Minseok didn’t understand what was happening. Everything hurt and there was shouting all around him. He tried to open his eyes, but they just felt so heavy. He could hear people calling out his name and saying other things, but he couldn’t make any of it out. His head felt funny and he could feel something slipping away, but he didn’t know what it was. The confusion and exhaustion overwhelmed him and suddenly he felt nothing.
Minseok woke again, the pain dulled some but it was still there. He looked around and all he saw was white. White walls, white curtains, white blankets. Even the gown he was wearing was white. He had no idea why he was here or why his best friend Jongdae was sleeping in a chair next to him. He sat up slightly and winced, regretting that decision. He looked at himself and found he was covered in bandages. And he had no idea why. Jongdae stirred and looked over, getting up quickly.
“You’re awake!” Jongdae exclaimed. Minseok winced and smiled slightly. Jongdae covered his mouth quickly and apologized almost inaudibly.
“What am I doing here? What happened?” Minseok asked curiously. Jongdae pulled his hand away from his mouth and frowned.
“You mean you don’t remember?” Jongdae asked. Minseok just blinked and Jongdae was about to say something more, but a nurse came in.
“I heard from a very loud someone,” she began, glaring at Jongdae slightly, “that you have finally woken up. We’re very glad to see you pull through. You had quite a list of injuries.”
“What happened?” Minseok asked again.
“You broke a few ribs, had a concussion, cracked your left tibia, and dislocated your left shoulder,” the nurse explained. Minseok looked confused. He didn’t remember doing any of that. “The internal bleeding you suffered was the biggest worry, but you seem to be healing pretty well.”
“How did all this happen?” Minseok asked.
“You were hit by a car. You really don’t remember?” Jongdae replied. Minseok shook his head slightly and Jongdae just shrugged. “Well, I guess it doesn’t matter. It was more of a hit and run since the car and driver were gone by the time anyone got there." Minseok blinked and tried to remember what happened, but a stab of pain stopped his thoughts cold.
"Don’t try too hard to remember. If you’re meant to the memories will come back with time,” the nurse explained. “For now you should try eating something. You’ve been sleeping for three days." Minseok’s eyes widened. Three days. He looked at Jongdae and Jongdae just smiled sympathetically. The nurse walked over and showed Minseok how to operate the bed, sitting it up for him. She brought over a tray of food and placed it in front of him. Minseok looked over at the curtain in the middle of the room curiously.
"Is there someone on the other side?” Minseok asked curiously while taking a bite of an unappetizingly dry sandwich.
“Yes, but we’re not sure who he is. He came the day after you and he’s been in a coma ever since,” the nurse explained.
“What happened to him?” Minseok asked, needing to put down the sandwich before it came back up.
“Car accident. Poor boy seemed to have hit a patch of ice and hit a tree. Why so curious?” the nurse inquired.
“Well, we’re roommates. I’m just wanted to know who I was sharing a room with,” Minseok replied, drinking out of the juice box. He grimaced, not a fan of warm apple juice.
“Well I can assure you he won’t be very conversational. The doctor isn’t sure if he’ll ever come too. He suffered a lot of head trauma,” the nurse explained.
“Can I see him at least?” Minseok asked. The nurse gave him a funny look, but moved the curtain. On the other side Minseok saw his roommate. His face was littered with cuts and bruises, his head wrapped in gauze. His wrist was bound in a cast with the IV maneuvered around it. He was asleep, but he didn’t look peaceful. “And you don’t even know his name?”
“Unfortunately no,” the nurse admitted. Minseok looked down at the rest of food and didn’t feel like finishing it. He just didn’t have an apatite. “Are you finished?" Minseok looked up and nodded. "Alright, I’ll be back to check on you later." Minseok smiled slightly as the nurse took the tray and walked out of the room. Minseok glanced again at the boy on the other side of the room and felt a sting of pity for him. I bet he was beautiful without all those wounds…Minseok thought.
"I have to call the others to let them know you’re okay,” Jongdae said. Minseok jumped slightly, almost forgetting Jongdae was even there.
“Oh, alright. Can you do me a favor though? Can you help me into the wheelchair over there and push me over to him?” Minseok requested.
“Sure, but why?” Jongdae asked, wheeling the chair over to the bed side.
“I figured he would recover faster if he knew someone was rooting for his recovery,” Minseok replied as Jongdae helped him into the chair. Jongdae shrugged and wheeled him over to the sleeping figure.
“I’ll be back in a few,” Jongdae said. Minseok nodded and Jongdae left the room. Minseok looked at the boy and gently took his hand. His skin was cold and Minseok frowned slightly.
“Hi. I’m Minseok. I don’t know who you are, but it would be great if you would wake up and tell me,” Minseok said with a small smile. “It looks like cars aren’t very friendly to either of us. But I managed to wake up, so you should be able to as well. Even if the doctors don’t know if you’ll wake up or not, I have faith that you will. It would be too sad for you to stay here without anyone knowing at least your name. I like to think the world isn’t that cruel." He paused for a second and looked at the door before looking back at the boy. "My friend Jongdae should be back soon. You’d probably like him. He’s just one of those likeable people." Minseok placed his hand gently back onto his chest as the door opened and Jongdae walked in.
"Did you have fun with the vegetable?” Jongdae asked with a chuckle. Minseok glared playfully as Jongdae wheeled Minseok back to his bed and helped him in.
“Maybe I was wrong,” Minseok muttered. Jongdae looked confused as he sat in the chair.
“Wrong about what?” Jongdae asked.
“That you were a likeable person,” Minseok replied.
“Hey, I’m totally likeable. I’m nearly bursting with charisma and charm,” Jongdae said pretending to be offended. Minseok laughed, but was cut short with the pain in his chest. Broken ribs. Right. “Anyway everyone is relieved to hear you’re okay. Chanyeol is demanding that you buy him a drink for scaring him like that." Yup, that sounded like Chanyeol. "You should rest up. The others would be pissed at me if I slowed down the healing process." Minseok nodded and returned the bed to it’s normal position. Jongdae walked out of the room and Minseok glanced over at his roommate again. He had the strangest sense that he had seen him before, but he couldn’t place when or where. He shrugged slightly and closed his eyes.
Minseok woke up alone this time and frowned when he noticed the curtain pulled back to it’s original position. He didn’t like the idea of his roommate being cut off from everyone. He reached over and pushed the button on the side of the bed, making it sit him up. The nurse walked in pushing a cart and smiled at him.
"Good morning,” she greeted. Minseok smiled back at her slightly. “Care for some breakfast?”
“Sure,” Minseok replied with only slight sincerity. the nurse brought over a tray with orange juice, eggs, and some sort of meat patty that Minseok was afraid of. She walked back over to the cart and grabbed a clear bag. She disappeared behind the curtain as Minseok tried to choke down the powder eggs. He only managed to finish half of them and didn’t touch the patty. He was afraid of it, though he would never admit it out loud. The nurse returned and smiled sympathetically down at the tray. It was no secret to her that the food was terrible.
