wow some Portal 2 fanart that’s more accurate to the game. Don’t get used to it. I just wanted to try my hand at something more serious and experimental. Hopefully it’s not too jarring to post a romantic picture of Chell comforting a vunerable Wheatley, the immediately post Wheatley being a bastard and Chell ready to tear him limb from limb. (That’s just the duality of Wheatley I’m afraid)
The thing I find most interesting about this, is how Wheatley is seemingly wearing Cave Johnson’s Jacket, which kind of makes me realize how similar the two are in some aspects. They’re both highly egotistical individuals, who are constantly coming up with terrible ideas that they always see through to t end. Their main difference is that Wheatley seems completely oblivious to the terribleness of his ideas, even as the consequences are unfolding around him. Whereas Cave was (seemingly) fully aware of how batsh*t crazy his plans were, but chose to go through with them anyway. Cave was a clever and charismatic businessman, with a habit of failing upwards and brute forcing his way past consequences. Whereas Wheatley is very oblivious and not as sure of himself. I think given some time, and a little self realization, Wheatley could end up becoming far more like Cave in a position of power, and that’s scary, since the only thing that was truly able to stop Cave was death, and Wheatley… well… that’s not so much a problem for him
oh wow someone caught on to that detail! Yes,(in my AU) Wheatley is indeed wearing Cave Johnson’s iconic outfit. It’s ambiguous whether or not he knows who Cave Johnson was, all we know is that Wheatley changed clothes because we wanted to distance himself from lowly employee to big bad Boss. He was forced to wear the same ugly jumpsuit for decades upon decades, so naturally as soon as he took over Aperture, he went looking for something snazzy. I don’t know where he found the outfit, but he finds a lot of Cave’s old belongings that he ends up abusing or breaking. Much to GLaDOS’s rage.
I wanted Wheatley to wear Cave’s outfit during the Wheatley Laboratories chapters because Cave and Wheatley mirror each other, just like how Chell and GLaDOS mirror each other. Both have the makings of super villains, but both are highly sympathetic characters, making you understand their relationships with their counterparts, ya know? Plus I think it’s cute when Wheatley tries to look professional and intimidating, but he’ll always look like a dork.
