Could be cool, yeah.
Could be cool, yeah.
OK so wait.
Tyrian got caught by a Huntsman named Pickerel before he joined Salem.
After Tyrian broke free, Pickerel was later found dead likely during either Tyrian and Hazel’s Huntsmen purge of Mistral or just in the years between his joining Salem and today.
A pickerel is a type of frog.
God can this man be stopped.
A high-quality version of Tyrian’s arrest record I snagged off Discord. Interesting thing at the end there is how it specifies that the last words of the pilot, a “T. Cornetto,” are “What are you? What are you?!” before he’s attacked by a Grimm while Tyrian says “Beautiful…”
I think Salem led the attack on Tyrian’s transport herself.
Me as I realize we’ve now gone half the season without even seeing Mercury or Emerald.
God I miss my kids.
I’m guessing in light of Yang’s hard push against secrets (that are being held from her, rules for thee not for me), they might just say Yang told them during the timeskip between the Battle of Haven and the Argus Limited.
Or they may actually make it so Yang didn’t tell anyone and then Yang apologists will have a busy year from everyone going “Wait. That’s hypocritical.”
Earlier this year a few mini-animations were leaked by someone showing Jaune fighting someone with Yatsuhashi’s weapon, Sun vs Pyrrha and “Neo Breakout,” which had her doing a kick and then fighting Yang a bit.
For me at least the problem with V7′s BB scenes is less that they’re obnoxious and more that at the halfway mark of the season, Yang has had maybe two scenes (during the montage with Ruby and her opinion on the lies to Ironwood) where her primary purpose in a scene hasn’t just been to fawn over Blake. Blake at least has had scenes like her bit with Weiss in chapter 3, but Yang has lost so much agency this volume that she’s just become Blake’s cheerleader- I’m getting flashbacks to Volume 1 where Yang had maybe two character traits in “Punchy girl” and “Obnoxious older sister,” except now it’s “punchy girl” and “has the romantic confidence of the boring first girl in the harem anime who wins out over the more interesting options because she got there first.”
As is, until the plot finally gives Yang a new personal stake in either a return of the rivalry with Mercury, Raven coming back and having to work through those emotions or giving her a new arc villain, V7 hasn’t given her anything to actually do or anything to make her grow as a character beyond her relationship status. And we already know that they’re doubling down on B&Y stuff becuase RT themselves leaked that they’re fighting Robyn so… OK.
I don’t want Blake and Yang, two characters who already can feel very disconnected from the wider plot on a good day, to basically just become one singular character, and it doesn’t help that the show isn’t even trying to suggest that they’re working with other people and having offscreen interactions as per Marrow, they exclusively work with each other.
I want to like BB as a ship but the writing and the handling of the characters makes that… not something I care for at the moment.
I mean, I’m still let down by the crippling lack of Kick Boi and Gem Queen but fuck it that episode was really good!
Tyrian and Watts proving that RWBY’s villain problem is just that Cinder is a fucking bore, the further we go from Cinder the better the show gets ISTG. Can these men be stopped I doubt it because they’re both God tier.
Aheago hoodie but it’s just this.
I’m fully with Marrow. RWBY has long had a problem of only having partners interact with each other seriously (case in point Ruby and Blake’s lack of real scenes together, Sun and Neptune never talking to the cardboard cut outs we call Sage and Scarlet, and Pyrrha’s lack of bonding time with Ren and Nora), and I honestly felt Yang and Blake’s reaction was a bit… overly hostile for lack of a better word. Like it’d be one thing if Marrow was genuinely insulting them over how much time they spend together or made a joke at their expense, but he was legitimately was just pointing out that they only ever work with each other.
As for BB not interacting with the wider team… well again Blake and Ruby already don’t interact so little will change there, and so far there’s been a healthy amount of Blake and Weiss interaction this season and we did get a scene of Yang and Ruby during the montage. I’m not gonna worry yet about it ostracising Blake and Yang from Ruby and Weiss.
I think that this is the first time this volume my reaction to an episode was pretty much “Yeah that’s good! I like that!” Chapter 4 I felt was slow so it’s good to see that the main plot’s finally showing up. I’ve liked the slower pace but I’m ready for the show to get back into the thick of it.
Robyn you’re… kind of an idiot. Please inform the audience what you expected to happen when you attacked Clover and the military? Because you were gearing up to attack and I’m gonna be honest… even without Penny and outnumbered 5 to 3, Ruby, Clover and Qrow would have had this in the bag. I find it weird that after all the hype for Robyn her first scene was very antagonistic. She has a point, but given how she should be focused on keeping her reputation clear in advance of the election, confronting the military like this seems… really dumb.
Really not enjoying Penny and Ruby’s continued refusal to just talk about Penny’s death. Like, I know a lot of people are happy with how Penny’s just back but I just want her to acknowledge it a little. Just have Ruby talk about how much she missed Penny, even show her how she incorporated Penny’s outfit into her Mistral gear to show how much she cared. I wanna like Nuts and Dolts just give me something heavy.
Weiss and Winter scene was really nice. I genuinely liked it and they have wonderful chemistry… except for Weiss implying Ironwood’s keeping secrets because it seems team RWBY are overdosing on their hypocrisy juice again (Oz is just laughing his ass off right now at this BS don’t @ me). Still, it at least led to Team Atlas going above and beyond to show how trustworthy they are. I am so looking forward to either the fandom demonizing James and Winter or the show hard turning to make James the villain.
