Somebody asked for a baby picture of Bug, so here, have a fuzzy dinosaur puppy.

The bird hounds are spotty, light silver in color when they first hatch, though they will turn brown when they molt and grow their wing feathers. The wattles (the blue “ear” thingies. Female hounds have them too, but white) won’t grow in untill closer to adulthood. Bug here is darker gray, just like his adult plumage is darker morph, and since he’s piebald, his white patches are visible from the get go.

Felt like doodling some Entican stuff for a change. Was supposed to be just something quick, but apparently it’s been several hours since I started. Oops.

Anyway. Looks like Maaro’s post caravan has stopped for a break, and Didor found some frilly toad creature lazily basking in the sun. Doing some life drawing like a true artist!

I still don’t really know what shape the dinosaur project thingy will eventually be (there’s probably enough material to fill up a book already), but I still do want to do actual illustrations for it. Like full watercolor stuff.

Is there anything special you’d like to see? Like illustrations. Looking for ideas here.

For new people, the dinosaurs project thingy follows a small family of Singing People (troodon) and their small herd of cows (domesticated Einiosaurus) - and a dog (Dromaeosaurus) - living their life. You can find more about it in the tags #the Herd (working title) and #dinosaur headworld (lots of overlap, but also reference stuff etc)

#dinosaur headworld#the herd #This thing was supposed to be just a calendar at first #Can you imagine? #And then I spent seven years doodling everything but the calendar illustrations

    I miss my people.

Really miss living with/near other creative people.

Miss watching cartoons and shows and analyzing them. Talking about storytelling.

Or just talking and not having to watch what you say. Like sometimes it’s nice to talk/commiserate about queer stuff without having to either dumb down your experiences or having to hold a lecture on queer history and theory first.

    Or just hanging out.

And not having to deal with a stupid ADHD brain all by myself, because I’m definetely not handling it well alone.

    *frustrated grumbling*

Brainstorming! Gods, I miss brainstorming so bad sometimes.

Urgh. Can’t wait for the plague to be over. I am somewhat of an introvert, but I’m definetely not introvert enough for this.

Had a bit of a “omg, there’s still daylight! It’s spring!” - moment when I left work today.

Which I think is kinda funny, as I was literally wading through knee deep snow at the same time but hey.

    papermonkeyism:

Oh, hey, apologies in advance if I’m being snappier than usual.

Got prescribed this medication for nerve based headache couple months ago, that also makes one more tired, and I just got a recommendation to try a higher dose (as that bugger is still not gone). I don’t think I’ve woken up refreshed once since the start of november…

Considering I now also have to try and steer my sleep schedule for work time, waking up almost four hours earlier than what’s my natural, I don’t expect to be at my most patient for a while. I get cranky when I’m tired. Sorry about that!

Also I should note it’s not the headache as much as the medication that’s bothering me. The headache is this dull, mostly just annoying thing that comes and goes occasionally in waves behind my left ear. It’s been going on, on and off, since last spring, most likely caused by an irritated facial nerve, possibly originating somewhere in my neck.

It’s thankfully nowhere near the scale of migraines!

    Question:

Okay sculpted isn't the right word, but I thought production was limited so I may have to wait for the figure to actually be made. Yes I know you don't have anything to do with BotM other than being a fan, but I was wondering how long you had to wait for your figures since you are the only person I follow that has any opinion on BotM or purchased from them.

    Answer:

Ah. Well, I was a kickstarter backer, so I was already a number on their manufacturing order before the order was sent off to the factory. Only the green Monoclonius figure I got was kickstarter exclusive, none of the others are limited edition. They aren’t individually custom made, that would be a horrible amount of work and several orders of magnitude more expensive.

Creative Beast Studio is a long time industry professional, I’m pretty sure they knew how their own industry works.

    Question:

I ordered my first BotM figure yesterday (Zuniceratops) how long on average is the wait for it to be sculpted and shipped out?

    Answer:

    Sculpted? What?

All the first wave figures have already been manufactured and will be sent from wherever they’re keeping them, like a warehouse or something, I don’t know. You purchased an already existing figure.

When I asked them for split shipping (I paid for figures in both first and second wave, and I was too impatient to wait untill the manufacturing of the second wave finishes) I got a shipping notification in a day or two. Can’t remember.

Also why are you asking me, I don’t work for the Beasts of Mesozoic or the Creative Beast Studio, I just backed their ceratopsid series on kickstarter because I wanted some. (and then kept advertising them because I wanted that dang sweet Pachyrhinosaurus unlocked so I could have one)

You guys really liked the dinosaur kitties, huh. Someone asked about different colors, so I did some extra doodling to give you a spectrum of kittysaurs! (Instead of going to bed an hour ago like I was supposed to)

They also have a solid/stripeless morph, but I ran out of space.

