Their first meeting and Laurent is already making his moves on poor
edamameedamura… even kudou san is blushing XD
I know it’s bait. I will eat this bait with delight.
Best character of the series.
There would be someone who cried for this scene, not only because they loved Steven and wanted him to be happy, but also because they had went through the same thing, trying to always be strong while holding themselves back because “no one would like a weak crybaby“, and kept hiding the bomb until they couldn’t and exploded and hurted not only them but everyone else.
That scene is what they always want. What they truly yearn for. And so, lacking that love, their feeling was a mix of loneliness and pure happiness. They couldn’t help but imagine themselves in that situation and felt like their heart was purified from the warmth, a kindness they might not even know they need.
Everyone want, even for just a moment, for a kind person to say to them:
“I want to know what you are feeling.“
Even the person telling this line.

not to be fake deep about Minecraft on main but. anyone else ever get the feeling that Minecraft is a post-post-apocalyptic sort of world that, with each update, is starting to heal? we start with skeletons and zombies and giant spiders and weird mutated things, but life slowly returns - scary things live in the ocean, yes, but coral reefs came back, diverse fish populations returned, there are dolphins and squids and stuff. in 1.16 the nether goes from a blighted hellscape to still terrifying, but a place that can sustain life. there’s new types of trees, animals, flowers, bees were added. basically the Minecraft game universe feels like a place that, with each update, is healing from something terrible, and that’s just neat
And then human found nuclear bomb formular.
Nagisa Momoe’s a loner who lives in a house full of garbage and loves to read fairy tales with unhappy endings because she has a fascination with the “the end” just wrapping everything up nicely.
Her mom’s hospitalized.
Her dad left them.
Kyubey’s been pestering Nagisa to become a magical girl.
Nagisa’s kind of shrewd and says no to Kyubey introducing her to a magical girl to see what it’s like (It’s not good to follow strangers) and asks tough questions like “If being a magical girl’s so great, why don’t you become a magical girl and do everything yourself?” or “You’ve made lots of contracts before, so what do you think I should wish for?” or “Isn’t it a waste to use magic to wish for money, only to buy something not magical?” or “Wouldn’t wishing for something be the same as admitting your life isn’t enough?”
Kyubey and Inui Itsumi (the girl he wanted to introduce Nagisa to) talk about the Sleepwalking Ghost and how Inui’s kind of pissed off that the Sleepwalking Ghost has been targeting someone important to her.
Nagisa’s excuses herself after class by saying she needs to go visit her mom in the hospital (a lie). Instead, she goes to the store and buys a shitload of cheese. She doesn’t actually like cheese all that much, but she always buys cheese for her mom and eats whatever’s left over.
The Sleepwalking Ghost saves Nagisa from a familiar and reveals herself to be Yu, a magical girl with no memory and has to resort to lists of names to remind herself who’s friend or foe. She kills people on the ‘bad’ list, sells what she can from the body, and dumps it in a witch labyrinth. She lists Nagisa as ‘good’ but notes that she has another Momoe on her 'bad’ list. Kyubey keeps telling Nagisa that Yu is an outlier and not a magical girl that should be taken as representative of anything. He doubts she can even tell witches apart from humans. Nagisa even thought Yu was a witch before she saved her.
Nagisa thinks hard about her wish and quickly realizes she could heal her mom… so that her mom will love her again and realize it was a mistake to stop loving her. To do this, she needs her mom to know that she is the cause of her getting healed. Thus, Nagisa wants to heal her mom for her own self-satisfaction. And to do so, she needs her mom’s consent.
She brings all the cheese to her mom, who scolds her to buy so much when she can’t eat all of it. Her mom then goes on to say that her husband abandoned her, and Nagisa’s just pretending to care for her, just like everybody else.
Nagisa tells her mom that she can wish for anything, even to cure her illness.
Instead, Nagisa’s mom asks her to kill everyone.
Everyone that laughed at her. Everyone that pretended to care for her.
She doesn’t care about getting cured.
Her life went downhill when Nagisa was born.