“You all finished?” she asked anyway.
“Yeah. Is it possible to leave the curtain open? I want to talk to him some more,” Minseok requested. The nurse looked confused, but opened the curtain once again. The boy was still there, looking exactly as he did yesterday. She took the tray and placed it on the cart before walking out.
There weren’t many sounds going on. Just the quiet words from the outside and the beeping of the monitors in the room. Minseok wondered if the boy could actually hear these things as well.
“Hey, Minseok again. Just letting you know that it’s January 19th. This is the fourth day you’ve been asleep. That doesn’t sound like fun does it? Maybe you’ll be like me and wake up today. I was asleep for three full days too. Well, I thought it would be fun to tell you a little bit about myself. My birthday is March 26th and I’m 22 years old. Jongdae is my best friend, but I have three other really close friends. Their names are Kyungsoo, Chanyeol and Baekhyun. Kyungsoo is the youngest in our group, but he’s way more mature than the rest of us. Chanyeol likes to have fun all the time and Baekhyun is probably the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. We all work together at a small clothing store in the city. Nothing too big, but the owner likes to use us as models." Minseok paused to chuckle at the memories.
"Anyway, we live in the same apartment building, but we’re not all roommates. Kyungsoo, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun share an apartment and Jongdae and I share one. We used to laugh to ourselves and joke that we should just all buy a house together since we spend most of our time together anyway. There was a time we sincerely thought about it, but we didn’t feel like moving. The houses near our work would be too expensive. I don’t really see my parents anymore, but we keep in touch." Minseok stopped, wondering why he was saying all of this. He didn’t really believe that the boy could hear him. He hoped he could, but he didn’t believe he could. The door opened and Minseok looked over, watching all four of his friends walk into the room.
"You scared us all half to death man,” Chanyeol said.
“Hello to you too,” Minseok replied with a chuckle.
“Are you okay?” Kyungsoo asked, his large eyes full of worry.
“As far as I know. Everything’s still attached and i can breathe and eat just fine,” Minseok said. Kyungsoo smiled and Baekhyun walked over with a smile.
“I’m glad you’re okay. The three days you were sleeping killed all of us. Jongdae barely left the hospital,” Baekhyun explained. Chanyeol grinned and wrapped his arm around Jongdae’s shoulders.
“Yeah, he’s such a good little roommate isn’t he?” Chanyeol asked playfully. Jongdae glared at him and ducked out from under his arm.
“I was worried I was going to have to pay the entire rent by myself,” Jongdae said stiffly.
“Uh-huh, sure ya were,” Chanyeol said with a smirk. Everyone laughed and Chanyeol noticed the boy on the other side of the room. “Who’s this guy?”
“I don’t know. He’s in a coma,” Minseok replied.
“Isn’t it a little depressing to have the curtain open?” Chanyeol asked walking over to the boy. He waved his hand in front of his face and Minseok rolled his eyes.
“Leave him be Chanyeol,” Minseok said. Chanyeol looked over at him and walked back over.
“Minseok thinks he can help that guy if he talks to him and such,” Jongdae explained with a shrug.
“Well that’s nice of you,” Baekhyun said. Minseok shrugged and winced a little. He kept forgetting he was hurt. “Did you need anything that we could help you with?”
“Yeah, you could bring me real food. This hospital stuff sucks,” Minseok answered. The others laughed and Chanyeol put his hand on Minseok’s right shoulder.
“I believe that could be arranged. Kyungsoo, go make him something,” Chanyeol said.
“Why always me?” Kyungsoo asked.
“Because you’re the best. And you love cooking. Don’t deny it, you’ve said it yourself plenty of times,” Baekhyun pointed out. Kyungsoo was about to say something, but stopped. He didn’t have a good comeback.
“Fine, I’ll be back with dinner. Get well soon,” Kyungsoo said before leaving. Minseok smiled and waved. Chanyeol gave Minseok’s shoulder a pat and started walking away.
“I’ll go pick up some fast food for lunch. If the food here is as bad as you say it is I don’t want you eating it anymore. It’s probably a ploy to keep you here so the hospital can steal all of your money,” Chanyeol said, looking in thought. Baekhyun just shook his head and started pushing Chanyeol out the door.
“Sorry, my shift starts in twenty minutes. I’ll be back to visit for dinner like the rest of them,” Baekhyun said on the way out.
“Okay, see you then,” Minseok said as he watched them go. “Good to see everyone else is as lively as ever.”
“Yeah, though it’s depressingly quiet in the apartment. When did the doctor say you can leave?” Jongdae asked.
“In a couple of days. They want to make sure everything is healing properly. Did you talk to Owner?” Minseok asked.
“Yeah. She said she’ll find something for you to do when you get released. She told me to tell you not to worry and to rest up,” Jongdae replied. Minseok smiled slightly. The store owner was a middle aged woman that didn’t tell anyone her real name. She just demanded that all of her employees called her Owner.
“I assume you have to work soon too correct?” Minseok asked. Jongdae laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head slightly.
“Yeah. Owner is having me model the new skinny jeans. I probably won’t be able to make it to dinner, but I’ll visit when I can,” Jongdae admitted quietly.
“That’s okay. I appreciate that you come at all,” Minseok said with a smile. Jongdae smiled back and looked at his watch. He let out a heavy sigh and began to head out.
“Get better soon,” he said before he left. Minseok just nodded and looked over at the boy again. He felt another sting of pity for him. Minseok was visited by his friends, but the boy didn’t have anyone visiting him. He sighed and smiled slightly.
“So now you’ve kind of met all my friends. Sorry about Chanyeol, he doesn’t mean to be rude. He’s really a good guy. I hope you get to actually meet him sometime. I didn’t mention it before, but Kyungsoo is amazing in the kitchen. He usually makes dinner for him and his roommates and then ends up inviting Jongdae and I over since he made too much. I feel like Baekhyun and Chanyeol are spoiled by him. When Kyungsoo has to work a late shift they have no idea what to do. It’s always really funny when they barge into our apartment asking for advice on dinner." Minseok chuckled and winced. He put his hand gently over his chest and sighed.
"I don’t remember getting hit by a car, but Jongdae said the person who hit me just left me there. Who does that? I don’t even know if it was an accident or someone did it on purpose. I really don’t know how to feel about it. I know people do crazy things when they’re scared, but to leave a wounded person on the road without staying to make sure he got help? I can’t even imagine a person like that." Minseok looked over and could’ve sworn he saw the boy flinch. He sighed and grabbed the remote, turning on the TV. There wasn’t really anything on, but he found some mind numbing cartoon to watch while he waited for his friends.
Chanyeol came running in and nearly slammed the door behind him, hiding beneath the window. Minseok looked at him confused and Chanyeol put his finger to his lips, telling Minseok to be quiet. Minseok nodded slightly and watched a couple nurses pass by, but none of the entered the room.