(not Sinosauropteryx specifically, because wrong continent and time period, but definetely inspired by it)

    Question:

Something you could do is maybe upload some of ur art to like inprint or redbubble? they print it and send it to customers ^^ and redbubble does stickers too! I can't attest for their quality or how easy the setup is tho

    Answer:

I’d have to scan it first, though.

I can’t access my scanner without cleaning my apartment first (it’s in a sliding box thingy underneath my sofa. Because I spend most of my time on said sofa, there are Very Much Stuff in front of it, preventing the box from being pulled out enough to use. My scanner is A3, that’s double the normal size so it’s not enough to just edge it out slightly) which is… Nyergh. Don’t wanna. And since I haven’t used the scanner in a year, it’s unclear if any of my drivers are up to date.

I am lazy and not motivated enough.

    Question:

Wait they have a Torosaurus figure? I thought Torosaurus was a now dubious genus that was absorbed into Triceratops.

    Answer:

Dude, I am SO not touching that.

As far as I know the debate on whether toro and trice are different species or just different morphs of the same one was never settled, and the amount of papers I’d have to read to have any opinions of my own is frankly ginormous and way not in the range of my attention span.

    Question:

Hello! Is there any chance you'd sell that piece with the baby raptors you posted today, or perhaps a print of it?

    Answer:

I don’t know? I don’t want to cut up my sketchbook, and I hope I can one day use the drawing in my project thingy, so the piece itself is a no.

Making prints at the moment is a bit of a hassle too. I don’t have a printer, and my scanner hasn’t been used in a year, and I can’t really reach it at the moment.

So I do not know. I could send a high res photo of it, if you want to print yourself?

    Question:

Are Beasts of the Mesozoic planning to make any other dinosaur lines after the ceratopsians? If I can get a sauropod with a fully articulating neck and tail I can die happy!

    Answer:

Their next series is tyrannosaurs. They have a twitter where they post updates frequently:

    https://twitter.com/Beast_SculptKit

They have a website as well, if you’d prefer that. I just hang around at twitter more myself. You can just google that.

    Question:

Hello, can I translate your comic into Russian?

    Answer:

I don’t know. Depends? What would the translation be for?

If you just want it more accessible for your friends to read for free, yeah I guess. As long as I’m credited and there are links to me/my stuff and the comic’s original form.

If you want to sell it, or make money with it, whether it be through printed pages, paywalls or any kind of payment for views, then no.

I do not allow anyone to make money with my work, without specific permission.

Late to the Beasts of the Mesozoic party, but I just heard they plan on making 1/18th scale psittacosaurus and protoceratops to scale with the other ceratopsians (the original 1/6th scale were made to be on scale with the raptor series). They are going to be so tiny! :D

    Question:

What made you fall in love with Einiosaurus? Was it doing research for your dinosaur herd project? Just think it looks cool?

    Answer:

Because of the project thingy, yeah.

I knew I was going to use Troodon/Stenonychosaurus in it, and I wanted a ceratopsid-that-wasn’t-Triceratops as their herd animal. I then went and whined about it to my librarian friend, who dug me a list of all the not-Triceratops hornfaces that coexisted with Troodon/Stenonychosaurus, and I chose from there.

Einiosaurus was small enough to be reasonable (only a rhino sized), had an interesting frill (the two spikes) but wasn’t too hard to draw (crossing off Styracosaurus frill for having to draw all the frill spikes in perspective, and Achelousaurus nasal boulder thingy wasn’t as interesting) and, well. Just look at that nose horn, it’s ridiculous! I love it!

And after sinking more than half a decade into drawing them, I’ve grown quite attached. (I started getting serious on the project thingy somewhere around late 2013, so they’ve been with me for a while)

Okay, it was bothering me, so I had to give it a try. I just don’t understand invertebrate anatomy well… Also it doesn’t have modern relatives to reference from either, but an attempt was made!

Here, have an Anomalocaris, one of my fave non-archosaur prehistoric creatures, and one of the first actual predators the planet ever had!

    Question:

While everyone's asking dinosaur questions: do you have a favorite (either dinosaur or other prehistoric beastie) that's outside your normal favored species groups? Alternatively, one you think is super cool but hate drawing? (Because I don't know about you but there are some creatures I LOVE but drawing them is a nightmare. LOL)

    Answer:

I’m a big fan of Anomalocaris! It was one of the first non-dinosaur prehistoric creatures I learned about as a kid, I still remember this documentary about its discovery (it had CG graphics! That was a new thing back in the day). It left a lasting impression on me.

Haven’t drawn it much though, not good with invertebrates. I’m way more familiar with tetrapod vertebrates.

Trilobites are also made of awesome.
