after i read this i just stared at me screen muttering no-
itâs so unbelievable because when i think of Van Gogh and Starry Night i think of really old times like the Renaissance or somethingâŠ.idk but something much older than when the nintendo was fucking created thatâs for sure-
it just seems fake so iâm just going to pretend this isnt real :)))
Are we not going to talk about how Nintendo was founded in 1889???
no shhh weâre ignoring all this because i have decided it isnt real and whatever i say is the law
I reblogged this 0.2 sec ago but I love her clapbacks so much
Yeah should be doing this more.
I just love how she says âHe does not look to be of Native American descent,â lmao.
I never understood âgo back to Africaâ, like. Y'all brought them here. You gonna pay to send them back? Back where? Did you keep your records? Everyone from everywhere lives here now, deal with it already.
I wanna say Thats violation but that means he was gone send her that unwanted shit too đđđ
black mirror season 4
Savage
Oh wow
This is super epic.Â
He was obnoxious to begin with, it is true, but if he moves forward in this wooing as a respectful dude, he will text her something nice like it was fun to meet her or maybe ask her on a date. Mom will text him back and there will be a bit of confusion before he realizes what happened. Heâll be a bit chagrined and mom will probably feel bad enough for him being rejected to make him cookies or something.
HOWEVER
If he starts in with that fuckboy shit (asking for sex right out the gate, dick picks, asking for nudes, etc.), he will learn the ultimate lesson.Â
Hereâs a hug for everyone who started questioning and/or found a good label during lockdown.Â
It was a dramatic life change for many - online school, working from home, not seeing your friends or family, leaving your home much much less often or not at all anymore⊠It may feel weird to go from âThe world feels upside downâ to âI finally understand my own feelingsâ. But it makes perfect sense:Â
Many people suddenly found a lot more quiet alone time in their life. We tend to push away big questions like âWho am Iâ while we are busy and around other people. During lonely times, itâs harder to ignore those questions. It can be scary when you suddenly have no appointments outside of home to distract you from that, and it can be beautiful. Most likely, it was both at once. Â
You didnât choose a weird time at all. There is no wrong time to learn more about yourself.Â
Still canât get over that 4chan post thatâs like âmy mom came into my room and I pretended to be asleep and she stroked my cheek??? Is she gonna kill me???â And someone replied, âshe loves you, dumbassâ
What I like about this post is OP translates 4chan greentext into tumblr punctuation
I donât know who needs to hear this, but going to thrift stores and buying all the usable sheets and t-shirts and jeans and then cutting them up to make rag rugs or yarn or whatever for your shabby chic/cottagecore aesthetic isnât solar punk.
Itâs gentrification.
You are taking resources away from people who need them so that you can pretend to live a less consumptive lifestyle. You are cosplaying sustainability.
The whole fucking point of rag rugs etc. was that you made use of textiles you already had that could no longer be used for their intended purpose, and you extended the lifecycle of the item by turning it into something else useful instead of throwing it in the garbage. When you buy clothing that still has use *as clothing* just to cut it into rags to make a rug, youâre *speeding up* the consumption of materials. Youâre shortening the lifecycle. You are consuming MORE.
And youâre doing it by buying up resources that marginalized people need. Those thrift store sheets would look so much better on somebodyâs fucking bed, but since you wanted that Little House on the Prairie vibe, someone is sleeping on a bare mattress now whilst trying to save their pennies to go to fucking Wal-Mart for bedsheets. And that denim throw pillow probably looks adorable on your sofa, but somebody needed a pair of sturdy jeans for that job theyâre trying to get, and now thereâs nothing available.
But sure, your house looks cute. I guess thatâs important.
Cool. Anyway Iâve actually worked at a thrift shop and donât listen to this person.
We use the money we make from selling items to help pay peopleâs rent, bills and grocery tabs.
We get so many donations that we canât store them all, so if we donât move stock fast, stuff gets sent to a recycling plant. It doesnât get stored in an endless warehouse until itâs bought by someone who âneedsâ it. It gets chopped up anyway. The only difference is, we donât get paid for it when it gets recycled, and thatâs two bucks less that we have to go towards helping people.
Avoiding buying stuff from a thrift shop so poorer people can have it just means we have less of an ability to help those people with looming bills and empty cupboards. I promise you the thrift shop isnât going to run out of sheets and shirts ffs.
Hey, so Iâve also worked at thrift shops, and not all of them are paying peopleâs rent.
