For the last post I wanted to talk about a more political song. It is called Running by Andras Kallay-Saunders, who is a Hungarian American singer. This song was chosen to represent Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 which took place in Denmark.
The song is about a child living in a abusing home, where her father beats her. It was inspired by a friend of the artist. During an interview, Andras told that he wanted to bring awarness to this topic through his voice and that he wanted to encourage the victims not to be afraid to speak up and ask for help.
The video clip represents well the lyrics, as well as the Eurovision performance where we can see two dancers that embody the father and the girl.
This song is really powerful, and conveys an important message. I think it is great that it was presented to the such a big contest because it helps gaining visibility, as well as showing that a song can be entertaining and political at the same time (as long as we focus on the lyrics of course). It can be linked to the “politics” chapter in the Negus, but also to the fact that a video clip/performance can serve a song.