So Winter’s gonna die now though, right? Like they’re setting up being the new Winter Maiden and… look Cinder hasn’t shown up yet to ruin the season I can easily see her showing up just to kill Winter and steal the Maiden powers. God I am not looking forward to her showing up I’m liking that villains who aren’t boring are the focus this year. I’m just so fucking done with Cinder meanwhile Watts and Tyrian have just stolen the damn show this year. If Hazel’s writing is even half as good as these guys during Vacuo I can easily see Hazel starting to top villain rankings.
If you told me three years ago “One of your favorite scenes in a RWBY episode will be team FNKI,” I’d have punched you. Guess I need to punch my past self now, I really loved FNKI’s designs! Feels like a lovely throwback to the old style of RWBY designs where they went for colorful but practical outfits. Really digging Neon going for the Jolyne Cujo haircut, Flynt’s outfit is… just his old gear with a jacket (which I’m cool with because you can’t improve what’s already perfect) and the other two members look cool. I’m not sure what role they’ll play beyond fighting in the Battle of Atlas or whatever but it was a sweet little cameo.
I do hope that we get more Oscar and Ironwood stuff and that this isn’t the extent of the two sparring as the OP teased. Volume 7 has already let me down a lot in regards to Oscar’s handling with the exclusion from the party last week (”You’re a valued member of this team Oscar,” what a load of crap Jaune).
Jacques’ plan is either 4D chess or complete bullshit that’s gonna end with his McMansion getting burned down while Whitley and Willow run for the hills. I can’t imagine how pissed off Tyrian must be that after all that time killing people in back alleys, Jacques starts the class war for him by closing an Apple store. Poor scorp man.
Oh and I guess Jaune got eye-fucked by some milfs. Meh?
I did like the episode it’s probably my favourite so far this season. My big problem with Volume 7 so far has just been that they’re taking it really slow, which could either mean that Volumes 8 and 9 will be far more connected and this will be a hell of a trilogy to binge once the Blu Rays drop… or Volume 7′s back half will be a nightmare for pacing. I’m still leery about how this could go, but if they pull it off I’ll sing from the fucking hills about the good job CRWBY did.
Then I’ll immediately go back to calling them out for wasting Emerald, Mercury and Oscar but hey, that’s the price of your favorite characters being supporting.
I mean I toy with a rewrite as a thought experiment but that’s it. For me it’s just a glorified fanfiction and like many of my fanfiction, it’ll never leave the planning stage. My rewrite has the benefit of being able to ignore budget limitations and production issues which means it’s inherently based in delusion.
If I was in charge of RWBY it’d be an absolute trainwreck because I have no experience as a writer or director.
Unlike the people who do RWBY rewrites I have no delusions about thinking I could do it better beyond just that I’d include things that I want which likely wouldn’t make for a better product.
Welcome back, welcome back. I managed to miss last week’s title/summary leak, which for any other show would have been a blessing. With RWBY though I find myself not minding—even hoping for—spoilers, just so I won’t be quite so blindsided by things when I actually watch them. It’s a topsy-turvy world.
We’ll get to that in a bit though. For now, we open on the new Amity Arena immediately flying over the Schnee dust mine. I’m talking the group has barely made it back out into the sun before Ironwood’s men are arriving and setting up base. That’s some real eagerness to get the ball rolling. Funny how Ironwood’s entire plan is doomed to failure and eight of the people helping him to complete it haven’t mentioned that yet…
We get a shot of the Ace Ops triumphantly emerging with Qrow and RWBYJNR positively geeking out over how fantastic their take-down of the geist was. It was admittedly a great battle. The best scene I think we’ve had in a while. Sadly, that charm didn’t carry over into this episode.
Yeah, I did. It’s quite horrible and I hope her and her kid are able to get away and move past this trauma.
So the Ace Ops got their weapon names revealed and… yeah.
Oh hey Jaune got some Gravity Dust alongside his Shield Shield. I’m glad he finally has an AOE.
Still wish he’d just get a fucking gun but I’ll take RWBY finally allowing Jaune to get kills onscreen. I’m happy for the lad. Him and the rest of JNR got some good new gear and outfits.
WTF was up with that Zelda paraglading stuff though
I mean straight from the animator’s mouth, Clover was flirting. I’ll take it.
God I’m gonna miss Kim’s work, she did such lovely scenes at RT like the Kazu/Val sword dance. I agree with her agenda to make RT remember LGBT men exist and will support it beyond her (metaphorical) grave.
Oh I’m so fucking happy Tyrian’s back and being the little psycho I want him to be.
God it’s amazing how much better RWBY gets when you forget Cinder Fall exists.
I’ve gotten a few anons in the last while asking what I think about BB being “canon” now or whatever because of some recent thing like a merch line or something in-show.
Whatever, it’s cool I guess. I’m really not watching RWBY for the main girls anymore (I cannot remember a single time post-V1 where any of them would have made my top 5 and nowadays none of them make my top 10).
Episode 3 was pretty cool though. Digging Ace Ops.
From what we know, the Japanese fandom had a cold reception to Volume 4. Primary reasons given were that they didn’t like the style shift and especially didn’t like the show leaving Beacon. Whether it was because of this, dreading a repeat of the backlash Volume 5 got, or because of some contract negotiations meaning it fell through, Volumes 5 through 7 have yet to get even a tease of a JP dub.
The fandom is still going strong over there with stuff like the manga and the annual Banzai events, but RWBY has really failed to keep up the energy that it had when it was first breaking out there.
It’s actually happening I am GAY IN THIS CHILLI’S TONIGHT LADS