"They’re gone,” Minseok said when he was sure the coast was clear. Chanyeol peaked out the window slightly, making sure Minseok was telling the truth, before standing up. “What did you do this time?”
“I may or may not have accidentally insulted a nurse who made a snarky comment about me,” Chanyeol replied innocently. Minseok rolled his eyes. “Hey, she started it. Well, technically I didn’t hear what she actually said, but it was in response to what her friend said. I’m pretty sure her friend was fawning over me, like girls do, and she told her friend that I wasn’t worth it since my height meant other things weren’t up to par. So I pinched her ass to teach her a lesson.”
“Chanyeol! You can’t just do that to people!” Minseok said in shock. Chanyeol grinned and walked over.
“The important thing is that I was able to deliver this,” he said handing Minseok a chocolate shake and a paper bag.
“All is forgiven,” Minseok said before digging into the bag. He pulled out a cheeseburger and started to eat, thanking the heaven above for Chanyeol.
“I got you three since I didn’t know how hungry you were. I guessed extremely,” Chanyeol explained. Minseok nodded and didn’t even notice that he practically inhaled the first burger. He grabbed the second one and ate slower this time, pausing occasionally to drink some of the shake. Chanyeol sat down on the chair backwards, resting his hands on the back of the chair and his chin on his hands. “So have you been talking to Depressy Lessy while we’re gone?”
“Depressy Lessy?” Minseok asked confused. Chanyeol looked over at the boy and then back and Minseok. He followed his gaze and frowned. “Yeah, and I wish you wouldn’t call him that.”
“Well what the hell else am I suppose to call him? No one knows his name,” Chanyeol said. Minseok opened his mouth to say something, but there was nothing to say. Chanyeol was right. Minseok just ate and Chanyeol smiled. “It’s cool though, that you’re trying to help. I don’t think I could just talk to someone I knew couldn’t hear me.”
“No, probably not. Although I couldn’t really see you sitting here for any length of time anyway,” Minseok pointed out. Chanyeol thought about it and ended up just nodding.
“I get bored easily and I don’t like to get bored,” Chanyeol said grinning. Minseok moved onto the third burger.
“So how bad are the pants Jongdae has to model?” Minseok asked with a smirk. Chanyeol smirked back and pulled out his phone, flipping through the pictures before handing Minseok the phone. He took it and winced, but not from physical pain. “Are those even for men?”
“Not at all,” Chanyeol replied.
“That. That’s harsh." Minseok laughed as carefully as he could and handed the phone back to Chanyeol. He took it and placed it back into his pocket. The two of them talked for a while about work and basically whatever came to mind. Chanyeol tried to see of there was anything interesting on the TV, but became slightly disgusted by the limited number of channels. It was a few hours later when Baekhyun and Kyungsoo walked in carrying bags of what Minseok assumed was food.
"I made too much again,” Kyungsoo admitted quietly. Minseok smiled and chuckled slightly.
“It’s to be expected. It’s fine,” Minseok said. Kyungsoo smiled back slightly as he sat on the floor and separated the containers of food while Baekhyun got out all the dishes. Chanyeol helped dish out the food, making sure Minseok’s portion was slightly bigger than everyone else’s. “Thank you guys.”
“Don’t mention it. We’re friends. It’s what we do,” Baekhyun said with a smile. Everyone began eating and Minseok couldn’t even express his appreciation for his friends.
“Kyungsoo, this is amazing,” Minseok said.
“Really? I was trying to experiment a little bit with the spices,” Kyungsoo replied.
“Your experiment was a success,” Baekhyun said. Kyungsoo blushed slightly, but smiled as well.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure you should just marry me,” Chanyeol said. Everyone looked at him shocked. “What? You all have a problem with me wanting to monopolize Kyungsoo’s cooking?”
“Of course I do! I live with you too ya know!” Baekhyun said, pretending to be outraged. Chanyeol wrapped his arm around Kyungsoo’s neck and pulled him against him.
“Too bad, I’ve got dibs,” Chanyeol stated with a grin. Kyungsoo just looked around, not entirely sure what to do in this situation. Everyone laughed and Chanyeol let go of Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo scooted away from Chanyeol slightly and ate in silence.
Hours passed and the nurse had to come to tell the boys that visiting hours were over. She must have been the one Chanyeol pinched since she gave him the scariest death glare Minseok had ever seen. They all packed up and said their goodbyes, promising Minseok that they would visit again soon. Minseok smiled and returned his bed to it’s original position. He looked over at the boy once more before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep.
The next few days were pretty much the same. Minseok would wake up, greet the boy in the coma and talk to him for a while before the visiting hours started. There was always someone around during the visiting hours. Sometimes they would just talk, other times they would play games. Chanyeol brought in his PS3 and hooked it up to the TV and they played until the nurse found out. Chanyeol was not a fan of hospitals or the people that worked in them.
One day all of the others were busy, so Minseok was on his own for the day. He had gotten good at maneuvering himself into the wheelchair, so he wheeled himself over to the boy’s bed. He hadn’t sat next to him in a while, since it was actually kind of a hassle to get in and out of the wheel chair, but since he didn’t have anything better to do, he figured it would be nice. Minseok placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder and started with his normal greeting.
“Hey, Minseok again. Just letting you know that it’s January 25th. This is the tenth day you’ve been asleep. The doctors are afraid that they can’t keep you here for much longer. They still don’t know who you are and they can’t really afford to keep you here. I’d help, but I don’t have all that much money either." Without warning the boy’s eyes flew open and he started breathing heavily. Minseok shouted for the nurse and was about to wheel away, but the boy grabbed his wrist, looking at him frantically.
"Don’t leave,” he said, his voice barely audible and hoarse. Minseok nodded and took his hand in his, squeezing it slightly as two nurses and a doctor ran in.
“I don’t believe it,” one of the nurses said softly. Minseok looked around as the doctor examined the boy, but the boy never looked away from Minseok.
“Son, you’re going to have to go back to your bed,” the doctor said, now looking at Minseok.
“He doesn’t want me to leave,” Minseok replied.
“I know, but you won’t be far. It’ll be okay, I’ll be as quick as possible,” the doctor said, obviously trying to hurry him. Minseok sighed and just nodded.
“I have to go over there okay? I’ll be right back,” Minseok said. The boy shook his head slightly, but Minseok was already letting go. One of the nurses wheeled him to his bed.
“No! Minseok!” the boy cried. Minseok froze and looked back just in time to see the nurse close the curtain. He tried to block out the screams and the shouting. When everything went silent he looked over panicked. The curtain was pulled back and the nurses and doctor walked over.
“We had to give him a light sedative to calm him down. He’s still conscious at the moment. It’s a miracle he came too at all,” the doctor explained. Minseok nodded, anxious to get back to him. “We’ll be monitoring him closing, but I have a feeling so will you. Call us if anything changes." One of the nurses wheeled him back over to the boy’s bed. He was pale, his eyelids fluttering slightly. Minseok could tell he was fighting the sedative and he smiled slightly.