This isnât âdonât buy things from thrift shops because the poors will be sadâ, this is âstop buying up all the perfect condition sheets and jeans and shit just to cut it up for your Pinterest crafts because some people actually need that stuff in its intact and usable formâ.
A lot of (for-profit) thrift stores in my area have priced themselves out of reach of the people who need them, because they now have a consumer base of âupcyclersâ, and the charity shops with fixed low prices are largely empty of things like sheets and jeans. Iâve taken foster kids shopping for thrift store clothes and have often come away with nothing because the few decent things in larger sizes (i.e. pieces with larger amounts of fabric to be cut up) were priced higher than I could buy for new. Iâm talking about being unable to find one pair of jeans and a short sleeve button front shirt for less than fifty bucks. At a thrift store.
Thrift stores *do* run out of useable sheets. Thrift stores donât run out of *shirts*, probably , but they do run out of decent shirts in larger sizes suitable for job interviews. If you need a shirt, go ahead and buy a shirt. But donât take all the decent shirts off the rack and cut them up to make a scrap quilt or whatever because you like the sustainability aesthetic.
Something I should have mentioned in my original post - the local Goodwill here has recently started selling pulled stock by the pound, which is a good way to get raw materials for crafting.
Temperatures are increasing due to human activities, specifically emissions of greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide and methane.Â
Heat and the energy it carries are what drive our planet: winds, weather, droughts, floods, and more are expressions of heat. The right amount of heat is even one of the things that makes life on Earth possible. But too much heat is changing the way our planetâs systems act.
My Worldâs on Fire
Higher temperatures drive longer, more intense fire seasons. As rain and snowfall patterns change, some regions are getting drier and more vulnerable to damage, setting the stage for more fires.
2020 saw several record-breaking fires, both in Australia in the beginning of the year, and in the western U.S. through northern summer and fall. Smoke from fires in both regions reached so high into the atmosphere that it formed clouds and continues to travel around the globe today.
In the Siberian Arctic, unusually high temperatures helped drive at least 19 fires in the region. More than half of them were burning peat soil â decomposed organic materials â that stores a lot of carbon. Peat fires release vast amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, potentially leading to even more warming.
The Waterâs Getting Warm
It wasnât just fire seasons setting records. 2020 had more named tropical storms in the Atlantic and more storms making landfall in the U.S. than any hurricane season on record.
Hurricanes rely on warm ocean water as fuel, and this year, the Atlantic provided. 30 named storms werenât the only things that made this yearâs hurricane season notable.
Storms like Eta, Delta, and Iota quickly changed from smaller, weaker tropical storms into more destructive hurricanes. This rapid intensification is complicated, but itâs likely that warmer, more humid weather â a result of climate change â helps drive it.
The Ice Is Getting Thin
Add enough heat, and even the biggest chunk of ice will melt. Thatâs true whether weâre talking about the ice cubes in your glass or the vast sheets of ice at our planetâs poles. Right now, the Arctic region is warming about three times faster than the rest of our planet, which has some major effects both locally and globally.
This year, Arctic sea ice hit a near-record low. Sea ice is actually made of frozen ocean water, and it grows and thaws with the seasons, typically reaching an annual minimum extent in September.
Warmer ocean water led to more ice melting this year, and 2020âs annual minimum extent continued a long trend of shrinking Arctic sea ice extent.
A Long Trend
We study Earth and how itâs changing from the ground, the sky, and space. Using data from sensors all around the planet, we calculate the global average temperature, working with our partners at NOAA.
Many other organizations also track global temperature using their own instruments and methods, and they all match remarkably well. The last seven years were the hottest seven years on record. Earth is getting warmer.
We also study the effects of increasing temperatures, like the melting sea ice and longer fire seasons mentioned above. Additionally, we can study the cause of climate change from space, with a birdâs eye view of increasing carbon in the atmosphere.
