His eyes were wild beneath his visor. He blinked and looked at the small creature that he had now come up to through the dust. It was… a human? “Are there more!? I didn’t mean to… I have to…” He turned around to look back onto the disaster and the damage that he had done to the houses.
“Hello- ah!” Bruno yelped, freezing but allowing the bigger man to grab him. He supposed he’d be reacting pretty much the same, but it was still alarming. “I’m fine, everyone’s fine!” Bruno blurted out all at once. Then took a deep breath and said more slowly, “There’s more people, yes, but we’re okay. We were mostly evacuated before you crashed. But you’re hurt, we should take care of that. Come with me.”
He squirmed out of Hunk’s grip and grabbed his sleeve to attempt to pull him towards Julieta. His ears were ringing from the impact, and the dust wasn’t close to settling, but he knew exactly where she’d be. Even if he didn’t, he could hear her calling out for anyone injured. This stranger wasn’t cut badly, but surely a bite could be spared. It took him a moment to register the small detail among the chaos, but this man… He was dressed strangely. So strangely that it made Bruno pause and stare at the younger man, bewildered, before moving on. Not important right now.
“We knew you were coming, so we had a little time to prepare. Um, if you can move your lion thing soon, that would be good, because we have to rebuild those houses, but other than that…” He trailed off into anxious mumbling to himself. He felt strange, a mix of too calm and too frazzled. A glance towards Dolores as he passed her got him a thumbs up- no one was missing or dead. As the ringing cleared from his head he could hear Luisa already hard at work getting to the few people that had been trapped or couldn’t walk and bringing them back to Julieta. Isabella was helping her, using vines to ensure structures wouldn’t further collapse when Luisa moved them. Pepa was thundering and raining, but at least it was helping clear the dust faster.
“I think we’re fine. Are you fine? I mean, other than your chin. And uh, the panic. And everything.” He resisted the urge to ask what the hell was happening.
“What!?” Hunk called out a little too loud as he was doing his best to hear through the buzzing ring in his own ears. Evacuated? “You… You knew?” He blinked and looked around. There was no immediate danger and he couldn’t see anyone else there, but that was… HE hadn’t even known that he was going to crash ten minutes ago. How far up had he been? How early had they seen Yellow in the sky to have time to get to safety?
He jumped as the man squirmed and then grabbed on to his armored wrist and tugged. Without any fuss the paladin followed along. He didn’t know where he was or who this man was, but so far he had not acted in a threatening manner. “I don’t understand. I’m glad you did have time to get out of the way but… how?” He stumbled a bit and coughed as the dust was thick. There were other people here. A girl his own age that did a thumbs up as they passed. Hunk blinked and looked back at her as they moved. She also looked human. The thumbs up was definitely a human gesture. And her dress? He looked back to the man that was leading him. His clothes also looked like regular human made. If a bit worn and dated.
A crack of thunder managed to sound through Hunk’s muffled hearing and they passed from dry dust to a shower of rain. Instinctively he put up his arm to protect himself even if his helmet and his visor kept all of it out of his eyes anyway. Leaves and vines bloomed from the ground and wrapped around a house to stop it from collapsing. “Uh…” A young woman just out right grabbed a house and pushed it back from the brink of the crater that Yellow had dug up. Just enough for it to stand safely on solid ground again. “I…” he paused for a moment and stopped walking. “I’m fine?” absently he reached up and touched his chin. As his hand came away he looked at his fingers and saw the tips smeared with blood. “Oh, didn’t even feel that. Adrenaline rush.” Some muttered words from the crowd came through. Word that Hunk sort of recognized the sound of but didn’t understand. And his translator didn’t pick it up? “What? Wait? Are you speaking spanish? How are you speaking spanish? Where am I? Am I on Earth?”