"Are you okay?” Minseok asked quietly, taking the boy’s hand again gently. The boy looked at him and smiled slightly.
“Luhan,” he said. Minseok looked at him confused. “I’ve wanted to tell you for days. My name is Luhan.”
“You could hear me?” Minseok asked shocked. Luhan nodded slowly.
“I could…I wanted to respond…To let you know I was listening…But I couldn’t…Until now,” Luhan explained. Minseok could almost feel tears in his eyes. He could hear him while he was asleep. “I’m so tired…But I don’t want to sleep again.”
“It’s alright Luhan. I’ll be here when you wake up again,” Minseok assured him. Luhan looked at him, bright brown eyes foggy, but pleading. “I promise." Luhan sighed slightly and closed his eyes, falling asleep. Luhan. The boy’s name was Luhan. He was still gripping Minseok’s hand loosely and Minseok didn’t want to leave him, even if he was just moving a few feet away. Without realizing it he fell asleep next to the bed, his head resting on his own arm.
"Minseok, wake up." Minseok opened his eyes to see Luhan sitting up now. He sat up as well, his neck cracking from the awkward position. "Sorry, I didn’t mean for you to sleep like that." Minseok blinked and saw that Luhan now had a tray on his lap and there was a separate tray next to him on the bed. "The nurse brought in lunch. I told her not to wake you. Have you been eating this stuff since you got here?”
“No, my friends have been bringing me food,” Minseok replied with a smile.
“Ah. I should’ve known that. Well, this stuff is terrible. Is this even real food?” Luhan asked. He had more color and his bruises were closer to being healed.
“How much did you actually hear?” Minseok asked.
“Honestly, not a lot. It was weird. It was like I was on a boat in the middle of the ocean, moving with the current. Sometimes the current would pull me closer to you and sometimes it would pull me away,” Luhan explained. Minseok nodded, kind of fascinated.
“How poetic,” Minseok observed. He looked down at the tray and figured it was safer not to even try the food. He couldn’t even tell what it was.
“Maybe I’m a poet or a writer. I don’t actually remember,” Luhan admitted, pushing a mystery vegetable around with his fork.
“You don’t remember what you did for a living?” Minseok asked.
“I don’t remember anything about me. I only know my name, and I think it’s because I was so desperate to tell you,” Luhan said, his voice quiet. “Anyway, the doctors say that I’d be good to go anytime as long as I took things easy. Problem is, I don’t really have anywhere to go…”
“Let me talk to Jongdae. Maybe you can come live with us for a little while. Just until something about you turns up and we can find out where you came from,” Minseok suggested.
“You would do that for me?” Luhan asked, kind of surprised.
“Sure. I don’t see the problem. Plus, between you and me, we could probably use some help around the apartment. Especially since I’m stuck like this for a while,” Minseok answered. Luhan smiled brightly and Minseok felt his heart beat just that much faster. He’d waited a week to see his smile and it was worth it. “I’ll be right back." Minseok wheeled himself over to the bed and used the phone to call Jongdae. The conversation didn’t last long since Jongdae didn’t have a problem with it. Minseok pulled himself back into his bed, his leg starting to both him. Luhan stumbled over slightly and sat on the bed.
"I forgot to thank you earlier,” Luhan said.
“For what?” Minseok asked.
“For believing in me and pulling me back. I thought for sure I was going to drown and never see the light of day again,” Luhan explained. Minseok smiled and reached over, patting the back of his hand slightly.
“You’re welcome Luhan,” Minseok replied. Luhan smiled. They spent the next few hours just talking about nothing. Luhan asked Minseok questions about him, something Minseok couldn’t do back. It made him sad that he couldn’t ask Luhan about himself, but he was enjoying discovering what kind of person Luhan was. He was kind and warmhearted, but had a snarkiness that would make Chanyeol proud. He was funny and had the voice that would make angels jealous. His Korean was slightly accented, but Minseok couldn’t really place the dialect. When it became late Luhan looked at the clock and then at Minseok. It was apparent that Minseok was tired and it was no surprise that Luhan wasn’t.
“I should let you sleep. Jongdae will be here tomorrow to come take you home,” Luhan said. Minseok smiled slightly as Luhan brushed some hair out of Minseok’s face. He needed to get a haircut soon.
“See you in the morning Luhan,” Minseok said. Luhan nodded and walked back to his own bed. Minseok smiled to himself and the universe before closing his eyes and falling asleep.
Minseok woke up early as he usually does to find Luhan gone. He panicked slightly and sat up, looking around. When the door opened Jongdae and Luhan walked in. Luhan was wearing jeans and a simple gray v-neck shirt. He was holding coffee and Jongdae was holding clothes.
“Good morning Minseok,” Luhan greeted with a smile. Minseok smiled back.
“Ready to go home?” Jongdae asked.
“Oh God yes,” Minseok replied. Jongdae chuckled and walked over with the clothes. Minseok was embarrassed, but he had to ask Jongdae help him put them on. His street clothes felt so much better than the hospital gown. He had to be wheeled out in a wheel chair since his arm was still in a sling and would be that way for a couple more days and even then he probably shouldn’t use the crutches right away. Luhan and Jongdae helped him into the back of the car and then got into the two front seats. Jongdae drove and Luhan looked out the window, looking like he was trying to remember something that just wasn’t coming.
“So I talked to Owner and she said that she’d be happy to give Luhan a job for however long he needs,” Jongdae said. Both Luhan and Minseok looked at him in shock.
“How did you manage that?” Minseok asked. Jongdae grinned and for a moment looked like he was debating whether to tell them.
“I showed her a picture of him,” Jongdae replied. Minseok rolled his eyes and Luhan’s eyes grew wider to the point Minseok wasn’t sure if they were going to stay in his head.
“It’s not as bad as he makes it sound,” Minseok assured Luhan. Luhan looked back at Minseok and smiled slightly, but it was a nervous smile. The arrived at the apartment building and the two helped Minseok back into his wheel chair and into the elevator. Minseok felt silly being wheeled around, but there wasn’t much he could do about it. The rode the elevator and Jongdae pushed Minseok into the apartment. It was cleaner that he remembered. There were pillows and blankets on the couch, most likely for Luhan.
“I bought this weird chair thing for the shower for you. I figured it would be a little weird to have us helping you shower,” Jongdae said with a nervous chuckle. Minseok responded with his own nervous laugh. "We can go out shopping for clothes and stuff if you want tomorrow. I took the day off.“ Jongdae was talking to Luhan now and Luhan nodded.