Nagisa runs away to where she told Kyubey to wait for her (Kyubey didn’t see the point since he could’ve just gone up with her since her mom can’t see him)
Nagisa decides to wish for a cheesecake.
The yummiest cheesecake in the world.
The yummiest… in her mom’s eyes.
Nagisa becomes a magical girl and swears to live freely, for herself, and only herself.
Inui and Yu get into a fight since Yu wants to kill the guy important to her. Inui gets her ass handed to her and is about to go witch. She asks Kyubey to kill her, or she’ll turn into a witch. Kyubey thanks her for fulfilling her duty.
Nagisa gets caught in Inui’s witch barrier.
Kyubey tells her she can’t defeat the witch at her level and asks why she cares if her mom dies since she gave up on curing her and she’s going to die anyway. Nagisa swears she can’t let her mom die because she’s going to save her. Her selfish wish saved her.
Yu saves her and kills the witch as Nagisa faints.
Nagisa wakes up and realizes that Yu’s gonna kill her mom. Kyubey bids her farewell and expresses regret that she couldn’t have worked harder and that he has to go get Mami to hunt her down.
Nagisa enters her mom’s hospital room, only to find Yu has stabbed her. Yu finally realizes that it was Nagisa’s mom and reassures her that everything will be fine now that she killed her. Yu wanted to sell her organs, but it’s only right that Nagisa gets her mom’s body. Nagisa tells her to leave. Yu bids her farewell and says she considers her a friend.
In her dying breaths, Nagisa’s mom begs Nagisa to call a doctor since a horned, humanoid monster stabbed her. Nagisa just stands there silently as she disobeys her mother order for the first time for the last time: Please Respond.
The story ends with a fairy tale of how Nagisa became a magical girl alone and died alone on a day not-too-cold, not-too-hot. The last thing she remembered seeing was being surrounded by more candy than she could eat.
But the cheese was gone.
So much candy, but no delicious cheese.
Cheese, cheese, where is the cheese?
Mom loves cheese. Nagisa loves cheese.
Cheese, cheese, where is the cheese?
Fun facts: It appears as if Inui’s witch form is Uhrmann, this was the witch Sayaka had killed in the manga and just her familiars in the anime.
The one Inui was trying to protect appeared to be Shou. The same Shou from episode 8 that Sayaka ended up killing. Funny how Sayaka ends up killing them both
like, i wanna believe that this was a vanoé reference with all the panel arrangement and stuff and noé appearing right when we got vobm/luna‘s monologue, but the rational part of my brain says that it’s vanijeanne foreshadowing :/ (wich would arguably make more sense but… the way their relationship has been established as something unhealthy… how mochijun tries to make a romance out of something that really should’t be a romance imo… the fact that vanoé would have had such a great setup and foreshadowing… leaves a really bitter taste with me)
I completely ship vanijeanne, but my rational brain told me chapter 42 was just Mochizuki-sensei toying with our feeling.
Starting from Vanitas stating “I’m cold“.
This panel makes me think it wasn’t normal feeling of coldness. It seems whatever power he used was rewriting him (maybe make him disappear from the world?), thus making him gradually losing warm.
In the next panel, notice how Vanitas didn’t show any special emotion toward Jeanne hugging him (if he was moved because Jeanne gave him warm just like Luna, that would be the moment he blushed).
Jeanne suddenly blushed and drank blood from Vanitas. Now, my shipper ass was screaming “TSUN JEANNE IS HIDING HER EMBARASSEMENT“, but this:
makes me feel like Jeanne is special in some way and can detect the after effects from Vanitas. Her drinking could be the way to fix that effect, return Vanitas’s warm (noticed how Vanitas started blushing from the moment he was drank from til the end of the chapter).
Vanitas had stated a long time ago that he felt “something“ from Jeanne, and because he didn’t know what it is, he called it “love“. And that happened at their first meeting, before Vanitas even fully knew Jeanne. My predict is this is Mochizuki-sensei’s clever way to hide the real relationship between Jeanne and Vanitas, more specifically, the relationship between Jeanne’s forbidden words and Vanitas’s power.
