Waiting

Sayram was waiting for Isabel.

He waited for Isabel before, waited for her in the bus stop when tey were in elementary school, waited for her sitting in his car when they were in high school and he offered her a ride. He waited for her in their first date when she was late, and Isabel was so embarrased, she couldn’t say a thing to him, only  “sorry” in the first couple of minutes.

He waited for her, on his knees, and open the ringbox in his hand, waited for her answer.

Now, he was waiting for her in the church, standing in the focus of attention, with Flagon beside him as his best man. He searched the crowd, hert pounding nervously, glimpsing the smile of his parents, siblings and friends; and on the other side, Farlan, with the rest of Isabel’s friends.

Sayram waited for Isabel and Levi, who were the one giving her away, and for Sayram’s little sister, acting as a bridesmaid.

He waited with the crowd for just one person to appear.

Then, a moment later, she was there, with Levi by her side, in a beatiful, long-sleeved white dress, the nice waves of the fine white textil accentuating her tiny figure, her fiery red locks pulled into an elegant bun.

She looked like a lady, and Sayram’s heartbeat sped up as it usually did, seeing her.

The music started, and Levi, Isabel and Sayram’s little sister came closer, the crowd turned towards them, smiling.

Levi put the couple’s hands together, and even though the joy Sayram felt, he still noticed tears in the short man’s eyes, which surprised him pleasantly.

Levi got back and took his place on Farlan’s side, while Flagon let Sayram go with a gentle pat on his shoulder.

The black-haired man and the redhead woman’s eyes met finally, and they smiled at each other comfortably, how ever this simle held a special meaning.

Their hands and lives were about to be bound together, and they couldn’t be happier. They thought to themselves:

“You, my love, were well worth the waiting”.

Catch your breath, sunshines

Isabel ran through the halls trying to get away from the other recruits stupid comments. She was sick and tired of it.

Sayram was walking alone when he heard some fast steps approaching and saw a glimpse of red hair moving through the other hall. He, somehow, knew instantly who it was.

He knew exactly from the fast steps that she wasn’t happily running. Therefore, she was probably on her way to the third floor’s windows to sit. He ran after her without hesitation. If he was fast enough, he would get there from the other side corridor and through the stairs. He caught his breath when he reached the top, and could hear Isabel’s steps coming near. She ran through and almost crashed against him. Sayram realized how stupid he was; he followed without knowing what to say or do. He stared in her eyes, surprised that she didn’t look away. His face and even his ears were burning, her eyes locked on his. She had something talking through them, something full of hope, but in the same time, mixed with fear. Her cheeks were also bright red. She opened her mouth to catch her breath, and hopefully said something. Was she happy that he was there?

Probably, but no words were leaving her breathless mouth.

Sayram in the Choice With No Regrets Visual Novel

So, I’ve read the ACWNR Visual Novel and I came across this interesting part (starting with Isabel and Farlan dialogue):

“

"Hey, who’s scared!?”

“Just leave it to me, Farlan. I’ll kick those titans’ asses, one by one.”

“Listen here, you…”

Farlan made a move to lecture Isabel for her easygoing lack of concern, but—

You bastards, stop screwing around! How unbelievable!“

Someone behind them suddenly yelled angrily in their direction.

"You underground thugs are getting too carried away! The titans, they aren’t the easy prey you think they are!!”

The voice belonged to a soldier riding behind Farlan. It seemed that he’d somehow overheard their chatter and gotten riled up.

“How many soldiers do you think had gotten killed by the titans until now!? Even in the previous expedition, so many of our seniors were…”

“Hmph, don’t clump us together with idiots who’d get eaten by those dim-witted titans.”

“W-What did you say, you…!!”

The soldier, enraged by Isabel’s words, moved to grab the blade handle holstered on his side.

“Tch!”

Levi immediately rode between Isabel and the soldier, hand reaching for his own blade, and moved to stop his opponent’s attack.

“Stop it, Sayram!”

Flagon, who had noticed the brewing quarrel, stepped in and held the soldier back.

“But, Squad Leader…!!”

“Calm down, Sayram. Once they actually fight some real titans, they won’t be able to talk like that anymore.”

Flagon glanced at Levi as he spoke, with contempt and pity mixed in his gaze.

Even then, Levi only stared back at Flagon expressionlessly, with no particular hint of anger on his face.

As Farlan looked at the situation at hand, he thought about how, just this one time, it was the soldiers who were right.

No matter how strong Levi is, he’s ultimately just a human. The titans are monsters—no, they’re beings closer to natural disasters like storms and floods. Isn’t Levi taking the titans too lightly…?