"That would be great. The hospital gave me my wallet back and it had some money in it. It didn’t have my ID in it though, which is kinda weird,” Luhan replied. Jongdae shrugged and Minseok tried to wheel himself to the bathroom. "Need help?“
"I’ll get there eventually,” Minseok replied. His pride wouldn’t let him ask for help. Luhan was about to say something, but Jongdae put his hand on his shoulder and shook his head. Minseok managed to make his way to his room, grab a change of clothes, and then get to the bathroom. Like all tasks it seemed, it was difficult to strip and get into the shower. He felt stupid showering sitting down, but he couldn’t stand and he had to protect his leg cast. There was no one to see, but he was still embarrassed. He turned the water on as hot as he could stand it and just sat under the spray. He let out a heavy sigh and cleaned himself off, washing the hospital off of his skin the best he could, before drying off and getting out. He put on his clothes and wheeled himself out of the bathroom only to be greeted by everyone in the apartment.
“Welcome home!” Chanyeol shouted. Minseok smiled and Baekhyun walked over, wheeling him further into the living room.
“Your new friend is quite charming,” Baekhyun whispered with a smile. Minseok looked over blinking as Baekhyun walked over to Chanyeol. "Could you not drink everything this time?“
"What? I’m drinking my share and his. He can’t have alcohol with his pain meds right?” Chanyeol replied filling his glass again with scotch. Baekhyun rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
“Good thing we live in the same building,” Baekhyun muttered. Everyone laughed and Kyungsoo walked into the kitchen. "He wouldn’t tell us what he was making, and I’m a mix of excited and concerned. He’s been looking up very healthy recipes lately.“
"Healthy is not necessarily a bad thing you know,” Minseok pointed out.
“No, but it’s usually boring,” Chanyeol said.
“Come on guys, this is Kyungsoo we’re talking about. That kid could cook a box and it would still be amazing,” Jongdae said.
“I wish you all wouldn’t call me a kid,” Kyungsoo said, walking back into the living room. Chanyeol grinned and wrapped his arm around Kyungsoo’s neck, leaning on him slightly. Kyungsoo almost fell over, but found his footing quickly.
“Well, you’re still the youngest so you’re still a kid,” Chanyeol said. Kyungsoo waved his hand in front of his face trying to get Chanyeol’s breath out of his breathing area.
“How many of those have you had already?” Baekhyun asked. Chanyeol looked up and finished off the glass.
“Of scotch? I think three,” Chanyeol replied. Kyungsoo grabbed Chanyeol’s arm and moved it off of him, causing Chanyeol to almost fall over.
“You’re drunk already? Jesus Chanyeol,” Baekhyun complained.
“I’m not drunk. At least I’m pretty sure I’m not drunk,” Chanyeol answered before just bursting into laughter.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Jongdae said with a sigh. Minseok laughed and Luhan wasn’t entirely sure what to do, so he just smiled politely.
“Dinner will be ready in a few. Someone come and set the table,” Kyungsoo announced.
“I will take that responsibility,” Jongdae replied walking into the kitchen. Kyungsoo followed him and Chanyeol grabbed the scotch bottle again. Baekhyun took it from him and took a drink straight out of the bottle.
“Hey that’s mine!” Chanyeol whined.
“Well, I’m assuming you drank all of my alcohol in the apartment,” Baekhyun said before taking another drink. Chanyeol pouted and tried to get the bottle back, but Baekhyun kept it away from him.
“Guys, come on, it’s dinner time,” Kyungsoo called out from the kitchen. Chanyeol stopped chasing Baekhyun and walked into the kitchen. Luhan pushed Minseok into the kitchen and Baekhyun hid the bottle before following. Kyungsoo looked at the table of food, fairly proud of himself. And much to Chanyeol’s and Baekhyun’s delight it wasn’t just green things. Everyone sat in chairs around the table and chatted. Chanyeol got a hold of more alcohol so he and Baekhyun apparently began an unofficial drinking contest. Luhan helped Jongdae clean up the table and dishes while Kyungsoo packed away the left overs. Minseok looked around, smiling despite feeling utterly useless.
“Minseok? You still with us?” Minseok looked over, not even realized he’d zoned out. Luhan was looking at him curiously. "I asked if you needed anything.“
"No, not really,” Minseok replied. He looked at the clock and didn’t even realize how late it had gotten. "I think I just want to go to bed.“
"Sounds like a plan, but what about them?” Luhan asked looking at Chanyeol and Baekhyun. Both of them were passed out, heads on the table.
“I say we just leave them there. They’re not hurting anyone,” Jongdae replied. Luhan looked skeptical, but didn’t say anything. He just went and grabbed two blankets, placing them on the two sleeping boys. "You’re too nice Luhan.“
"It’s still winter. You don’t want to listen to them whine about how they’re hungover AND sick do you?” Luhan asked.
“You make a fair point,” Jongdae replied. Minseok laughed and began to wheel himself to his bedroom. Luhan looked over and began helping him without permission. Minseok sighed and let him help. He was tired and didn’t want to fight. Luhan helped him into bed and smiled slightly.
“Goodnight Minseok,” Luhan whispered.
“Goodnight Luhan,” Minseok replied, smiling back slightly. "Tomorrow is my first day back at work and your first day working. Are you excited?“
"Only if you are,” Luhan answered. Minseok chuckled and tried to get comfortable, despite his aching shoulder and cast. Luhan walked out, closing the door on his way. Minseok closed his eyes and drifted off, Luhan the last image he saw in his mind.
Minseok didn’t sleep terribly well since getting comfortable and staying that way seemed to be a challenge. He pulled himself into his chair and wheeled himself out, wincing as he did. The first things he saw were Chanyeol and Baekhyun sitting at the table with cups of coffee, looking like death had claimed them in the night.
“Has the zombie apocalypse began?” Minseok chuckled. Five pairs of eyes looked over at them, two of them not amused.
“No, but rest assured if you ever became a zombie i would be the first to shoot you in the head,” Chanyeol replied. Minseok shrugged and shook his head. He didn’t doubt it. Kyungsoo was being a busy body in the kitchen and Minseok looked confused.
“Did you stay over too Kyungsoo?” Minseok asked curiously.
“No, but I decided since everyone was over here anyway to make breakfast here,” Kyungsoo replied simply. He placed the food in the center of the table and everyone started to help themselves. Luhan helped Minseok with a smile and Minseok just smiled back. Everyone ate and chatted, mostly about what they thought Owner was going to make Minseok do. Towards the end of the meal Luhan got up and came back with a pill bottle. He handed it to Minseok and Minseok took it with a small smile. He opened the bottle and took two of the absurdly large yellow pills.
When breakfast was over the group parted ways to get ready for work. Minseok tried to do everything himself and managed pretty well, but it was exhausting. They all met in the hall, Luhan noticeably nervous. Minseok gave him a reassuring smile. Luhan smiled back and they all squished in the elevator.
“You know we could’ve done this in two trips,” Kyungsoo grumbled, not appreciating being shoved against the wall.
“Yeah, but then it would take that much longer,” Chanyeol replied. Kyungsoo sighed and everyone nearly fell out of the elevator when it reached the bottom floor. The store wasn’t that far from the complex so they all walked, Luhan pushing Minseok. Minseok felt overwhelmingly stupid being pushed around in the wheel chair. When they reached the shop Owner immediately rushed over. She started with looking over Minseok and then looked over Luhan with a smile.
