Meanwhile, EVANGELION:3.333 will be coming out on Japanese Blu-Ray later the same month, marking the film’s definitive version’s first release outside of its cinematic debut in January.
do you know if “summer children” is officially licensed or not? i read it translated online and it has the gainax name on it, but i still dont know if it is
this took me down suuuch a rabbit hole lol but short answer yes it is technically ‘officially licensed’
you can see the gainax logo/project eva trademark in the bottom left obvi and the whole thing does have a legitimate ISBN (4897992206 if you were curious lol). As far as I can tell, RAPPORT comics (which went bankrupt a while ago ig? either way it doesnt exist anymore) published a few anthologies that were basically just collected nge doujins in the 90s under the project eva name and this one happened to be kawoshin themed. heres two other ones (which I know absolutely nothing about beyond the covers):
Basically it’s in the same vein as the raising project/campus apocalypse/angelic days etc in terms of being canon/licensed. Its only a little more unconventional in that its basically a bunch of fan comics (200 fucking pages worth jfc) put together and nebulously legitimized by having 'Gainax’ slapped on top– and also yea bc its 200 pages of gay fanfic but w/e. Honestly, in concept, I do think it’s kind of neat to give some kind of official platform to fan artists like that– especially given the permissibility of alternate universes within nge canon. though i suppose that I could also eassiillyyy see that becoming, as they say, problematic so perhaps best to not.
anyways thanks for the question!! it got me reading a lot of interesting stuff about 90s evangelion manga and doujin publishing in general lol. i’ll rb this with a link to read summer children for people who are interested!
(ps you can apparently still buy copies of summer children online, albeit completely untranslated. I came across a few while poking around and tbh for an OOP evangelion manga they were pretty cheap, so if thats something any of you want i’d say def look into it )

19 and 20 for the Evangelion asks?
19 - Which death did you cry the most for? and
20 - Which death did you cry the least for?
I can’t speak to the deaths in 3+1 yet and perhaps I’ll have a different answer in a couple of months time, but this is honestly a really good question…
I love all of the characters and it changes depending on what my feelings are at the moment, but Asuka’s (arguable) in EOE is probably the one that continues to hit me the hardest to this day.
On the other hand, Kaworu’s death in 3.0 kind of just doesn’t achieve any emotional resonance for me JHGFH it’s not like I have any characters for whose death I cheered or anything, it’s just this one does literally nothing for me to be honest,
27 for the Eva asks
Oh god this was a couple of days ago HGFH
27 - What do you think LCL smells like?
If it smells like anything much, it has to smell like blood, right? Not the most creative answer, but you know
Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time is a movie about love in all its forms. From the love of family, friends, and neighbors, to the compassion we feel for people we have never met. The movie reminds us that love is something we continuously gain, lose, and choose, again and again. Which love is greatest? In my opinion, the answer to that question is left up to interpretation. In this essay, I will give my own personal interpretation on certain character interactions and what I believe we are meant to take away from their Rebuild portrayals.
The character I will start with is one I’ve noticed the most outrage over from people who haven’t seen the movie and read out-of-context spoilers: Kaworu Nagisa.
what evangelion manga from the pics from your last post?
It’s Evangelion:3.0(-120min), it’s featured in the new Eva Extra Ex booklet you can get if you see 3+1 in theatres at the moment.
You can read it in Japanese here, there’s an English version online somewhere too, but I don’t have it on hand. It’s presumably canonical given that Anno oversaw it.
Don't watch it.
Hahaha it’s alright, I skimmed the trailer and saw pictures on Twitter and I already know what it shows. I’m just trying to avoid seeing every frame and every quote from it at this point 😑