The planet is changing because of human activities. Weâre working together with other agencies to monitor changes and understand what this means for people in the future.
psa on how to respond when someone asks you to start using a different name or pronouns for them:
âiâm probably gonna mess those up lol please correct meâ âđđ dismissive, makes it sound like you donât respect their identity, puts the responsibility of fixing your mistakes on them instead of you
âthank you for letting me know, iâll do my best to learn thoseâ â đđ respectful, acknowledges that it takes a lot of courage and trust to come out, shows that you care enough to learn to gender them correctly
(and then when youâre done actually follow through and put in the work to learn their name/pronouns, thank you have a great day)
haaaaate seeing rich ppl mansions that are so modern and minimal and severe like an art museum or smthâŠlike hello ur in the perfect situation to build the coziest most ethereal home full of unique treasures and ultimate comfort. instead u buy beds and couches that look like theyâre from roblox. anywaysÂ
Iâm all for academic integrity and accurate citing until I change the access date in the footnote to make my professors think I didnât procrastinate
bruh my little brother got a scratch and he was all crying and i was like âoh do you want one of the bandaids i use for my shots? they have cute emojis on themâ and through his tears he goes âthatâs cringeâ IM DEAD
âAsk the little brat if heâd rather have rubbing alcohol poured on it and sealed up with superglue instead.â
hey you fucking weirdo thatâs my real life little brother .
i spent hours looking for this post because it hit me over the head repeatedly at 12:00 in the morning
the story is so insane and heartbreaking. the working class female employees were kept completely in the dark about the potential dangers of radium and their workplaces were extremely hazardous. the radium paint got all over their workrooms, bodies, and clothes. the women noticed that the radium made them twinkle in the dark and look beautiful, so they would spread it all over their dresses before going out to party. also, from what i remember, they would go so far as to brush it into their teeth to make their smile look more dazzling.Â
basically, it was marketed to the young women as glow in the dark glitter when really they were really ingesting hundreds if not thousands of micro-doses of radioactive materials. daily. for years.
the workers were almost all young women just beginning adulthood and carving out a life for themselves, and the radiation sickness they contracted due to the companyâs negligence caused them to die extremely slow, extremely painful, and tragically early deaths en masse.
workers were denied medical coverage from the company. later, multiple workers later sued the company and made labor rights history by establishing the right of individual workers to sue for damages from corporations due to labor abuse.Â
Saying they had syphilis was a deliberate tactic to ruin the girlsâ reputations by implying that they were sleeping around (since syphilis is sexually transmitted), therefore making people less likely to listen to them.
The male management wouldnât go near the radium without protective clothing, but doctors were paid to go into the factories and tell the girls that it was good for them. (The same companies also sold food and drink laced with radium on the same principle, citing studies that they had paid for.)
To prove that the radium companies were responsible for the deaths, they exhumed some of the dead girls to test their corpses for signs of radiation poisoning. Their coffins glowed in the dark.
tumblr will never die because weâre all too incoherent and petty to leave. someone will just pirate the source code and start running âtunglrâ and weâll all move over like the chucklefucks we are
every time web developers try to ârebrandâ or ârepurposeâ this website we just sink our heels deeper into the quicksand of our own absurdity
look what im saying is there was a story abt a group of artists whose house was demolished in order to make room for a new shopping mall and, once it was constructed, they fueled their rage and pettiness at being displaced into finding an unused room in the building, renovated it into a condo, outfitted it with a fully stocked kitchen, china hutch, AC, TV and gaming system and then proceeded to live in the mall undetected for years. that creativity? absurdity? sheer stubborn pettiness? thas tumblr babey!!!!
Iâve been watching Good Omens for âll of about ten minutes and I have to say, I do like the poetry between hellâs most angelic demon and heavenâs most demonic angel coexisting
Through watching the rest of the show I went from âworst demon and worst angel- a demon that is too kind and an angel that is too hedonisticâ, to âbest demon and best angel- a demon so rebellious he canât even cooperate with the rebellion and an angel so angelic he was ordered to love humanity and now refuses to stopâ, and having finished, now, Iâve found myself resting on âtwo beings who are in fact very very human and love each other very muchâ
I’m loving this new trend of people going to zoos and participating in animal enrichment. We use to observe large exotic animals for our entertainment, but the fact is that we are now trying to make ourselves equally as entertaining for them. It’s interactive, completely parpicipatory and I would argue that eventually someone’s gonna come up with something new enough that it expand ethologists understanding about how some animals think, problem solve, communicate and feel and I think its fantastic.
Honestly fuck all of that “what they did was terrible” shit, The majority of those people from yesterday were not wearing masks. I want to know who they are, where they live, work, etc.
There are hundreds of videos of these people’s faces. Lets start identifying who these terrorists are. I don’t believe they should be allowed to go back into the Shadows like yesterday never happened.
whoopsie, accidentally rb'ing this for everyone to see teehee