“Yes, you will do very well. Call me Owner,” she said, holding her hand out to Luhan. Luhan took it and shook it slightly.
“Luhan,” Luhan replied with a smile. Owner smiled back and looked at the other boys.
“Chanyeol, Baekhyun, get into your display outfits. Kyungsoo you’re on restocking, and Jongdae you’re not suppose to be here today, what are you doing here?” Owner asked.
“I didn’t want to be stuck at home alone,” Jongdae replied with a shrug. Owner sighed slightly and shook her head.
“Fine, you can help Luhan who is going to be in display case two. Minseok, you’re on register, but call if you need any help,” Owner explained. Everyone nodded and went to their places. Minseok was always very good at register, so he didn’t have too many problems. Doing it one handed served to be a challenge, but it wasn’t too bad. At then end of the day Minseok was exhausted. He was embarrassed at how tired he was, and he tried to hide it. Working register was not that hard. They all headed back, Jongdae pushing Minseok this time. When they reached the elevator the landlord was there.
“I hope you’re not going to try to pull the stunt you did this morning. We have rules you know,” he said with his arms crossed.
“Oh come on, it wasn’t that bad,” Chanyeol said. The landlord just glared at him. The landlord and Chanyeol didn’t really get along.
“Guys it’s fine. I’ll just wait for the next one,” Minseok said.
“And I’ll stay with him,” Luhan added. Chanyeol was still looking at the landlord, but Kyungsoo grabbed his arm and dragged him into the elevator.
“You didn’t have to stay,” Minseok said when he and Luhan were alone.
“Sure I did. It wouldn’t be fair for you to have to wait all by yourself,” Luhan replied. Minseok smiled slightly and Luhan pushed him into the elevator when it came back down. They rode in silence and when they reached the fifth floor the doors opened. The other four were standing in the hall, Chanyeol bitching up a storm about the landlord.
“It’s really not the big of a deal,” Baekhyun said, most likely for the thousandth time. Luhan pushed Minseok into the apartment, the others following. Kyungsoo put on his green apron and went to the kitchen, starting to cook a late dinner. Everyone else sat in the living room talking about work. Luhan actually enjoyed it, but Chanyeol thought it was because Owner went easy on him since it was his first day.
When Kyungsoo finished dinner they all went to the kitchen and ate together. Chanyeol continued to control the conversations, like he usually does. When dinner was over Kyungsoo put away the leftovers, leaving some for Jongdae, Minseok, and Luhan while taking the rest back to their apartment. Chanyeol and Baekhyun followed Kyungsoo out and the remaining three got ready for bed. Luhan and Jongdae tried to help Minseok, but once again he turned down their assistance. Luhan took his place on the couch, the other two in their rooms.
The next few weeks followed a pattern. Minseok was finally able to get out of the sling, but he still used the wheel chair. He wanted to use crutches, but the doctor told him not to strain his shoulder any more than he had to. February passed quickly and one night when everyone was getting ready for bed Luhan heard something fall in Minseok’s room. He rushed in and found Minseok on the floor.
“Minseok! Are you okay?” Luhan asked, walking over. He crouched down and put his hand on Minseok’s shoulder, but Minseok slapped it away. "Minseok…“
"No. Just stop. I can do this myself,” Minseok said. He began to push himself up, but as soon as he moved his leg a certain way pain shot through his body. He yelped slightly and fell back to the floor. For a moment he just sat there before burying his face in his hands, crying.
“Minseok,” Luhan began, but didn’t know what else to say. Minseok looked up at Luhan, tears streaming down his face.
“Why did this have to happen to me?” Minseok asked. "What did I do?“ Luhan just walked over and helped Minseok sit on the bed.
"You didn’t do anything. Sometimes these things just happen,” Luhan said quietly, sitting next to him. He wrapped his arms around Minseok and held him as Minseok cried.
“This isn’t fair,” Minseok said between sobs. Luhan rubbed Minseok’s shoulder, not knowing how to make it better.
“If I could make it go away I would,” Luhan said.
“Could you stay with me?” Minseok asked.
“Of course,” Luhan replied. Both of them laid down, Luhan still holding Minseok.
“Thank you Luhan,” Minseok said. Luhan smiled and kissed Minseok’s forehead. Minseok looked up at him and reached up slightly, pressing his lips to Luhan’s. Luhan was surprised at first, but kissed Minseok back. It was a short, fairly innocent kiss.
“You’re welcome Minseok,” he replied. Minseok smiled slightly and closed his eyes. They both fell asleep in each other’s arms.
Minseok set the doctor appointment on the 26th of March. It was the appointment to get his cast removed, so he figured it would be a birthday gift to himself. The cast came off and his leg appeared to have healed without any major problems. He had to walk with a cane for a while, but that wasn’t a big problem. The important part was that he could walk again. Luhan helped him when he needed it, but mostly just held his hand. Jongdae had driven them to the hospital and was surprisingly cool with their relationship. Luhan had moved to sleeping in Minseok’s room every night and spent all their time together. Kyungsoo and Baekhyun had seen the signs immediately, but everyone were still wondering if Chanyeol knew at all.
They got back to the apartment and it was completely decked out for Minseok’s birthday. Chanyeol threw confetti as soon as Minseok walked through the door with one hand and took a swing of whatever was in the bottle he was holding with the other. Minseok shook his head slightly and sat down on the couch. Luhan sat next to him and smiled, taking Minseok’s hand in his.
“Happy birthday old man,” Chanyeol said with a grin. Minseok frowned and looked over. Chanyeol was laughing at himself and Baekhyun was shaking his head with his hand over his face.
“We tried to hide the alcohol, we really did,” Baekhyun muttered. Minseok just smiled and chuckled.
“It’s fine,” Minseok replied. Baekhyun looked at Minseok and smiled slightly.
“Kyungsoo, if you never leave the kitchen one of these days you’re going to just become a part of it. You’re worse than a house wife,” Chanyeol called out. Kyungsoo walked out of the kitchen pouting.
“Well I’m sorry. Maybe I should just stop feeding you,” Kyungsoo replied. Chanyeol immediately stopped laughing at everyone else started. "That’s what I thought. Dinner will be ready momentarily.“ Everyone got up and walked into the kitchen, sitting at the table. "I made your favorites,” Kyungsoo said as he put the food on the table. Baekhyun had to help Chanyeol to make sure he didn’t make a mess. Chanyeol thought this was hilarious.
The night was a lot of fun. They all managed to convince Kyungsoo to drink, which was a pretty bad idea. It didn’t take very long for him to get completely plastered and pass out on the couch shortly after. They all felt bad, but it didn’t seem that way since they were too busy laughing hysterically. Minseok decided not to drink, but the other four had no problems with it. Luhan didn’t drink as much as the other three, but drank enough to get a good buzz. Minseok retreated to his room, only able to sit around and watch people get drunk for so long. Luhan noticed he left the party and followed him into the room.