It did not take that long for Farlan to get an answer to his doubts.

Right then, the troops had the expedition’s first encounter with the titans.

“

This is a very important part, escpecially which I bolded out. There’s lot to know about Sayram’s character – he only appears here in the visuel novel actually. So these are only guesses, but I’ll try my best.

1. The thug trio or at least Levi appears to not know who Sayram is, as before his name is mentioned, Levi mentions him as simply „the soldier”.

This means Levi do not know him or didn’t really paid him attention. Maybe the trio were only put together with him for the mission, but it’s not what we see in the manga, where Sayram is there almost in every scene where Flagon appears. So they must know him.

Maybe Levi didn’t really paid him attention, because he focuses on Erwin, but the thing that he only now notices Sayram, when he speaks out suggests that he was more or less unnoticeable – as for Levi. He was obedient, quiet, so, he didnt speak to them, therefore Levi didn’t „notice” him.

2. What makes now Sayram angry enough to grab his blades in order to attack Isabel – which is a real threat, considering Levi was on him in a second. What makes this quiet, composed boy lose his temper this badly?

In fact, what makes him even speak to them? They haven’t spoken to each other before, as it seems. What crossed the line so Sayram just HAD TO speak his mind?

It can’t be his temper – it must be something that hurt him, which Flagon seems to understand, seems to know about him.

"How many soldiers do you think had gotten killed by the titans until now!? Even in the previous expedition, so many of our seniors were…”

The loss of a comrade – several comrades maybe? Yes. It can be sad and tormenting and hurtful to hear something like this from a criminal who haven’t even seen a titan close up.

“Hmph, don’t clump us together with idiots who’d get eaten by those dim-witted titans.”

Imagine hearing this after losing several people – maybe your closest friends or people you looked up so much – superiors. And a short time after that, someone who haven’t even been outside the walls before, who is known to have made hideous crimes which was against the society you are protecting… call those friends and comrades „idiots who’d get eaten”.

I would lose my temper too.

So Sayram’s not rude, more like hurt and damaged. He still hasn’t gotten over the lost of his comrades, so it’s perfectly understandable from him to react to Isabel’s words this way. His actions may not be likeable, but he is right. Even Farlan thinks that the soldiers are probably right this time.

I KNOW ANON, I KNOW BUT I’M AFRAID THERE WILL BE NO SAYRAM AT ALL I’M NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT SAYBEL!!! I’M TALKING ABOUT THAT THERE’S A POSSIBILITY THEY’RE NOT PUTTING SAYRAM IN AT ALL! BUT IF THEY PUT HIM IN I’LL BE SO HAPPY! AND IF THEY HAVE SCENES WITH ISABEL I’LL BE FLOATING WITH HAPPINESS!

Question: is sayram a real character or did someone make it up?? (i'm slow :P)
Answer:

Oh, he’s absolutely REAL! You’re not slow, anon, I only “noticed” him when I was reading the manga a second time. ^^ I don’t think many people know about him, sadly (he is gorgeous!)

We first meet him when he’s rude to Isabel in chapter 4 of the manga “A Choice with no regrets / The birth of Levi” (Levi’s backstory), illustrated by Hikaru Suruga and written by Gan Sunaaku (info from the Snk wiki). Ok, he’s rude, but he warns Isabel, Farlan and Levi not to take the titans lightly. So, he’s a good guy, he worries about them. Also he’s just conflicted because he doesn’t want to admit that he likes Isabel, and that’s why he tries to mask it with rudeness.

He’s in the team of Flagon (squad leader, I guess?), with Levi, Farlan and Isabel.

We know almost nothing about him (not even his last name), so I made up a backstory of him, but it can differ from canon of course:

Question: I was thinking, what if a Saybel week was held sometime in the future?
Answer:

Oh! What a great idea, anon! ^^ It could promote this lovely ship! Sadly, we shippers are too few, as this is practically an unknown ship. I must tell you I have no idea how to announce, organize, etc. a ship week, so if you have ideas and such just contact me I’m glad to help. I WOULD TOTALLY SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATE IN SAYBEL WEEK!

But for now, the most important thing is to reblog the beautiful artwork of the artists! There are so few notes on them, which makes me think that we should wait a little bit with Saybel week. I don’t know, maybe we shouldn’t wait, I don’t know how’s better. o.o

I promised I’ll write fanfiction for Saybel but I just don’t have time and I’m soooo very late with other fanfictions too (and other projects) :( I have ideas about the Sayram x Isabel fanfiction, a ton!
