Mand’alor, but Death Watch fucking hated him because he was like “You know what I’ve got some common goddamn sense and no we are not working with these Sith motherfuckers”. They betrayed and framed him and called the Jedi down on his head for crimes he didn’t actually do. The Jedi killed his friends and soldiers.
And then, in an act that’s legendary among Mandalorians, Jango Fett killed no fewer than six Jedi with his bare fucking goddamn hands, through nothing but skill and sheer pissed off bitter will, because those Jedi had killed his men. But there were a lot more than six Jedi there, and they subdued him at last and delivered to the Republic sector governor, who sold him into slavery on a spice transport. The new more pacifistic governance of Mandalore declared him dar’manda, and exiled him.
Now, it’s hard to keep a Mando down, so he obviously escaped and got his armor back and strangled the governer for information a little, and took to making his living as a bounty hunter.
That brings us to him eventually getting hired to make about twenty million sons via cloning, plus one extra special son to raise as his own. He raised Boba as Mando’ade, and when Jango was killed Boba took his armor, which was traditional in Mandalorian families. Some sets of armor were passed down for centuries, altered and refitted slightly for each new wearer.
Jango’s status as dar’manda was eventually lifted, and Boba eventually made his way back to Concord Dawn and Mandalore, and even eventually served as Mand’alor himself, by the request of Fenn Shysa, the previous Mand’alor, after Shysa’s death.
So yes. The Fetts are Mando’ade.