“Not having fun?” Luhan asked.
“I am, I guess I’m just tired,” Minseok replied with a smile. Luhan smiled back and sat next to him.
“You know, I didn’t really know what to get you for your birthday,” Luhan admitted quietly.
“It’s alright, just you being here is enough for me,” Minseok answered. Luhan took his hand and leaned over, kissing him softly. He still tasted like vodka. When he pulled away he looked deeply into Minseok’s eyes.
“But it’s not alright with me,” Luhan said. Minseok just stared at him, captivated by his eyes. Luhan kissed him again, this time hungrier. Minseok wrapped his arms around Luhan and pulled him closer. Luhan slid his tongue into Minseok’s mouth and licked the roof of his mouth. Minseok slid his hands to Luhan’s chest, starting to slowly unbutton his shirt. Luhan was not so gentle with Minseok’s shirt. He ripped it, buttons flying in various directions. Luhan traced Minseok’s muscles with his finger and Minseok shivered slightly.
Minseok finished with Luhan’s shirt and pushed it off, brushing his fingers across Luhan’s shoulders. Luhan smiled under Minseok’s mouth and pulled away, sucking slightly on Minseok’s earlobe. Minseok groaned slightly and Luhan nipped at the skin. Minseok started to unbutton Luhan’s jeans and his hands froze in place when Luhan slid his tongue into Minseok’s ear. Luhan played a little bit and Minseok started to push Luhan’s jeans off, sliding the boxers off with them. Luhan pulled away from Minseok’s ear and moved down, dropping light kisses down his neck.
Luhan had no issues with Minseok’s jeans and removed them quickly while still traveling down his body with kisses. He kissed Minseok’s abs and paused slightly to flick his tongue near Minseok’s bellybutton. He continued kissing downward and kissed the top of Minseok’s shaft. Luhan smirked and started to play with it with his tongue, licking from side to side. Minseok groaned and Luhan wrapped his lips around the tip, sucking slightly. Minseok tried to arch his back, to push himself further into Luhan’s mouth, but Luhan put his hands on Minseok’s thighs to stop him.
“Luhan, ah,” Minseok moaned. Luhan just smiled and inched his mouth forward, his tongue swirling around the tip. Minseok grabbed handfuls of Luhan’s hair and Luhan let go of Minseok’s thighs. Minseok thrusted forward and Luhan took all of him. When Minseok came Luhan didn’t pull away. He swallowed and pulled away after a bit. Minseok was panting and Luhan just smiled. He slinked up, his face now inches away from Minseok’s.
“I’ve been waiting so long to taste you Minseok, and let me tell you; the wait was worth it,” Luhan said, his voice husky. Minseok kissed the side of Luhan’s neck, nibbling on the skin. Luhan wrapped his arms around Minseok, his nails raking Minseok’s back. "I want to feel you around me.“ Minseok pulled away slightly and Luhan kissed him deeply. Luhan pulled away and started to maneuver, kissing Minseok’s neck and moving to the side. Minseok moved with him and found himself lying on his stomach as Luhan kissed his spine.
Luhan gripped Minseok’s thighs, this time accidentally digging his nails into the soft flesh. Luhan kissed Minseok’s back again, licking the red lines he had made only moments before. When he pushed himself into Minseok he went slowly with precision he didn’t even know he had. Minseok moaned loudly as Luhan began to move. Luhan let out a groan of his own when he came.
When everything was over Luhan pulled out and let go of Minseok’s thighs. He saw beads of red on his nails and on Minseok’s thighs. He kissed them lightly and licked the blood off before lying next to Minseok.
"I love you Luhan,” Minseok breathed. Luhan smiled and kissed Minseok lightly.
“I love you too,” he responded. Minseok smiled back and closed his eyes as Luhan pulled the blanket over both of them.
Minseok woke up first and got up carefully. He was sore in more places than just his leg. He smiled and pulled on some boxers before heading to take a shower. He walked out quietly and found Jongdae, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun passed out in various places. Baekhyun was sleeping on a chair, Jongdae was asleep on the floor, and Chanyeol was asleep on the coffee table. Kyungsoo poked his head out of the kitchen and smiled.
“Good morning,” he greeted.
“Morning,” Minseok replied.
“I’m making coffee and breakfast right now, but do you need anything?” Kyungsoo asked.
“No, I’m good. Seriously Kyungsoo, you’re worse than a mom. You need a new hobby,” Minseok commented. Kyungsoo just shrugged and went back to the kitchen. Minseok chuckled and took his shower. When he came out everyone else was up. They were all sitting at the table and Chanyeol looked almost ill.
“Seriously Kyungsoo, how do you NOT have a hangover? You should be rolling on the ground in agony like the rest of us,” Chanyeol grumbled. Jongdae didn’t look too bad, but Baekhyun looked almost as bad as Chanyeol. Luhan looked positively chipper and smiled as Minseok walked into the room.
“I just don’t,” Kyungsoo replied, putting plates in front of them.
“Not so loud,” Chanyeol said wincing. There was a knock at the door and the other three groaned. Minseok just chuckled.
“I’ll get it,” Luhan said. He got up and answered the door, Minseok following. On the other side of the doorway was a tall boy with pitch black hair and intense looking eyes. He was almost intimidating. He looked like he was about to say something, but his eyes grew wide with shock.
“Luhan?” he asked, his voice full of disbelief. "Oh my God Luhan!“ The boy practically jumped on Luhan, hugging him hard. Luhan looked shocked. "Jesus Luhan! Where have you been? What have you been doing? Why didn’t you call? Wufan!” The boy let go of Luhan and another boy came into view, this one just as tall and just as intimidating. He looked at Luhan and blinked before getting tears in his eyes.
“I’m sorry, but who are you two?” Minseok asked, walking over.
“I’m Wufan, Luhan’s ex, who are you?” the blonde boy replied. Minseok looked at Luhan in shock. Luhan looked just as shocked.
“I’m Minseok, Luhan’s boyfriend,” Minseok replied slowly. Wufan looked confused, as if he had heard the name before. It took only a moment to realization to invade his features.
“I’m Zitao,” the other boy said quickly, grabbing Wufan’s arm. Wufan shook his head quickly and lost his expression. There was something familiar about the name Wufan, but Minseok was having a hard time placing it. "Luhan, why haven’t you called us?“
"I’m sorry. I was in a car accident a few months back. I don’t remember anything before that,” Luhan replied. Zitao and Wufan looked at each other and then looked at Luhan with worry.
“Are you okay?” Wufan asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I’ve been living here since I was released from the hospital,” Luhan explained. "I was in a coma and Minseok helped me pull through.“ Luhan took Minseok’s hand and smiled at him. Minseok smiled back, his mind still searching for who Wufan was and why he sounded so familiar.
"Well we just moved in next door. We came to greet the new neighbors,” Zitao said, wrapping his arm around Wufan’s shoulders loosely.
“Oh, and it’s nice to meet you. I’d bring over the other roommate, but he’s currently battling a hangover,” Minseok replied. The two smiled and chuckled.
“Luhan, can we talk to you later?” Wufan asked.
“Uh, yeah, that’s fine,” Luhan replied. The two nodded slightly and went back to their apartment. Luhan closed the door and looked deep in thought. "Wufan…“ It was then memories flooded into Minseok’s mind. He doubled over and fell to his knees, holding his head. Luhan’s voice sounded so distant as he shouted Minseok’s name.
Minseok walked on the sidewalk. It was late and he was on his way home from visiting a friend across town. It wasn’t far enough to want to drive so he decided to walk. He waited for the light to turn green before walking in the crosswalk. He saw headlights out of the corner of his eye and looked over. The car wasn’t slowing down. He tried to get out of the way, but the car hit him, mostly on the left side. He heard the car tires squeal before blacking out.
He was drifting in and out of consciousness when he cracked his eyes open. Everything hurt and he moaned in pain. He could see a boy with curly blonde hair pacing above him, holding the phone to his ear.
"Wufan I hit someone! What part of that did you miss?” he shouted. He had tears in his eyes and was running his free hand through his hair endlessly. "I already told you where I was! I think he’s still alive. Wufan, there’s so much blood. I can’t stay here! No! I can’t!“ Minseok saw the boy put the phone in his pocket and run back to his car. He heard the car drive away right before he passed out again.
Minseok felt Luhan’s hand on his shoulder and he slapped it away. He looked at Minseok confused and concerned. Minseok just looked at Luhan with disbelief and hurt.
"Minseok, what’s wrong?” Luhan asked, his eyes pleading.
“You hit me,” Minseok said.
“I don’t understand,” Luhan said, sounding frantic.
“The person that hit me with the car and left me. It was you,” Minseok replied. He stood up and backed away from Luhan. Luhan didn’t get up, his eyes wide and afraid. At first he didn’t know how to respond. He stood up slowly.
“I…I…” Luhan began. He put his hand to his hand, obviously remembering. He looked up at Minseok and took a step toward him. Minseok just backed away from him. "Minseok…“ Luhan reached for him with tears in his eyes, but Minseok just looked away. Luhan grabbed his jacket and Jongdae’s car keys, running out of the apartment.
"What the hell just happened?” Jongdae asked, looking concerned. Wufan also appeared in the doorway, looking fearful.
“He ran me over Jongdae…” Minseok said softly. Jongdae put his hand on Minseok’s shoulder and Wufan ran to the window, opening it.
“Luhan! Stop!” Wufan shouted. Minseok looked over and heard the car drive off. Wufan stormed over to Minseok and punched him in the face. Minseok fell to the ground, rubbing his cheek. Chanyeol and Baekhyun held Wufan back. "You son of a bitch! Luhan takes things like this hard!“
"How do you think I felt?” Minseok demanded as Jongdae helped him up. "He left me there!“
"He was scared! I thought taking away his license and phone away the next day would keep him in the house, but he was so upset! He drove anyway and apparently ended up hitting a tree! He’s not in the right mindset right now! I can’t even imagine what he’s feeling right now. And he hasn’t been on his meds for months,” Wufan explained. Minseok looked confused.
“Meds? There’s nothing wrong with him,” Minseok said curiously.
“I wouldn’t expect you to know. He was taking anti-depressants. He gets suicidal when he’s overly upset,” Wufan explained. Chanyeol and Baekhyun let go of Wufan, shock apparent on everyone’s face.
“Go find him,” Kyungsoo said, walking over. Minseok looked over.
“You can take my car. Don’t let him do anything to himself,” Baekhyun said. Minseok nodded and Baekhyun gave him his keys. Minseok took them and raced down the stairs, not even wanting to wait for the elevator. He jumped into the car and sped off, looking for Jongdae’s car.
“Luhan…Where did you go…” Minseok asked to the universe. He thought for a moment. He took a sharp right, cutting off a car. He wasn’t sure, but he had an idea where he went. He drove to the scene where he got hit. He could hear car horns and tire squealing in the distance and followed the sounds. He could see the car and Luhan behind the wheel, crying and staring straight. He followed Luhan’s line if sight and his eyes grew wide. He was looking at the bridge.
Minseok thought quickly and sped. Baekhyun’s car was better than Jongdae’s and Minseok apologized silently for what he was about to do. He beat Luhan to the bridge and turned the wheel sharply, getting in Luhan’s way. Luhan hit the breaks, but too late. The two cars collided and Baekhyun’s was forced off the bridge and into the river below.
For a moment Minseok couldn’t hear anything. Time seemed to flow in slow motion and it was almost peaceful. Minseok could feel Luhan’s hands all over him again. He could feel Luhan’s lips on his own. He smiled slightly.
When the car hit the water Minseok’s head was slammed hard against the window, hard enough to crack the window. The water was starting to fill the car and for a moment Minseok felt panic. He couldn’t breathe and the water hadn’t even reached his head. Everything was blurry and he could feel warm liquid streaming down the side of his head. He had enough sense to hold his breath as soon as he was completely submerged. He felt the car hit the bottom of the river and just didn’t move. He couldn’t.
He looked at the cracked window and looked slightly shocked. Luhan was there, looking afraid. He had something in his hands and was pounding at the already cracked window. Minseok closed his eyes and it felt like ages until he felt Luhan pulling at him. His lungs were on fire and coughed out air, sucking in water. Luhan managed to get him out of the car and up to the shore. Minseok was losing consciousness as Luhan pulled him onto the grass.
“Minseok! Why did you do that? You’re so stupid!” Luhan cried. Minseok opened his eyes and reached up, putting his hand on Luhan’s cheek. Luhan held his hand there, tears streaming down his face.
“I…didn’t want to see you get hurt…I love…” Minseok lost consciousness before he could finish his sentence.
Luhan and the others sat in the waiting room at the hospital. Minseok’s injuries had been extensive and he was taken into surgery. Luhan’s eyes were red and puffy. He would still be crying, but he no longer had any tears left. The others came and went, getting coffee and snacks. Luhan never moved. He just sat in the chair, his arms resting on his knees and his hands clasped together with his head down. The others tried to talk to him, but he wasn’t listening.
The nurse walked out and Luhan immediately jumped up. He tried not to sway, since he hadn’t eaten, slept, or even moved in about 8 hours. She sighed and looked at everyone.
“We did the best we could, but we’re not sure he’ll ever come too,” the nurse explained. "If you want to see him we request that you only go in one at a time.“ Luhan looked at everyone.
"Go ahead,” Jongdae said. Luhan raced into Minseok’s room and felt his heart break all over again. He was hooked up to so many machines. Luhan pulled up a chair and took Minseok’s hand in his. His voice was shaking, but clear.
“Hi. It’s Luhan. I just wanted to let you know that it’s March 28th. This would be the first day you’ve been asleep.”
